[Jeff Teague] I talked to my boy yesterday, my boy JT (Jayson Tatum) motivated. It ain’t no slight because he was legit like, “Damn can’t believe that sh*t went down.” He was just like, damn that’s weird. I’m like, the pressure’s on now killa
Get ready for Tatum to reveal his new nickname for this new chapter of his career, the Dark Anaconda.
Shiny ekans
Like at least him be an arbork. He is better than a basic.
Arbork
Arboks evolve form
Shame on me.
Shame me twice, can’t be shamed again!
Ekans backwards is … KD
La Serpiente de negro
genuinely, this would go hard
Using a nickname that was crafted for his idol would be a fitting tribute to Kobe.
At home late that night, Humphrey searched the internet for more information about “the most badass black snake there is.” The search didn’t take long. The top result: black mamba. The snake was described as lightning fast, agile and feared – the same qualities of the star NBA guard for whom they were designing the shoe. Humphrey, who had worked at Nike since 1994, quickly prepared a presentation that featured the snake as the centerpiece of a new sneaker campaign. Alongside photos of the snake were videos of the NBA star attacking the basket. Soon after, Humphrey showed the presentation to his colleagues. The synergy between the material, the black mamba and the NBA star felt natural, alluring. “Everybody was in on it,” he told ESPN. From there, it was time to create a global campaign featuring the black mamba, and present it to the player who would ultimately represent it. That player was Michael Jordan.

Kobe is such a phenomenal PR job by the Lakers. The more I learn about him the lamer he gets, and they still managed to hide all that dust. JT just like him fr, just lives in an era that is harder for a player to hide these things.
Idk say what you want about Tatum but at least he doesn’t have any sexual assault allegations.
No most people thought he was pretty curated.
I’m probably biased
Nah his dust wasn’t hidden at all. Fans were just crazy about him for whatever reason, despite his clear and public issues.
Outside of pushing away Hall of famer, Shaq, His attitude kept some big free agents away from the team.
He had the Colorado incident
He demanded a trade to Chicago that was eventually scrapped. He wasn’t anything near an angel. People just like nostalgia, I guess and he fits into that.
Edit: added a clause to the first paragraph
“Fans were just crazy about him for some reason”
Yes, as in fans were crazy about him DESPITE his clear and public baggage
How is it puzzling though? There are more famous athletes with more serious allegations or issues.
Like who?
Remember, his scandals didn’t come at a time when athlete scandals were normal. Infamous athletes were careful to keep their names scandal free, because there were other athletes on the rise who fell from stardom for less.
Michael Jordan was very particular to keep his dirt out of the news for this reason. Contemporaries like Peyton Manning and Derek Jeter ensured that their names were far away from scandal because scandals would derail stardom during this period.
Despite having public controversies in an era where scandal wasn’t tolerated, fans stuck by Kobe. Hell, he even did lose some endorsements and star power after some of his scandals, but they eventually came back.
Nowadays it seems like many Kobe fans act as if he didn’t have the massive off-court issues that he did.
Let’s take it current: given his scandals and the way he tried teammates, you could argue that the vitriol that KD gets would be more appropriate for all of the issues that Kobe had.
Ronaldo
Funny way to say rape
Not a fan of what he did by any means. Some sites ban the word 🤷🏿♂️ clearly not this one
Is because you’re grown so allat corny shit looks ridiculous.
How is JT like him? wtf?
Michael Jordan? Did the article make a mistake? lol
No, they’re saying that the marketing campaign based around the Black Mamba was originally created for Jordan.
Are you dumb? lol
Somber Viper.
The Black Boa
The Green Garter

The Green Mamba is right there…
Lightskin Anaconda
Obscure reptile.
Light skinned mamba.
Beige Garter
Nah, It’s the grey cobra
That’s not a nickname advertisers are gonna want to get behind… Or in front of…
JT has never once done anything that would indicate he pushes the front office to make roster moves, let alone trade JB, and mfs in this thread are acting like he’s Lebron lmao
There hasn’t been enough soap opera drama now that the Giannis saga is settled. This sub be fabricating whatever bullshit to be entertained
LeBron gonna start a summer tournament of 4v4 games including only the teams on his shortlist and the winner gets him on a vet minimum
Honestly would be so interesting to see how players respond mentally. With nothing on the line except playing with LeBron, Some guys would play their ass off and some would just phone it in.
Then we’d get more soap opera drama of people breaking down body language and shit
Thats the thing JT is too boring and quiet for most nba fans who love the drama so they gotta fill the gaps or drag him for it
Yeah, exactly.
Like sure, JT probably could have imposed his will and pressured the front office to do things that they didn’t want to do.
But like, why the hell should he do that?
Idk what people are on man. JT getting random strays for this is some very low iq shit. I would not want to know any of these people IRL
There’s a crazy amount of JT hate and I think it’s just because he comes off corny(which is fine) personally I think he’s top three in the league when healthy and want him to kill next year aside from games against the Cavs.
Top 3 in the league is delusional. He’s not even the top 3 in the East.
It’s my top 3, idc about yours
There’s gotta be drama, how am I supposed to follow this shit otherwise?
Yeah man, its levels to nba superstardom. Being the best player on the celtics doesn’t make you larry bird. I honestly feel like tatums got a price too and not necessarily because of his recent injury
I think if Tatum told Stevens not to trade JB, he wouldn’t have traded JB.
Sure, but why would Tatum do that?
Respectfully, I think Tatum cares about winning. And under the Celtics front office, the team has been the most successful team in the NBA in 2020s. Even if he felt someway about it personally, the front office has not given Tatum any reason to believe the decisions they make are not all in service of trying to win.
I don’t think we’re disagreeing here.
Ahh ok I got you my bad man
Yeah, but that means that he didn’t really value brown like that. Which is all what people are saying.
But players really shouldn’t do that. Sentimentality and emotion just clouds their judgment, plus front offices have WAY more understanding of the true value of a player when looking at the bigger picture of contract, cap, age/health/risk, etc.
Let GM’s do GM stuff. Players should stick to playing.
This move has dropped them out of contention for at least 3 years
yeah im glad hes smart enough not to meddle though
Or he didn’t like brown
Mfs need their little soap opera
JET with the veteran leadership
He can’t get his initials!
He’s older than Jayson Tatum!
Fitty five
J Will!
That whole thing had me wondering… did Jason Terry have an older JT teammate who forced him into being Jet?
Nah his initials are actually JET. Middle name Eugene
This sub, and social media in general, is so weird about Tatum
People really give guys more shit for being corny than pretty much anything else.
*Drives so fast he could kill someone* 😏
*Is corny and a bit awkward in front of a camera* 😒
[deleted]
People hate Tatum way more than say, Ant who has 42 baby mamas and says homophobic slurs. Lamelo not on the same level of fame.
Not all people, I’ve been super vocal about ANT being a shit person. I’ll hate on Tatum but that’s cause he’s a Celtic.
Edit: a word
Lamelo is more famous than either lol. Has significantly more following/presence on the internet, had a tv show since he was a child and is just generally more known.
Followers as a metric of fame is tenuous at best. I have more followers than people who are objectively famous. If you want to make the argument he’s more famous amongst non sports fans, then sure I guess.
in what scenario would someone know Tatum because they watch sports but not Lamelo? it’s ridiculous. Lamelo is more famous both ways lol
Because Tatum is one of the top 5 players in the league, and has been for the last bunch of years, and Lamelo isn’t.
*WAS a top 5 player. Brunson took his spot ahahaha sucks to suck. JT needs a finals mvp to beat the new allegations!
Popularity is not a 1:1 correlation with talent. Lamelo is way more popular overall than JT.
Enjoy your boring star player getting cooked by Brown this year ahahahah
This is complete nonsense
Celtic downvotes are COPE JT is a nobody compared to Lamelo. He just is!
Rightfully so
I got you today 🤞🏽
Tatum is a great ambassador for the game. Seems like a standup guy.
Brady got the same kind of weird hate until he went to the Bucs. Whatever team Tatum ends up on later in his career, I guarantee we’ll see the same switch.
Brady was actually kinda weird tho and it got a pass because he’s the goat. JT just a lil corny lmao.
Imagine what would happen if JT kissed deuce on the lips LMAO
This sub would fucking implode lmao
Ngl I didn’t think he was weird till after he left the patriots. I hated on him for winning every other year but I never paid much attention to his personality or personal life. Had no idea he was kissing his son on the lips and football was ruining his marriage till he went to Tampa lol
The patriots dynasty was ran kinda like the spurs dynasty; the players usually kept it professional in press conferences & you wouldn’t hear about personal/off field stuff unless it was something truly crazy
Brady GOT weird later in his career.
Even Patriots fans will agree with that.
But he definitely had an image rehab when he went to the Bucs.
People just regurgitate jokes they see on social media now
It is weird to hate on a guy for being kinda corny. I wholeheartedly hate him because he’s a Boston Celtic.
r/celtics, and celtics fans in general, have such a weird victim complex about Tatum
I think it’s because he’s so corny, and unoriginal.
What a corny and unoriginal take
The text to Kobe and posting the screenshot lost me
You guys hold on to that post more that tatum holds on to kobe still
It was a weird post dude it’s okay to admit it.
Sure it was. It was also how many years ago? You hold up one social media post from years ago like it’s the only thing that defines him. It’s okay to move on dude
I’m mostly tired of Celtics fans trying to ram him down our throats.
Then close your mouth bro
Analytics crew gonna be in shambles when Tatum leads them to the exact same position Brown led them to last year.
So the team stays exactly as good while getting 2 frps and 2 srps for taking on a purportedly worse player? I don’t think that’s the slam dunk “own the dorks” result you seem to think it is
They were champions, finalists and multiple time ECF with both.
Not with both getting 35% of the cap.
They were champions with Tatum, Brown, White, Porzingis and Jrue Holiday
Tatum and Brown had the 3rd and 4th highest cap hits on that team.
Don’t even try to bring logic into this
PG13 is worse than Brown but he’ll play more than the 16 games Tatum played last year so it’s not a far comparison.
If the Celtics are the same or worse than last year it proves OPs point
The way I’m coping…
Last year was JB was the lead dog. Next year we’re upgrading our lead dog to Jayson Tatum. And adding Paul George and Mitchell Robinson. Also I don’t know what it looked like in the small sample last year, but D-White has always been dramatically better on court with Tatum, so I’m expecting a fairly big rebound year from D-White.
I would say that this team should be better than the JB-led pace from last year, which was ~54 wins. That said, I still expect Tatum to rest a lot. PG and Robinson are often injured so if they miss time, the depth will be tested again. With all that, the regular season record may be the same or a bit worse, but if they’re healthy come playoff time, I think they’ll be in a better position than they were this year.
That’s not cope that’s pretty logical imo. However that does further add to the op of this comment threads point, the Celtics better be better than last year given all the facts you stated
Not not cope brother that’s just what’s happening. Anyone who thinks the Celtics are worse this year than last needs their head checked.
If the team is just as good this year as last year when JT was literally injured then that is literally a sign the trade was bad lol
Hahaha you’re so right. Mfs gonna be stammering to explain how the analytics nerds are still wrong while the Celtics kick ass this year
Well the thing about last year is their franchise superstar basically missed the entire season so definitely an L if theyre exactly as good as they were without him
I mean with that logic why don’t we just stay with JB and trade tatum for even more picks if we’re ok with settling?
No so the team gets worse because they dont have both star players and they dont win another ring. How are cetltics fans just trying to match your sorry performance last year??
I don’t think they are I think he’s just responding to the comment; isn’t the implication behind spamming “6th in MVP voting” that they’ll be much worse without him?
You don’t get it, ok? Getting humiliated by Philly is their goal. Happy to do it again, even helped them out to ensure it.
The fact that the Celtics FO, one of the smartest in the league, traded JB to the 76ers should tell you exactly what they think about Philly lol.
Given this is the same org that started Ron Harper Jr in a game 7, more than fine with them continuing to downplay the Sixers
He played 4 minutes.
FWIW I don’t know that I agree, I think both of us may end up being good this year.
This is dumb as hell.
This is confusing to me- Tatum played last season, they went 13-3 with him lol. Why would the exact same record with no Brown at all be a loss for analytics?
Is it really that hard to understand? Brown had a good record but supposedly poor analytics that hold them back, so Tatum with a similar core should have a better record. If he ended up the same, it kinda pushes against the former argument. Unless you start getting into the weeds and suggesting last season was easier than this season will be across matchups (which starts to veer into “finding evidence your hypothesis is correct” over the truth territory).
The conclusion that many are drawing is that Jaylen wasn’t nearly as productive as an All NBA ball handler at his usage and salary should be, not that he was ‘holding them back’, that’s a poorly designed strawman
Analytics is a cute boogeyman but somebody whose never watched basketball can just look at 10 games each of Brown, Cade and Luka and pick the odd man out
And Brown played in 47 of the Celtics 56 wins last year, with just 35 of those being without Tatum lol. I think I’ll hit the over on 35 wins with Tatum and that roster lol
Tatum came back March 6th against Dallas, Brown was 41-21 at this time playing with Hugo Gonzalez, PP, Queta, White, Schierman, and Hauser as his rotation.
That’s clearly the bar set for Tatum as his team this season is not going to be worse than that supporting cast.
But the league is going to be much better because of the new tanking rules AND we don’t have a historic draft with 4 really good players. I think a better barometer for success would be how well we do in the playoffs rather than wins alone and how much we win relative to other top teams
Less teams tanking as hard is definitely going to be a thing this year though. So it will be hard to say that record alone is gonna be the decider of whether they were better or not with Tatum instead of Brown.
It’ll just be reframed as a positive
With less tanking teams this coming season it would be a positive.
lmao what? that’s literally the scond best outcome available to them. of course they would be happy.
So 35 wins? Because that’s all Brown did in games he played before Tatum returned.
Don’t talk about the 6th best player on the team like that
A lot to ask when we’re still not sure what post Achilles Tatum will look like. They’re going to need about 70 games and 35+ minutes a night from him.
Uh, did you sleep through the end of last season?
He played 16 of 18 games straight when he returned, averaging 33 minutes. Minutes restriction was lifted by the end too.
Also, Tatum off a post-Achilles injury is still better than any version of Jaylen Brown
They will just come up with new excuses. We’ve seen this script before:
[Thunder trade Westbrook for Chris Paul and picks]
[CP3 leads tanking Thunder to a better record than Westbrook ever did. Westbrook implodes in Houston]
[Westbrook continues to be a disaster in every situation, CP3 continues to get #1 seeds and Finals appearances]
[Roll Credits]
Tatum would have been to 6 straight all NBA first team this season if he didn’t get injured I think he’s going to do GOOD as a first option like always
Idk why it’s guaranteed that he’ll go back to that level of performance coming off of the injury
Because he was close to it in the 16 games he did play, looking a lot like his old self despite being obviously rusty and not close too 100%
Tatum has the worst PR lol
Thanks for the update Jet
Oh no not Jason Tatum motivated 😱
Rough time to be Kobe’s phone number
It just keeps dinging in Kobe’s coffin
I don’t have an issue with the Celtics trading JB away but the fact they got Paul George in return is the crazy part.
It’s honestly wild that so many people think JT orchestrated the move, wasn’t it unprecedented when reports started rolling in that Bron had a say in front office moves? Its not a regular ordeal
It’s a lot of pressure when you consider he’s still just a kid
A motivated JT, nba is fucked
I feels like youre hyping it to be something its not
At his best tatum is great, but not MVP or best in the world level
why would anyone talk to this guy knowing its just going to end up on a podcast the next day? lmao
Ok
Jeff Teague is a modern Shakespeare, isn’t he?
Of course JT wasn’t responsible for the trade, why would he wanna downgrade to PG. JT cares about winning, downgrading to PG isn’t a win. Maybe the picks will end up well but that’s a few yrs from now. No way in hell should JT be blamed for the trade. He’s a great teammate & guy off the court (being “corny” isn’t a good reason to hate IMO)
Tatum always had Jaylen to be a lightning rod for criticism. It’s all on him now
Were tens of millions of dollars he got before this year not motivation enough?
Is that achilles motivated though?
Texted Kobe and asked for advice.
Tatim coming off an Achilles injury with added pressure on his shoulders. Sounds like a recipe for success
What
He was just talking to his friend not putting out a statement, you try too hard to hate
Yes he could have said keep brown if it mattered to him. No “they” couldn’t twist those words.
Damn that’s weird? That’s all the Celtics cornerstone player had to say about the situation? Lol I understand business is business but come on. What are we reporting here?
It’s not reporting. It’s Jeff Teague talking about a conversation he had.
Tatum will demand a trade out within the next year. Celtics completely botched their roster from a championship team to whatever this is now.
Hopefully Tatum doesn’t go to Colorado in the offseason anytime soon to follow his idol’s footsteps.
Yall are so weird wtf
I’m not the one who idolizes kobe…
Which i find lame and embarrassing but your comment is even more embarrassing
But you are the one who makes dumb, played out jokes for Reddit karma.
I don’t think kobe’s extracurricular activities are a joke…
Ok cool, what’s your point?
Then why did you make a joke about it?
calling it out when it’s ignored isn’t a joke.
“I talked to my boy JT yesterday and he said ‘Whoa that’s crazy Jaylen is gone? I definitely had nothing to do with that and am completely surprised!’”
The fan fiction created over the years of the Tatum-Brown Celtics needs to be studied man. There is nothing to suggest Tatum wanted Brown out of Boston, but hey go off and post it to your tumblr later I guess
The league is just a soap opera to so many. I lot of people don’t even watch the games they just enjoy the fan fiction
Lol you make a good point, people always say “nba is a soap opera for men” but it’s really r/nba that’s the soap opera. People who only watch the games don’t care about all this shit
Shocked Pikachu Tatum face
Rob Pelinka traded AD, not me, not LeBron James!
Dude was in Cannes partying with Draymond while the trade was going down.
Did you want him locked in a war room with the GM or something? It’s the offseason
Your point please?
Yeah, so why do you think he was orchestrating the trade?
I don’t. I don’t get the impression he gets all that involved with front office decisions, which is fine.
