The issue is that teams tolerate toxic culture players if they are at an elite level. Like if prime Lebron, KD, Curry, Jokic, Giannis, etc were toxic the teams would put up with their shit because the benefit they add is worth it.

If I’m the Celtics yeah I’d be comfortable with Paul George on the roster instead of Brown.

If he was signed for 4 years that’d be ass but this is year 3 of the deal. If he plays like ass and he opts in they can bundle him with picks and trade him next off season with ease as expiring filler. If he plays good it’s possible he opts out and tries to grab a longer deal like Harden does.

The only thing I’m believing now is what essentially transpired and we kind of just saw it lol…there was no market for equal (which you usually never get) but at least abundant nice/great return for Jaylen…that Portland offer tells me it was either Scoot or Shaedon they were offering not both…because that’s what I’m essentially thinking in return especially at need for the Celtics…get both those young guards & also pick up 2 former C’s in Jrue & Robert as well

This was a case of the Celtics new ownership mandating that he be traded before extension talks. They clearly did not want to pay 2 players supermax contracts.

What I hate most is that even though Brown never asked for a trade, the process made it seem like Brown was toxic to the team, which he wasn’t. The Celtics got fleeced in this trade because the owners told Brad Stevens to trade him for as many picks possible, take back less salary and it didn’t matter where they traded him to.

As a Celtics fan, now I feel like the new ownership group has created a situation where they said “F” the fan base, “F” being competitive, who cares if we make the rival team in the same division stronger and look stupid in the process, just save money.

This exactly what happened in the Luka Doncic trade, and Niko had to take the heat in order to shield the teams new owners. I’m positive this specific trade was not Brad Stevens idea.
