i’ve noticed front offices across the board having gotten a lot better over the past 5-10 years. lots of historically mediocre teams are making some pretty clever moves recently, and it seems like good front offices can’t just randomly fleece a good roleplayer or a first round pick off the bulls or someone every other season the way they used to.

I truly wonder with the way the CBA has worked if there will be trades like in this past draft where teams were moving off first rounders for seconds. Maybe that’s what Charlotte has in mind?

Also just another trend that will probably continue to increase under this modern cba is that can just buy a late 1st on draft night for three 2nd round picks. Picks 26, 29, and 30 in the draft that just happened were all traded for three 2nds on draft night. Detroit used three 2nds to move from 21 to 17. They seem more valuable than ever

Every year there’s gonna be a couple teams in that 25-30 range that are desperately trying to shed salary and would just rather not have to guarantee another contract.

Get enough 2nds and you can trade them for 1sts.

The Hornets have 11 firsts and like 20ish seconds over the next 7 drafts. I think they know.

As a hometown guy its sad seeing him fall so far, he was genuinely a legit 3&D guy for us. Maybe he just needs a guard to be effective idk, Luka made him look really good on the Mavs and Lakers.

Honestly I feel bad for him given how good he looked for us. I was sad when he left but man he looked so bad for the Rockets.

I remember when he was vital on that mavericks run and was a big part of beating that suns team, such a shame how he fell off.

I didn’t realize how strong the case that DFS was the worst player in the league last season until I checked his stats. They are terrible.

Nobody in the league who played 600+ minutes had a lower PER than he did (5.8) and he had a negative PER in the playoffs which I thought was mathematically impossible.

But analytically he’s a top 5 player

you could see it coming in the Lakers-Wolves series I thought. His value was inflated because he was the only semblance of perimeter defense on the team but he just looked old out there and really wasn’t stopping anybody

It’s an even bigger fall off when you realize that this dude was supposed to be an important rotational piece for a Mavs team that actually had expectations to win

He was never that great for LA, he just got a lot of hype because the Lakers traded for him. He was solid for DAL for a few years, but I was genuinely baffled by how much interest he was getting as a 31/yo average 3&D player.

Statistically he was only better than Jaylen Brown- he was that shocking.

The Dfs / Vando lineups for the 3 minutes after Vando hit his one 3 of the month was the platonic ideal of that roster, it was beautiful

I doubt he plays a single game for us tbh, those numbers are atrocious

Lmao this is crazy but is probably the only hope this franchise has in FA. Lance Stephenson, Gordon Hayward, and Kelly Oubre are the only FA signings I can remember us making in recent memory that weren’t just minimum contracts or re-signings.

Because it’s not 40M, it’s only 13M. The last 2 years are non-guaranteed.

Yeah he had ankle surgery in the off season. He actually recovered slower than expected and ended up making his debut on Christmas on limited minutes. Then he just didn’t really do much in the minutes he got. I hope he uses this off season to get back to being at least serviceable.

Yeah I love Smart but bro shot 33% from 3 last year with two of the best orchestrators in the league.

I think his offense is gonna look his age real soon.

I think after the last draft there is a lot of reason to be optimistic about what we might do with these picks. Getting 3 rookies who immediately made a huge impact in Kon/Sion/Kalkbrenner (not to mention making the unpopular but very correct choice in Kon) was a big part of the turnaround last year. Both our picks this year fill needs and seem to be high IQ players.

I also think we’ll go buy someone in the next year or so, after evaluating BM a little bit more
