Jaylen Brown responds to a sad young Celtics fan, “It’s ok lil bro ❤️ we will always be friends”
I never get why people record their children crying
Clicks, engagement, or because they simply want attention
End thread.
It gets celebs to respond, so clout chasers will post in hopes of getting in front of the celeb, getting swag from the celebs, or just feeling like they’re “seen” in some way.
When I was a kid I always wanted to be on TV, this is the modern equivalent of that
But the problem is anyone can randomly go viral so you’ve got tons of people who are constantly trying to make that happen
So I grew up in LA, loved movies, and begged my dad to take me to a Disney audition. We show up, and as a five-year-old I’m handed a piece of paper by a PA and told to memorize the lines in ten minutes, then say them in front of a camera.
My dad looks at the lady, then at the sheet of paper, and goes, “I couldn’t do that if you gave me an hour.” She just looked at him and simply said, “Well, then he won’t be cast.” So we go outside, and I swear there are like forty kids with their parents. The parents are full-fledged screaming at their children. Again we were all five. I could barely read. I looked at my dad and was like, “I don’t think this is for me.”
So we went and got ice cream.
Parents are our true heroes!!
I think it’s such a double edged sword that celebs are so accessible online. It can be cool as a fan but it also ramps up the parasocial factor for more obsessive fans and has people doing shit like this without thinking about the consequences.
If this gains enough traction, more likely than not the child will get more signed Jaylen Brown gear so it might work. Unfortunately ever since 2020, engagement is social currency
2020……?
ITS ALL WUHANS FAULT
Jaylen brown already commented on her post and told the little boy they’ll always be friends.
It’s cool that happened but his friends are gonna cook him for life over this lol
Thank god I grew in a time before every thing-was documented
Yeah I mean this is something that might be tough as a kid but will be cool once he’s like college aged.
Plus Jaylen has already talked to him, I would be shocked if he never sends a signed jersey or they do a meet and greet or something.
He’ll be alright.
None of you have kids or have been through a baby album/watched home videos from before the internet.
Some people may be trying to drive engagement or whatever, but people just…film their kids because they love them. I guarantee your parents took the time pre camera phone to take a picture/video of you crying. And they took the time to bring the camera out, set that shit up and get that shit developed.
You just film your kids doing fucking everything and how they react to everything. You film your kid eating a lemon for the first time, or watching a movie or being happy after taking a shit or being sad after taking a shit. Because you really love your kids and you think everything they do is really fucking cute
Posting it to the internet is the issue my man
There’s a difference between filming your child to capture moments and memories, and filming your child having a breakdown and uploading it to the Internet
A huge difference
Kids have breakdowns because they found out food can be spicy for the first time or they saw a dog. Parents always filmed their big sports fan kids after losses even in the fucking 80s. This isn’t trauma you fake empathetic goons lol
I think they are saying the “uploading it to the Internet” thing is the bad part lol not filming for your own personal family collection.
I agree with your original point tho about just filming everything your kids do because it’s adorable but I do also think this video went on a bit too long lol like damn the first 30 seconds was probably enough stop shoving the camera in his face asking him why he’s crying over and over ya absolute weirdo
I lived through that and I was embarassed every time my mom showed it (some of my vids) to her friends. She even showed it to my friends and they teased me for years lmao, I didn’t appreciate it one bit. Ofc looking back it’s kinda sweet but imagine being a kid right now in the digital age. Randos in the internet can now see you at your vulnerable moments.
I’m out of storage space because I take so many videos of my kids. You think I’m putting them on Instagram like a cat? Fuck no.
I don’t even have kids. I take so much videos with my nieces and nephews. I don’t have gram or any of that stuff. I had to move some videos to a portable drive coz my phone is begging me for more space. Those videos and photos will never find their way on the internet.
You’re actually rewatching your kid’s reaction after taking a shit?
Especially nowadays with how accessible and high quality cameras are.
Back then, you’d have to go out of your way to spend a bunch on an actual camera, or buy a bunch of disposables and then take it somewhere to get the film developed.
Time flies and you gonna wish you had more of the memories captured.
Is that the year you first got on the internet or something lmao
i dont think in this case it’s that cynical. I think it shows a core memory for the child down the road and JB the impact he has on people.
Posting it is pretty fucking cynical
it’s really not considered he actually reached out
Thinking it’s cynical is certainly cynical. It’s an adorable video of a child dealing with big emotions.
Recording your children crying is one thing, and is low key kinda weird especially if you’re egging them on, like in this video
Posting it for the whole world just to see just FOR CLOUT is another thing altogether is trashy af.
The kid is crying over Jaylen Brown being traded. It’s not that deep lol
The first bit is whatever. Maybe you didn’t realize how upset they were or just wanted a quick shot of an admittedly dramatic reaction.
The last 75% of her basically purposely pushing his buttons to get more reaction out of him was gross af
I can’t believe all the children in this thread acting like it’s normal and healthy to be creating and publicizing these videos. Hope they don’t have kids!
see, that’s the thing. a lot of the people that post here are literally teenagers, their parents did the same thing to them, they think this is normal.
Yeah his high school friends are gonna LOVE to bring up this core memory caught on video 🤣
This was uncomfortable to watch because the kid was actually heartbroken and I could just feel the mom smiling behind the camera. Usually the videos with kids are fake or exaggerated but this was legit and really hard to watch
she was egging him on to cry more for her video
Kids can be irrational but the way to react to an eight year old kid crying like his life is over because an NBA player got traded is to try and put into context and explain that he’s going to be OK.
Not film it for clicks and make him feel worse
Yeah, he needed comfort in that moment, the image in the corner is clearly him meeting Jaylen. Kids these age don’t know how to immediately deal with complex emotions like this.
I mentioned in another comment, he can still be a fan of Jaylen Brown, and root for the Celtics. It’s the beauty of sports. I had tons of favorite players from the Red Wings, while seeing one of get traded sucked. I was still a fan of them.
Well in this case Jaylen actually reached out, so I guess it’s not all bad. Kids cry all the time too so it’s not like there should be some embarrassing stigma behind it.
Yeah, as a father this kind of thing is generally funny in the moment. Like, kids cry about a lot of dumb shit, and half the time they’re actually just hungry or tired instead of whatever it’s nominally about. So a lot of times you’re just kind of laughing at the situation, trying not to be dismissive but also not mirroring their world-is-ending energy.
Not a social media guy but I might record a couple seconds to send to my wife if she wasn’t there for it lol.
Yah my son is currently trying to hide from me and is crying behind a curtain because he doesn’t want to go down for a nap. I’m 1000% taking a video and sending it to my wife and family cause it is pretty funny.
Probably wouldn’t post it go social media but this shit is harmless
I’m a dad too x2, very very big difference between a crying 2 year old and a crying 6 year old and what they notice and what they don’t.
Why not post it on social media? Share it here with the thread! It’s harmless right?
[deleted]
I think you replied to the wrong person
Yeah but isn’t that the fucked up part?
She kept pushing his buttons to get more reaction so that a celebrity might notice them.
Eh, I bet that kid would laugh at the video in a few years as a nice memory, but now gets to have JB responding to him (and this epic Reddit thread) for the rest of his life.
I’ve got some hilarious ones of me crying as a kid, now my kids laugh at those. Circle of life.
Would you mind sharing those videos along with your name, please?
“How does that make you feel?” Is the question that always makes me guess whether it’s real or not.
“Can you answer in a complete sentence why you’re sad, and talk clear for the camera?”
Like lil bro is crying right in front of you - you got your camera shot, go give him a hug 😂
Because we the audience are taking it in !!
I mean, in this case because he wanted to say something to JB and couldn’t without crying lol what kind of question is this
funny memory 10 years from now for sure
Bro it’s a cute moment. Parents been recording moments like this since the invention of digital cameras.
Not everything has to be this awful thing with sinister intentions, I’m sure the family will play this video at lil bros 18th bday and all laugh
So he can absolutely toasted later in life
Show i can show them later?
Duh
Attention
Maybe they want Jaylen to see it and see how much this kid loves him as a player. Clearly kid met JB and got his jersey signed…
Yeah that and tagging his social media account, which is insane to have as a six year old, is gross
I record my baby girl crying because one day she will never cry like that again. I want to be able to hear her little voice again. She has a soft cry that doesn’t project at all.
Kids are expensive as hell these days. Gotta monetize them for ad impressions.
Recording your kid being vulnerable and having an emotional moment and then posting it to the internet will always be a weirdo thing to do.
Came here to say this and the comments passed the vibe check. Good on Jalen for comforting the kid, but to the parents…“What are you doing? 🤔”
It’s called getting free stuff.
At the least, nothing becomes of it except some likes and views, at the most, they’ll get a repost, some signed gear, tickets to a game, a meet and greet….
Children deserve privacy too. Teach them they’re worthy of respect.
Completely agree, we record our 2 year old but only for our family group chat. We don’t post anything online, especially because of how messed up the world is and you don’t know who is watching.
The small dopamine hit as they see “likes” - then 5 minutes later they move onto the next hit. Fucking pathetic
lol reddit comments vibe check
Like I could maaaybe understand recording the initial reaction but it just went on and on. “HOW ARE YOU FEELING, BABY? I NEED THE VIEWS, BABY”
“You’re doing better now? Are you sure? Remember, he’s gone and you’re sad. Oh that’s perfect hold on, let me get my phone ready.”
Thank you, drives me frickin’ nuts. So exploitative.
It’s gotten to the point where people think I’m the weird one for being so protective of my kid and not posting them online.
Everyday we’re reminded of the fundamental shift social media has had on humanity. Just 15 years ago this would’ve been an intimate moment between a parent and a child, now it’s a Reddit post.
20yrs ago parents sent tapes to America’s Funniest Home video to get brief viral fame for their family’s embarrassing moments
Now it’s just 100x easier with social media
True but that’s hardly a comparison. Having a camera in your pocket to whip at a moments notice versus recording family home videos and just so happening to catch something note worthy.
I think the main difference is intention. Most of the AFHV entries were random moments ‘caught’ on camera, while today ppl are actively shoving cameras in their kids faces.
Just pointing out that the human psychology has always been there, the technology just wasn’t. You could make the same critical argument against the parents who made submissions to AFHV. There might not have been as much intention behind the filming (although I disagree, parents shoved camcorders in front of their kids back then too, I know my dad did), but there was intention behind them signing up and entering their video into it. The same arguments can be made for how odd it is that they sent their kids embarrassing moments for the whole world to see. The chance at being viral and winning social and financial currency was enough for them though, like it is today.
Social media just cuts out the middle man (or at least the middle man is less perceptible to users), and makes the process instantaneous.
Call me crazy, I wouldn’t be like “This is a great time to film my kid”
It’s worse. They put the signed uni on the kid first
I used to wear my signed Richard Seymour jersey all the time. When he got traded to the Raiders i tried to paint the jersey and my dad freaked out. Theyre kids…
A signed kids jersey is going to be like 100 bucks.
and it looks like he’s already colored all over it anyways.
Society is so messed up. I was at a concert the other night and all I could see was a sea of phones recording. Noone barely lives in the moment anymore.
Old people have been saying this about concerts for literally 15 years or more. There has got to be a new cloud to yell at.
I will say this, as an old dude. When I was younger, I would frequently try to find ways to record the shows. What I learned over time was that I was trading enjoyment of the show for a hope that I can enjoy the recording.
I don’t think it’s a new thing, but I do think everyone would be well served to be more present at concerts or other large events.
When people say such braindead cliche shit I just assume they’re bots. Might be even worse if they’re not a bot though
I’m not a bot. I’m just old I guess. Lately I catch myself saying shit like “ back in my day”. It might seem like braindead cliche shit, to me it just feels dystopian as hell. You don’t have to agree with me. You do you future boy.
It’s just silly to fall into the cycle of old man yelling at clouds. Like did you not have old people complaing about trivial shit growing up? It’s annoying and I personally try to avoid becoming that stereotype
Hey it’s not like I was going around confiscating their phones. Chill dude it was just an observation.
Not that serious. It’s more wholesome than anything
It would be the time to explain to your eight year old that there are worse things in life than NBA players getting traded
Nothing screams great parenting like emotional invalidation.
You can validate his feelings while simultaneously teaching them there are more important things in life.
Why would you wait two years to explain it to him?
Oooooh youre an asshole
lol the kids player got traded nothing actually devastating the crying is funny
She really uploaded her kid crying like that lmao
He’s gonna be tight when he becomes a teenager and sees that
My kid is a few years older and would murder me
Awesome pics. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakn’ huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation
content > kids.
The Mother doing this is really awful
In this economy whatever it takes to farm likes.
Likes, memorabilia that can be flipped for cash, an experience that boosts their status in their community…
Parasocial weirdo shit + straight opportunistic money chasing.
I was expecting her to do the nasty ASMR nail tap with her acrylics lol
Horrific parenting
Y’all are so hyperbolic.
What’s so bad about it? The video is cute. The kid isn’t actually traumatized, he’s just a kid being a kid. Could she be reassuring him better? For sure, but kids cry about everything.
I’m sure he’ll look back and find this whole thing funny.
People here are so disconnected from reality, always go with the worst most cynical possible interpretation to every situation.
People have and always will post their kids to social media it’s not that big a deal. It’s not like she knew this video would blow up, she was probably just intending to share with her friends
She needs those clicks
Why would Brad Stevens make this kid cry
Never meant to make your son cry
I apologize a trillion times
I am several fish and not a guy
Jaylens hair is real and it’ll last forever, forever, for ever-ever
Flair checks out
I would expect nothing else from an Atlanta fan.
Analytics.
“Ok baby start crying the camera is rolling”
How does that make you feel?
Why’s she asking questions like the kid is a UFC fighter or something
If this was a video of the kid naturally crying and they caught the moment, it’d be sweet.
But the whole video being directed is exactly like you said, especially with the multiple takes.
Towards the end the crying started looking fake too
This video is the reason Brad deleted insta
Shit you’re probably right haha
“Im in tears watching him cry like this…anyway like and subscribe below”
“Why was I born”
“To like, subscribe and hit that bell!”
Weirdo fucking parent behavior
You surprised?
Were at a time where the kids these age have parents raised in the social media era
No I’m not surprised. It’s just sad when it affects kids.
True
It’s harsh but after getting old, I’m very much of the opinion that most people should not be allowed to have kids
Lot of dumb mofos out there creating bad household environments and repeating bad things
Why the fuck would a parent put their child’s grief on the internet like this what the fuck
Hoping she goes viral / draws clicks / attention = currency in this messed up world.
There would’ve been a better way to do this that I’d have more empathy for. Like just a photo of him meeting JB and captioning that he’s heartbroken. It highlights that these athletes aren’t just assets and contracts, but to the people they’re sometimes seen as idols and heroes.
But actually filming him while crying is fucked up to me.
If I were that kid and saw this video later in my life, I may not be mad about the video itself but I’d be pissed at my parents for sharing that online.
Pretty cool of Jaylen to respond. Too bad you can’t find that anywhere in the post.
fr
Yeah the filming is one thing. I’d almost enjoy seeing it at an older age how passionate I was even as a kid. But posting it straight online is a different story.
Yeah I do appreciate her normalizing a boy sharing his feelings and emotions. Sharing online is a definite choice though.
Glad the comments are already saying it.
I love the outrage of a mother posting the special and sacred moment her child finding out his favorite player got traded. Oh, the embarrassment and bullying he face when he’s older. Such a tender moment shared to the internet that the kid will never laugh at because of the traumatic experience of crying over his favorite player being traded. The mom should give the kid up to CPS.
That’s how dumb the top commentators sound
Last year that video of that kid crashing out over the sauce Gardner trade went viral and people loved it, now this video is bad all of a sudden
Recording this and posting it online is beyond fucked up. Fuck this mother fr
First message was sufficient with the pics at the end! Such a cute kid, no need to have him blasted like that on the net with a whole interview/interrogation
Holy Moses did this post get bombarded by bots or something? It’s not like he’s crying over a lost relative. It’s an endearing video and we’ve all been there. Shows that there’s way more sincerity in sports fandom than we see online all day.
Awww :(
Idk it’s kind of cute. He’s a passionate fan. Don’t really see anything wrong with it
https://www.instagram.com/gio_thetiger/reel/DaRTDmcBvhp/
Where exactly is JB’s comment?
thank you! you’d think it’d be pinned
Way too much anger about a mom recording a video. This stuff happens all the time. She probably wanted to JB to see it in case it could become the greatest thing ever for her kid. And guess what? He did see it, and that kid will forever remember it.
Awww poor baby. Jaylen Brown better get this kid a signed Philly jersey and some kicks.
Weirdo behaviour filming this
Somebody tell this kid he can change teams
Nooooo uncle jaywen got twaded😭😭😭
Lot of “high and mighty” people in these comments. It’s not that serious and at least them doing this got his favorite player to at least acknowledge him. But it’s whatever cause every person in this comment section is the most perfect human I guess
Yall soft. I remember even before Social Media with camcorders we used to film a fit or crying situation for the little ones in 29 and my mom has film of me as a baby and kid crying or doing something funny
And it’s a hilarious memory. Everything gets posted nowadays and clearly it got the engagement since everyone talking about it.
Yall need to chill
I’m glad this sub is in agreement that posting this video was a shitty thing to do.
His momma wrong for this
Damn as a parent with kids that love basketball this was hard to watch smh
Where’s jb’s response?
Why does the night of the living dummies doll hate kids this much
Our child is crying! Quick! Get the camera!!
where did he respond? I checked his IG, Twitter, and his TikTok.
All of the comments hating on the mom are the absolute worst. You have missed the entire point and lack humanity, spare me.
real fan ngl
Giga Unc in the back aura farming
What’s wrong with the Mother doing this
Feel bad for the kid with a mother like that smh. Social media is shot
Kid has a mother that clearly takes interest in his interests, and cares enough about him to take him to games and let him meet and get a signed jersey from his favorite player but she’s a bad mom. What is actually wrong with you people.
edit: dude blocked me for this comment lmfao. Imagine being this emotionally fragile. Dude thinks this child is going to be emotionally scarred forever because there’s a video of a child being a child on the internet. Quick someone call CPS lmfao.
“I am in tears watching him cry like this. Somebody get my phone!”
dennis shroder u trippin
All y’all acting like y’all wouldnt/haven’t been the same exact way when your favorite player is randomly traded, retires or dies
If this was a white player and a white kid the tone of this thread would be completely different. Anyways, dope move by JB. Probably made this kid’s day🤙🏻
We love you Jaylen 😭
Burn that green shit and beg moms to buy you a new SIXERS jersey!
Mods should be deleting this. There is no reason to be posting crying children in this subreddit. OP you’re also weird for amplifying this.
This is the kind of parenting that needs to be shamed on Game of Thrones style
“Quick get the phone out let’s get some free shit from Jaylen”
Poor kid. I will feel the same way when Lebron retires
Damn. Sports- the ultimate breaker of hearts.
As a lifelong celtics fan, I feel his pain. Cap space aside, I don’t agree with the trade either
My son is crying let me film him to get attention!
Brad Stevens is going to pay for this. That kid is going to become a top prospect and remember this
Little Dude i felt the exact same way when we traded Dame to the Bucks Truly heartbroken. But then he returned! Dont give up hope.
Jaylen Brown is the best!
The whole city shares his pain
Oh my god what a sweet little guy
Tell your pops to move you to the Philly burbs, lil bro.
JB will truly be missed in Boston by the black folks he made a great impact here
Someone needs to show this kid the spreadsheets
I was gonna make a “noooo uncle jaywen got twaded” joke but this is actually sad.
My heart🥺😭
those thank yous came from the heart and hurt lil bro to say
The yell cry is hilarious lol
This is actually a 28 year old man from Massachusetts. Who still lives with his mom.
His mom makes him breakfast before he goes to work every morning
Awwwww lil bruh it’s gon be aight!!
Hope he gifts him a 76ers jersey
Just don’t try to teach the kid your version of history please
OP is not much better than the mother
Get lil bro a Paul George jersey /s
We hope Brown and the sixers bend the C’s over next year at every chance.
This is weird man
Not the kid being sad, the parent telling him to put on the signed jersey and recording him
