Pretty much everybody thinks or thought Jaylen Brown’s more valuable than this. 

Celtics needed to know Brown’s value would tank once word of negotiations got out.

So the two options are to clinch the deal or be willing to patch it over and keep him.

Trading him for pennies makes no sense - why not do that in February and catch a desperate team?

There’s a reason people think the Celtics got fleeced, and that’s because they thought like Simmons that Brown is worth more

It’s been a wild saga. Things started out with some fans insisting that Brown could be swapped straight up for Giannis. Then it was: Okay Brown + 2 FRPs for Giannis. Still not good enough. Bucks apparently wanted that package + Hugo and Baylor. Apparently, Brad wasn’t willing to go that deep for Giannis.

I was like a bunch of other people and couldn’t understand why the Bucks wouldn’t take the offer. Seems their FO knew what they were doing in that flipping Brown for assets was not going to be easy. Brad has been trying to get out of the Jaylen Brown game for years now and couldn’t secure a favorable offer.

It is what it is. The guy didn’t have much value

I don’t get why you guys “hate” listen to Bill. It’s the oddest thing. You clearly don’t enjoy listening to him or enjoy his takes. You’re looking with glee for him to fail and get things wrong in an anonymous online forum. It’s honestly quite sad.

Hugo being the sticking point for the Giannis trade is so hilarious.

I honestly love listening to Bill, sometimes his takes are absolutely gold hilarious and other times the guy hits the nail on the head. I think he didn’t see Boston was done with brown and wanted out, and the league wanted nothing to do with the contract and the personality.

After taking some time to think about it, I see Boston cutting money to build stronger around Tatum and PG even tho he’s older and injury prone shot the hell out of the ball this season especially on catch and shoot, my bet is they flip him at the deadline or next offseason as a big expiring contract. Yeah they could have gotten more for brown but if there’s no demand there’s no big return.

Bill also said that the second it came out the Celtics were interested in trading Brown for Giannis his trade value fell massively since everybody knew they now had to trade him somewhere else at some point.

I mean, again, as it was when people were telling me that Brad Steven’s was a genius after continuously making bad deals that I thought were dumb, I’m gonna hold my ground in saying that I don’t think anything Bill said aged like milk, because I think the Celtics got it wrong, again.

I’m absolutely certain I’m correct in this is the end of the brown AND Tatum era of relevance, Tatum will shrink as a number one with no good number 2 option, white will continue regressing, Paul George doesn’t even have to do anything but be himself because he’s a 36 year old 54 million dollar role player, and the Celtics will be average next year, and then the year after that when they make another stupid desperation move, and then they’re trade away Tatum and rebuild and I won’t see another title contending team until 2050.

Bill Simmons has had awful takes for 30 years. Why do people still listen to that guy?

I love Simmons (own his books, have been reading and listening since the early 2000s, etc) and I felt his aim was way off on this years offseason.

It would’ve gotten out anyway, but it’s a little ironic that Simmons was basically the first to break the news that Boston was in on Giannis, which meant Brown had to be in trade offers, which snowballed into Brown getting traded

Everyone is laughing at Boston because we agreed that Brown would cost a lot. Simmons was just inline with the group think that most had.

And Miami gave up a bunch of mid for Giannis. That is not a good return for him.

Fuck the Celtics but all of this is shocking and great because NOBODY predicted this.

I think this is not the right interpretation of what the trade value lists Simmons makes are. There is no way to create a list that can factor in all of the reasons why a team would or would not trade a guy, or what kind of haul they will get. Simmons’ list is more about general value.

To put it another way, Giannis is a high value trade asset, but only a small amount of teams in the league could trade for him because of salary and assets. Does that mean Giannis lacks “trade value” or is it just the circumstances in which he is traded are poor for the team trading him away? If the Knicks lost in the Finals, then theoretically they would have been in the mix to trade for Giannis, but because they won, they weren’t interested. Nothing changed with Giannis.

Luka was traded for peanuts. Is his trade value low? Of course not. Dallas was just stupid and had a GM who wanted to get rid of him.

As a blazers fan my favorite BS bit here was claiming we would need to give all our picks + Tumari + Jrue for JB. And this was coming off last off season when he said multiple times how washed Jrue was as a player and how the Simon’s trade was crucial for the Celtics.

I have a theory that the more Jaylen talks and feuds with the media and literally everyone (including Nike, team USA, espn) the more everyone sees him as 60-70 million uncontrollable team cancer.

I’ll probably get downvoted for this but im not impressed with the “young players” the Bucks got back. But it’s still a lot more than what the Celtics got.
