Do you have any employment barriers? If not the first thing I’d do is look for full time hours, whatever job you get. Look for shop/trades helper positions where they train people up then do your best to make an impression. 40 is still young enough to learn a trade and be working while you continue to upgrade. Take advantage of any adult employment skills programs that might cover tuition and offer work placement. If nothing else, for now stuff like warehousing pays better at least and is typically full time.
EDIT: Real talk though, I think the biggest thing is being honest with yourself about why you’re underemployed now and what you need to do to get motivated to change. Good luck 🙏
My first job as an adult I did because I was desperate for work and it was a seasonal position with a local tax company helping start returns. They trained me with no experience and I was making about 16.00 an hour (8 years ago). They hired me after the season to keep working with them for 20.00 an hour and I had a cushy office job. Continued to work up and now I make a great salary. Moral of the story don’t be afraid to try a seasonal position - if you can make a good impression there’s a chance they keep you if not you got experience. Focus on details, ask questions and work hard

I think its less social media and more them having no idea what life is like for a normal person. They’ve never had real jobs and are surrounded by yes men at work and in their personal lives. They live in a different world and many of them have no clue.
Yeah, even before they made millions they know they will eventually become millionaires in a few years. Compare that to the average kid growing up who knows they won’t be millionaires, and best they will likely achieve is going to a university and getting a job but knowing how unstable and bleak the opportunities can be based on how their parents are doing.
Their life is more a fantasy, so they never really face the reality of I may have to a work a 9-5 like my parents and this may be the best it’ll ever get and having to try to figure out which of the 9-5 jobs they might like and which will be less susceptible to becoming obsolete by the time they graduate.

You can tell how detached these people have become from the real world. They all have personal chefs, VIPs rooms in every restaurant and club, fly private everywhere, security escorts everywhere.
They do not interact with normal people almost ever.
