I must say the unrelenting and systematic scrutiny surrounding Jaylen Brown in all facets of his game, character, and career for the last week has been incredibly bizarre. I can’t remember the last time it’s been to this extent with another star n the league.
It’s gotten past the stage of critiquing just his game and the advanced analytics. Discussion is devolving into personal attacks, it’s getting harder and harder not to see some of the commentary coloured with wanting to humble a confident outspoken man who isn’t just going to “fall in line”.
Sure he made some comments that could’ve rubbed the organisation and maybe some teammates the wrong way, but to throw out the previous 8 year track record of Brown being the ultimate pro always there and ready to show up for his team over a couple ill-advised streams is unjust maligning of his reputation. It doesn’t stop at just the media, the organisation has gone out of its way to disrespect their longest tenured player, finals mvp, and one of the best two-way wings around smack dab in the middle of his prime.
I won’t delve into the advanced metrics conversation that’s a whole eye-test/analytics topic for another day, but I do think he’s being undervalued. Always been fairly neutral when it comes to JB, but my God am i rooting for that man to succeed over the next couple years and make some people eat their words.
