[Highlight] Shai can barely contain his excitement after he gets a backcourt steal and poster dunk vs. Jamaica
Am glad shai gives a fuck about international play
Dude was wearing a Canadian flag to the Thunder parade. He absolutely gives a shit
Shai loves basketball
If Edey can get healthy this Canada team might destroy everyone in the 28 Olympics. A core of Sga+Edey will be insane on both ends.
Team Canada would be stacked if everyone committed. Just lacking bigs other than edey
Tristan Thompson is waiting on a call
I’ll give Tristan this: he was always loyal to Canada basketball. When Canadian NBA players were wishy washy about playing for us, he always did. Cory Joseph too.
Ton of respect for TT. He put everything he had into the Cavs Championship run yet still reported to Team Canada camp like 2 weeks later. He would’ve been totally justified taking some rest but kept his commitment to Team Canada
SGA n Eddy would cook, this Canada team actually has some depth too
lol no, USA Still clears
Shai and Dillon cooked yall last time so wouldnt say they clear, you wont have bron, steph, and KD to save the day anymore
Who is stopping Edey on USA.
Anyone who can bring him out the paint, he’s slow asf
Canada has 5 put spacing like that? Because drop bigs are really impactful in FIBA due to no 3 seconds and the goaltending rules
I meant on the offensive end.
The fuck you mean? Edey has exactly one accolade -rookie first team- in his career. I imagine the all nba and all stars will stop Edey. Just like they have in the Nba because he’s not some force to be reckoned with.
bro’s acting as if Edey is some anime Wemby-like god lmfao. Relax
Him and Braden Smith weren’t enough to overcome Uconn. Now he’s good enough to beat all of America?
Edeys own body is the #1 Edey stopper in the league. If he was healthy all the time, he’d be a horrific matchup nightmare for most of the league’s teams. He’s very, VERY good. Offensively skilled, great shot blocker, timing and touch, and one of the premier rebounders in the league.
This is so absurdly overstated. Nobody was worried about the Grizzlies last year, before or after Edey was hurt. He’s a good basketball player, he’s not a league defining one.
One too many “very”s there. He’s good, but limited offensively at this point.
Bruh if Zach edey is the first option, we’ll be fine lol
Ignoring the SGA on the team.
Clingan probably.
I know it has been a long time since college but Edey absolutely destroyed Clingan when they played.
Snack for Edey
Since they’re both NBA players it probably makes more sense to look at when they’ve played each other in the NBA, don’t you think? Clingan locked his ass up in a blowout win the last time they played. Edey had 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 fouls.
Clingan is 叉燒包 for Edey
Jarrett Allen maybe? KAT would cook offensively at least. Paired with Bam could work really well
KAT doesn’t play for team USA, as a teenager he played for the Dominican Republic under Calipari, so now KAT is locked into that squad.
Ah right. USA centers are definitely not as deep. If only Embiid or AD weren’t too injured.
You argue as if he’s posting Shaq numbers on the NBA. USA will still be fielded by NBA players so I’m not sure what your angle is
His angle is that he’s excited about Canada basketball being good but y’all have to make every single thing about yourselves
He literally said “who’s stopping Edey?”
As if Edey is someone everyone needs to game plan for.
Come on.
Comment before said USA still clears I was referring to that
Are they making at about themselves when the comment literally talks about destroying everyone? Replying with a team they would not destroy seems fairly on topic
Who’s stopping anyone on team USA? Edey is a fine player but why are you acting like he’s Shaq?
Canada got the Dorture Chamber and Dylan Brooks. Theyve got guys to guard the perimeter.
The USA’s counterpart to those two are Ant and Jayson Tatum. It’s still not a favorite for Canada. The US’s bench will all be all-stars
USA’s 3rd string guards will be Castle and Harper
Whomever they recruit next to play Center for them.
Lol Edey at this point is not someone you have to be worried about stopping. And to answer your question: Clingan, Duren, Allen, etc.
Chet, Bam, Clingan, Durren, Mitch, any other center that gets significant minutes in the NBA
Is that Nembhard slander I see?
It’s nice to see honestly. Recently watched the documentary on the last Olympics, and I’m paraphrasing but he was basically like “I didn’t take this seriously” after the loss. I’m trying to convince my friend that Canada is the team to beat in 2028, because they’ve got a bit of a squad. Them or Wemby developing a proper offensive game and the US could be in a dog fight for bronze.
Canada is the team to beat in 2028
I’m a huge homer, but there’s no way the US isn’t still the favourite.
Yeah… also a homer, but we’re not quite there yet. We’re close, but we don’t have the depth, especially in the frontcourt; a few injuries or guys needing to sit out because of contract situations really hurts us, whereas the US has such a huge talent pool to pull from. But, we’ve got so much talent coming up. Basketball has been the most played youth team sport in Canada since 2010.
PSA: don’t continue reading if you don’t want passionate Canadian basketball content about Canada Basketball’s future stars, which should probably be its own post or article. But here we are.
Canada has some absolutely jaw-dropping young talent coming up – just last month we defeated Team USA to win the gold at the FIBA AmeriCup U18’s for the first time ever.

Wait more Canadian youth play basketball than hockey?
I totally get the financial aspect of it where signing up your kid for basketball is probably way more affordable than hockey but that still sounds shocking to me as someone from the states but knows how passionate Canadians are about hockey
Yeah, it’s kinda a fascinating mix of reasons for it…
For one, Canada’s population is only increasing due to immigration, and when families get here and they’ve just spent money to move to Canada, most don’t then want to spend a *bundle* more to put their kids in a somewhat violent sport and sit their asses in a cold arena. If I’m remembering correctly, since 2010, minor hockey in Canada has seen a decrease in participants by the hundreds of thousands (EDIT: I was right! Since 2010, youth hockey in Canada has seen a 33% decrease in participants.). Secondly, have such a close proximity to the States and are heavily influenced by that, plus we have an NBA team that just won a championship. The whole country was behind the Raptors. Then you’ve got Vince Carter’s influence and two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash… I think the list could go on and on. I’d also say the accessibility of just being able to pick-up a ball and go play at a local park or gym gives it another advantage over hockey
Yes, Canada’s still fanatical about hockey, but we’re seeing an *explosion* in terms of participation and success in basketball, which will only lead to more and more popularity for it. Hockey’s snowballing one way and basketball another.
Woah that was a lot of insight. Thanks and I appreciate it.
Hope that the Kawhi deal works out for you guys (again)
Hahaha me too!
Toronto is a big basketball Mecca, and most of the youth there can’t afford hockey. I think we’re gonna see a lot more Canadian basketball stars coming out of the bigger cities pretty soon. Hockey is still big here but it’s very cost prohibitive and it has way more competition than previously.
I feel bad for those small guards
I wonder how it felt being named Hamilton growing up in Oakville
Canada is unfortunately missing a big, on the other hand France doesn’t really have world class guards. Should they just merge?
Quebec 2 Electric Boogaloo
made me lol a bit too hard
Edey is that big, once he’s healthy again
He also really reps his hometown. He’s always very direct about saying he’s not from Toronto.
Playing in his hometown tn too
I remember last season, he was injured for like weeks and came back just in time to play the Nuggets, which was seen as their biggest competitor at the time. Shai just loves the competition.
He looks so happy playing for team Canada and he gets to play in his hometown of Hamilton
Crazy he cares more about international than what he actually gets paid mostly for.
Tbf pride comes above all most times.
It’s also in his hometown. This game was within driving distance of where he and NAW grew up.
Which he lacks in the nba…
ig a 2x MVP and champion lacks passion for the nba😭
This shit is why you cant take anyone serious online bro lmao
Its different wining gold for a city you never heard of growing up than winning it for your country and your people
Then don’t take the paycheck if you end up playing harder when it isn’t your main job. Especially when you’re making millions. Stop making lame ass excuses for millionaires
Dude this is about the dumbest take I’ve seen in a long time. The dude is the poster child for consistency and hard work. That doesn’t happen if you don’t play hard or give a shit.
Pretty sure everyone in OKC is more than happy with Shai’s paycheck so idk why you’re so pressed about it
Yes, the guy who is setting leaguewide efficiency records in the regular season and rarely takes games off doesn’t care about his job. Great take lmao
He’s underpaid for what his production is, as every top supermax player is. Didn’t realize its this easy to get a b2b mvp
Cornball is basing “passion” on the fact that SGA smiled like he’s never smiled on OKC. These people aren’t worth responding to.
This might be the worst take I’ve ever seen what the fuck lol
How is that crazy? Win or lose, you get paid at the end of the day because you’re the MVP. The pay is nothing in international games, so you’re there solely because you want to compete for glory.
Maybe because fans pay for tickets to said games and when he plays with have as much passion that’s just spitting in fans faces but sure keep stroking millionaires 😅
I’m doing the opposite of stroking millionaires smart ass. If they all quit the NBA and only played in the Olympics and FIBA, I would be cheering because of how shit the NBA product is for fans. But maybe you are under the impression that fans go to these games for free?
no.5 on Team Jamaica is 18 years old and hit a couple jumpers and a layup after checking in.
then SGA stripped him, postered his teammate, then hit a 3 over him in succession. hit another 3 over him a little later. and then Canada started picking on him and forcing him to turn it over
trial by fire
the best guard in the world right now is the last thing you want to face in an international game as a teenager 😭
Simultaneously, it must feel awesome getting to play someone at that level. I’m sure these guys weren’t expecting Canada to send the squad they did, especially when Torrey Craig might be the most notable player the US sent this summer.
“wowww, I’m so happy and excited to represent my country! wait, is that the SGA guarding me? this is awesome! I’m getting guarded by the literal mvp, I’m so honored and happ-”
gets the ball stolen and watches his teammate get destroyed
lot of players for canada missing but shai wins these games by himself
New haircut got him moving different
Once he go bald it’s over for the league
Worked for MJ and Kobe
Nah he’s just happy to Play for something he cares for
Can’t wait for us to trade 17 1sts and Manitoba for this guy in ‘31
I’m not mad at it lol. I wish he was this emotive in the league. Would change his whole perception
He does… people just watch TikTok highlights though and don’t show this part. He’s always smiling on the court and laughing, celebrating with his teammates.
Yeah I get you, the fact he is boring on court and is always on the line is just such a bad rep combo , his game should be fun but man he doesn’t make it easy
he is fun to watch when he is scoring not at the line, he has a great midrange game.
Yep, he’s great when he’s not at the line , just he’s there so much and is just such a non personality so it’s easy to just be negative when he doesn’t try to be charismatic
Hometown vibes
New haircut on Dillon Brooks got him cheering on SGA too.
Got an extra +2 speed
Be careful with that landing Shai! hate it when they land on one leg like that I just get so many flashbacks to knee injuries
Falling to the ground all the time is actually a very good way to prevent knee and ankle twisting.
The Joel Embiid Center for Kids with Bad Knees and Wanna Learn to Fall Down Good
r/brandnewsentence
That’s true if you’re airborne. If you crumple while already on your feet, it increases the chance of injury
He clearly trains on falling properly and moving his body. He hardly ever is injured. All the weird training stuff people see clips of and chock up to foul baiting is actually just injury prevention methods and staying flexible as you age
He clearly trains on falling properly
y’all just going to let this slide r/nba?
fuck i hope so, they didnt make a good joke when it was hot so they definitely wont now
This is why playing for your country is great.
Some of these guys have been playing together since they were kids. Repping your country is special and the hoops just seem purer. There’s no contract involved, it’s just vibes.
He look happy ass hell man 😂
He loves playing for canada
Hey, no pro-Shai posts on Reddit!
Had to rub my eyes to make sure I was seeing it right
He splashed a 3 about 10 seconds later.
Two of them
Leonard Miller is such a good hypeman
is that #11? dude was literally bouncing on it🤣🤣☠️
I am lowk scared what type of season he is gonna put up next year. He will be playing his hardest he ever has trying to win his third mvp
Next year’s MVP race is going to be disgusting. There are like six guys who can make a legitimate case, and it might come down to injuries.
The discussions in March-April is gonna be toxic as fuck lol
Brunson, SGA, Giannis, Jokic, Ant, Wemby?
I didn’t include doncic cause lakers will be a play-in team this year imo.
And Cade led the pistons to 60 and it wasn’t anywhere near enough for MVP so I don’t think he can get it unless he improves
SGA, Wemby, Giannis, Jokic, Luka, and Brunson.
Wolves are the play in team that’s going to bounce a one or two seed.
If Tatum is healthy he could possibly be a contender
Hmm idk depends on how they utilize their cap space since discarding Randle who was basically a net negative for them on that contract. (I’ve not really followed them after that and them getting lamelo)
A fiba championship will do things for his reputation that could never been achieved with an NBA championship.
If Canada wins Olympic gold in men’s basketball I will write SGA on my ballot for the next federal election
Let’s just make him King so he can be my head of state as well.
……no bro
There’s much more competition in the FIBA World Cup than in the Olympics, although the Olympics is more prestigious.
No but an Olympic medal would
Idc about the narratives y’all can’t make me hate this man
That was filthy
This guy’s awesome
Careful there Shai. Almost gave me heart attack, don’t want to these players hurting themselves on international play lol
Watching this live WAS A FUCKING VIBE! for $50 tickets too
He looks way happier this summer playing for team Canada
He laughs and has fun like this all the time it just doesn’t get clipped and upvoted
Yeah thats fair. He looks so serious when I see him but that makes sense, its probably just not showcased as much
Love SGA’s personality
Very different from the CANJAM games I’m used to
Thats the broadest smile Ive ever seen on him lol.
He’s really smooth and great to watch, hope he continues this way of play in the coming NBA season.
Can’t wait for the rematch
He plays like this all the time, y’all gotta stop watching mr buck buck foul compilations
His game 7 WCF against spurs is a real masterclass. He’s really on a level of unstoppable on his moves. Too bad he didn’t get much of a support that time.
Too bad he didn’t get much of a support that time.
No shame in losing to an elite spurs team, plus injuries can hit any team was just unfortunate that it came at a key moment for us.
Man he would be so much more popular if he went up with these dunk attempts instead of the basic two hand rim grazer he always does
Gotta stay healthy. Look at what happened to Westbrook and his hands
[removed]
Not sure which part you’re talking about, the strip you can clearly see he gets all ball, and the defender on his layup clearly makes all contact with the backboard
wn shai go fr ball he on crt
This dude CAN JAM
See Shai it’s nice to act like you give a shit sometimes
Shai on demon time since the haircut
Where do I watch this
Best player in the world!!
Ngl I thought this was a sarcastic post when I read the title haha.
But glad he’s having fun playing for his country and actually gives a shit
What happened to all the nba players who were supposed to play for Jamaica??
Oh thank god, an international sport we don’t suck complete ass at
Capn SHAI!! 🫡
Guards are too small ..
He is so fun to watch when he isn’t looking for a call!
I Hope he understands that playing this way is much more fun
How come no flop?
This is exactly why people hate him. He can play like this but chooses to play like a bitch. It’s just disappointing honestly
To be fair I think it’s harder to do this in the NBA than it is to do it to an 18 year old non-NBA player in a FIBA qualifier
It’s also much easier to do when you’re not being double/triple teamed up and down the court and being fouled on every possession
Team Canada has significantly better offensive supporting cast than OKC. Like Nembhard + NAW + Brooks is way better offensively than the lineups the Thunder roll out.
Dunno why you’re being downvoted cuz you’re definitely right
Saw him to it to Booker in the playoffs
brunson bitches to the ref every game of the playoffs and jumps into defenders at the 3 point line to get 3 free throws. He did it 2 different times in the closeout game of the finals. Do you cry about that too?
Gotta blame the refs. If they stopped calling BS fouls for SGA, he’s gonna play differently.
