Have people already forgot the Heat were a superteam? He was a villain because he joined another top 5 player in Wade and top 20 in Bosh. A lot of the hate came from that. Then throw in the “not one, not two, not three, not four.” It was very easy to root against, especially for the poor souls of Cleveland.

Sure if you just ignore all the other stuff. It came out that during the 2008 Olympics him and Wade had been using the Olympics to recruit other players to team up when they were free agents in 2010. Then later it was revealed that Lebron, Melo, and Wade had discussions as early as 2006 regarding what kind of extensions they were going to take with their teams because Lebron wanted to coordinate them all being free agents at the same time to team up together somewhere. Melo was hesitant because he wanted his money now not later, and Wade didn’t care because he was happy in Miami (obviously, they had just gotten Shaq). Justified or not, most people were pretty mad to find out that Lebron had been 1 foot out the door for years, especially coming off a Celtics series where he was being accused of quitting on the team.

Then he really embraced his villain role by promising 8 championships, mocked Dirk for being sick in the finals, choked the finals in one of the worst performances by any all time great ever, and then insulted the fans of the sport by saying they have miserable lives just because he formed a super team and failed to win a championship again

The Celtics were a completely irrelevant franchise from 1992 when Bird retired to 2008 when they traded for Garnett and Allen. And they were only able to trade for Garnett because the Timberwolves ownership had finally decided they wanted to move on from him - Garnett wanted to be a Timberwolf for life.
