Imagine his driving skills in the Minny winters lmao. I live in a very wintery part of Canada and every year when snow falls, there’s accidents because people, most of whom have lived here all their lives, forgot how to drive in snow and ice. Now imagine fucking LaMelo doing it.
If I’m not mistaken, some wintery US places don’t even have laws requiring you to use winter tires in snowy conditions? That’s absolutely wild to me as a Swede
We have pretty aggressive snow removal in Minnesota relative to the typical snowfall we receive in any given storm, so generally they’re not a necessity.
They are absolutely a necessity in any sort of freezing weather. Doesn’t really matter if there is lots of snow on the road or not. I also have a hard time believing the entire state of Minnesota manages to clear every road of snow the instant any of it gathers there.

Some places are so used to snow that they’re extremely prepared and it’s unnecessary to have winter tires because why? The roads are always going to be clear.
I never said I did. Clearly the state officials know less or probably just care less about safety than those in other parts of the world, though. Should probably look to replace them with ones who actually know anything about driving in wintery conditions.
And like I said: No place that gets any decent amount of snow will ever have all their roads cleared. AND it’s not just the snow, you need winter tires for the ice as well. The ice does not get cleared by plows, salt etc.

The raw fatality data spikes in the warm weather months. It’s got more to do with road design based on federal highway standards that makes the roads feel psychologically so much wider.
The permasnow tends to psychologically slow us down due to the roads feeling narrower even if they aren’t. And most Minnesotans live in urban areas so winter accidents due to poor traction are overwhelmingly fender benders.
Summer tires lose adherance to the road starting at 7°C (45°F) so anywhere under that you’re putting yourself at risk for litterally no reason.
People here generally have all-seasons, not summer tires. Yes, all-seasons leave something to be desired in winter, but it’s a much better starting point.

My biggest surprise here is the fact that a post where Lavar Ball is talking doesn’t get removed by the mods. While at ucla, my commute to my job was 50 minutes despite being like 6 miles from my apartment lol. I will say spending that time listening to music/podcasts was honestly not bad as long as I wasn’t running late
I remember it would take an hour going from Barrington to Westwood Blvd sometimes, no way would a podcast keep me calm that long.

I live in a very small town 4 hours away from the nearest (smaller) city. I drive an hour plus for work everyday, paid in the company truck though. I do really enjoy my commute, but it’s all open highway in the beautiful Canadian country side.

i totaled my old car a few years ago. haven’t bought one since and am so much happier for it. living somewhere i can do it is a privilege, but it really relieves so much pressure. i recommend everyone try and replace the car for at least some trips.
As someone who stays in a country with good public transport and have done a fair bit of driving, I don’t see the appeal. You get to free your attention for books/doomscroll/videos but you’d rather deal with traffic, bad drivers and road rage?
People like driving because you’re in control. You’re physically controlling the car and sometimes you can enter a flow state if there isn’t bad traffic, and you’re also in complete control of where / when you want to stop which is appealing
I still prefer taking reliable and fast public transit but driving has its appeal, plus there’s like 2 cities in the US where driving isn’t the only efficient transportation option
In most of America public transport and especially walking aren’t very good options to get places. Walking might be more dangerous than being in a car in places like Houston. They can probably hit a track day no problem. Not many vehicles, large runoff and full medical staff. I work at COTA in Austin and you would really have to be going balls to the wall to get seriously injured. Most people have never actually pushed a vehicle to the limit and hitting a track day even with a Civic SI can be an eye opening experience if you’ve never tried going flat out before.
I get why if you own an expensive car, you would want to drive it. If you want to sit in the back and just get somewhere just use an uber or taxi.
Or own a different type of expensive car. A Rolls Royce Phantom is not intended for the owner to drive it, neither are the luxury sprinter van or escalade conversions.
