As a working professional in my late 40’s, I can tell you that something happens in your early 40’s. You start to get worn down. Showing up to work and grinding can turn into Groundhog Day. You just start thinking about life after retirement and how great it will be to have time for more of your passions and hobbies after you take the handcuffs off.

There’s no way LeBron doesn’t feel some of that at this point.

My sense is he’s too prideful to play until he’s a true role player and I couldn’t blame him for not wanting to put in all of the work to stay in as good of shape as he has but I would like to see him play until the wheels come off, which I think could be easily several more years if that was his goal and he was willing to shift his game even more as needed.

I’d like to see him play in the NBA as long as he can get minutes. Then go to Europe and play as long as he can get minutes. Then play wherever he can get pro minutes until he finally retires at 65.

what makes lebron different from the haslem comparison is he still has those stretches where he takes over games for 5-6 min straight. even at 40 he can decide ‘i’m scoring every possession’ and there’s nothing you can do about it. haslem was never that guy. the issue is he can’t sustain it for 40 anymore, just 2-3 bursts a game

You guys are underestimating how fast the body can possibly give up when getting at that age.

At Lebron’s age things can and do fall apart quickly. He might be a 20 ppg scorer one year then suddenly be ineffective or just too injured to do anything the next. I would suspect we’re near that point.

There’s no better situation than Cleveland in my (admittedly biased opinion):

-Storyline/Connection

-Roster Construction (Team just made the ECF, even though it was massively disappointing. It’s kind of forgotten after what the Spurs did in the Finals, though)

-Durability (Two regular season ironmen in Harden + Mitchell means LeBron can load manage himself into the playoffs)

But who really knows? The only thing I know for certain is that he’s not going to Memphis or Milwaukee.

Savannah definitely isn’t letting him play that long. Two years max.
