I don’t think he’s ever going to play back to backs, but he’s so impactful when he does play that I still like this deal. We’ve managed him very well, and the fact he was willing to resign in portland when he had big market suitors says a lot about how he feels about our organization

What drafting Hansen Yang does to a MF(ing organization).

He was carefully managed throughout the year last season and was excellent down the stretch for Portland’s playoff push. 

If he was less of an injury concern he’d easily get $20+ million per year.

59 games last season and the Portland medical staff knows him best. He’d get a lot more money if there were no injury concerns.

he got healthy-ish when he needed to be. peak rob williams is/was a problem. genuinely changed the series vs us in 2023

I mean if there is anybody that is still worth that money despite injury history it’s Rob Williams his impact metrics were again crazy last year.

I don’t even think it’s that crazy of a contract. He was 100% going to make that money on the open market if he had reached it. When he’s on the court he’s an All-defensive type impact.

Blazers gonna hope timelord is COMPLETELY HEALED for the deal to be worth it.

A completely healed Timelord is worth far more than $15M/yr though. So this price tag is sort of a hedge between his peak value and his floor value.

Besides, he was going to get the MLE from somebody, probably a lot of teams. So Blazers had to do this to keep him.

He played 60 games this year + big minutes in the playoffs. Anyone who was watching the Blazers closely this year noticed that he’s turned a corner with his availability.

I hope as part of whatever trade we possibly do with the logjam guards includes another PF/C that can slip into that backup spot in the case that Rob does go back to his old injury ways

It’s the full MLE, not really that crazy. It just looks crazy because all contracts are inflated now

He somehow managed to have his healthiest season since his 2022 peak during a contract year.

He is a game changer whenever he plays

Robert Williams is twice as valuable in the playoffs… very impactful when the game is on the line.

RWIII got the mitch robinson type deal. Athletic big who has injury problems and can only play limited minutes but can create an impact. I think Mrob also got ³⁄₄₅ mil and that worked out fine for the Knicks. under 15 a year is fine for a rotational guy.

Portland had basically no leverage. They desperately needed RWIII. He knows that, everyone knows that.

When he’s healthy he’s awesome. He just has to be healthy more 

Good agent but they also had leverage. The Blazers desperately needed timelord back and the C market is not the best

He played like 60 games and probably could have played more if not for an abundance of caution by the medical staff. Maybe it’s the exception to the rule, but if he plays 60 games and the playoffs each of the next three years then this is a fantastic deal. Better him than Ja Morant or Jerami Grant

The Blazers know how to manage his injuries after their load management strategy they used for him last year. Plays around 20 minutes max and doesn’t play back to backs.

Adding in the locker room boost he adds to our team and our lack of front court depth this was a must for us moving forward.

There’s a reason he had plenty of interest around the league

He did play 57 last season and was really good in the playoffs

So happy about this. The Celtics do not deserve to get Timelord back after what they did to his knees.

the staff did a great job managing his minutes and keeping him healthy all last season. they must believe that they have the right balance and his impact on the court and fit with the squad kind of makes the gamble a no-brainer

If not, just get Jonathan Isaac to COMPLETELY HEAL him and you’re good to go

Or 64 games last season if we’re not looking for clickbait numbers.

Portland was pretty good about managing his use this year and he played well. I think there’s a decent chance this deal looks alright two years from now.

He had solid stretch last season. His knees needed full rehab and strengthening. He didn’t even trust his legs at first.

Robert Williams pre knee surgery was one of the funnest players to watch.

I played on a biddy ball team with him in 5th grade and was really good at inbounding the ball to him and watching him run up the court like Giannis to score all of our points en route to the championship. I think I deserve some credit here.

That honestly surprised me, I thought the injury concerns would prevent him from getting anything like this but Portland managed him well and probably felt confident in their ability to keep him healthy.

To be honest, the Blazers have been fairly dumb middle-class money for a long time now. They occasionally strike gold like the Avdija trade, but they’ll follow up every good move with two or three completely mediocre moves.
