He’s not NBA ready, but has shown flashes in summer league and the g League. Very much a reach, but also somewhat of a money grab due to getting a lot of that market via jerseys and views.

I didn’t expect much, dude only played Chinese basketball and didn’t know English, so it was always going to be a very rough introduction to the NBA.

Our former head scout/assistant GM Mike Schmitz was obsessed with Yang, so obsessed he got himself suspended for tampering. We’ll see if that obsession ever pays off but now that Schmitz is with the Mavs perhaps they’ll be interested in making a trade for the Chinese phenom 🤔

first reporting is almost always player/agent friendly. so maybe the team got a team option or some unguaranteed money, or they talked him down from a 4th year or a player option. or ascending vs descending money.

It’s Portland. There’s not a lot of grift in being able to say you know what Portland’s doing, and the org was pretty close-mouthed even BEFORE El Cheapo descended and started cutting positions that insiders coulda/woulda pumped for info.

I honestly think there are still legitimate “insiders” in the industry (not as many as get attention for talking shit, but that’s just the debased/devalued status of reporting in general) but there’s simply nothing in it for the clickchasers to set up relationships with Portland. It’s a few other teams that are like that too, honestly.

The team strictly limited his minutes and didn’t let him play back-to-backs last season and it worked, he finished healthy and was effective when he was on the floor.

Depends how you define healthy lol. First two years in Portland he played 26 games total, last year it was 59 + the playoffs. They were pretty aggressive with managing his playing time, he never played in both games of a back to back, had some games where he was held out for rest. If they’ve actually found the right way to manage his injuries and he can replicate how he played this year it should be a good contract. Definitely a dice roll.

Piggybacking off what everyone said already, Timelord is allegedly happy with how the training staff in Portland approached this seasons minutes and treatment.

So it’s possible that he just feels happy and comfortable with his current playing situation given his injury history. And Clingan had a massive year 2 jump, so we can continue to lean on him and let Rob cook from the bench.

yeah, the system has encouraged it so that players don’t just drop out into the abyss anymore. Free agency is scary financially for players, and teams don’t like letting contracts expire to get nothing.

players definitely prefer it this way. Idk if teams do. There are very avenues to get better now, especially with the new tanking rules.
