If the league considers Jaylen Brown as a neutral/negative asset on his current contract, how bad is Trae Young’s 4 year 212 million dollar extension?
Trae Young
2026-27: $49,500,000
2027-28: $51,975,000
2028-29: $54,450,000
2029-30: $56,925,000 (Player Option)
Jaylen Brown
2026-27: $57,078,728
2027-28: $61,015,192
2028-29: $64,951,656
I don’t agree that Jaylen is a negative asset, but the league seems to think so given the low trade offers for him. I’m confused how the Wizards inked Trae to such a giant extension in the same off season where it’s established that Jaylen is a negative asset on a comparable contract.
Does the 8-10 mil per year difference make a huge difference in the second apron era? Even considering that though, Jaylen IMO is a considerably better player than Trae so I think Trae’s contract would be considered worse than Jaylen’s.
Jaylen’s contract was signed pre second apron, but Trae’s contract was signed this off season.
