The new CBA wasn’t an immediate reaction to the KD-Warriors, but they were definitely one of the biggest, if not the biggest influence behind it.

They showed that the luxury tax alone wasn’t enough, as multiple owners were willing to pay if they’re desperate enough. As you said, many others were in the tax, and it was followed. They just weren’t succesful (like the Nets, lol KD again)

The KD-Warriors weren’t the only reason for the second apron, but being as succssful as they were, they became the clearest example of why the league felt it needed stricter rules around roster construction.

Even KD says this. LeBron made it okay to join your direct rivals first. It set a precedent. The best young player in the NBA joins his direct competition from two teams.

The ready started mortgaging their future since they knew they weren’t gonna beat 3 MVP level players. Felt like only Indiana and raptors were the only ones trying.

That’s how he only played against one all NBA first team player during the 8 year run which was derrick rose.

KD just took the easiest road. He added to the chain of events. But he wasn’t the first domino. Hell, we can kinda go back to those Celtics but that was more top down and players reaching a point where they were about to past their prime. It’s kinda different than what lbj and KD did

The Heat and Cavs had never even crossed path before in the playoffs in NBA history. They were not direct rivals, at least not in the way the GSW and Thunder were. And also, the Cavs finished above the Heat every single season after 2006, so it’s not like he hopped onto a more successful team the way KD did.

The situation would be more comparable if Lebron had joined Celtics or Spurs instead.

What’s crazy to me is that KD’s contract was worth only 54 mil. I’m sure he took a pay cut and what not, but a player of KD’s caliber at the time he signed with the Warriors could easily make like 150 mil on a 2-year contract today.
