Feel like this would’ve been foreseen by QPs agent. They could’ve negotiated with the Warriors FO if he wanted to stay, maybe the Warriors told him they wouldn’t give the deal without the bonuses regardless and to go get that coin - who knows
I mean, this would be a thing that Memphis would do to make sure they get him but Post’s agent would have no reason not to agree if this got him more money in year 1.
Most players would rather stay than leave places but to stay in Golden State he would have had to wait for LeBron/Draymond to resolve and also wouldn’t have gotten the $9m or whatever they were offering him. Memphis just wants to finish the deal and the poison pill makes sure they get a “we will not match” sooner so they’re certain to get him.
Yeah of course, just saying the unlikely incentives probably didn’t play a role in GSW not matching, well, unless Post actively wanted to leave

We’ve gotten some good value with our backup centers lately. Jay Huff and Jock Landale were solid, I don’t think Post is some like hidden superstar but he’ll help us.
I wish NBA offer sheets had draft compensation to go with trying to sign RFAs, but I guess that would mean there would need to be more rounds, or everyone would just give up a bunch of firsts each time they chase an RFA Lmaoo

I like the NFL method of giving teams draft picks for losing free agents. NBA could do something similar like at the end of the 1st and 2nd rounds depending on size of contract.
Acquiring RFAs is already very hard. You have to renounce your free agents, reserve cap space and wait as the best UFAs pick other teams.

makes sense for a team trying to stay out of the second apron. post is a fun player but paying him $8-10m when you’ve already got curry/draymond/wiggins on max money and no real path to contention is hard to justify. warriors are basically in a soft reset right now.
