100% agree. Not saying the Raptors would have dominated or ran the east like LeBron did. But I think the raptors could have for sure won another ring. The team was insanely stacked. They won 59 games year before with just demar and Toronto still went 17-5 when Kawhi didn’t play. Once Kawhi arrived, the raptors were my favorite in the east. You couldn’t say in the nba because the warriors had KD and just picked up boogie Cousins .

The leverage is that he was pretty much a top-10 player last year. That comes at a cost regardless of everything else. The cost is far less than it would have been without the extenuating circumstances, but it’s still not going to be cheap to get him

It’s straightforward. Kawhi finished 7th in MVP voting and was honestly probably the fifth best player in the league last year.

He’s just an exceptional player still. It’s weird to ignore that aspect of it entirely in your framing.

I think that more than likely the Clippers will get a slap on the wrist and Kawhi will get nothing. It’s not illegal to accept cap circumvention techniques. It’s against the rules to pay them. It’s the job of a team to say “No” to stuff like that like the Raptors did in 2019. Even if it means you lose out on getting the player as a result.

I’ll feel the same way if he isn’t traded to the Raptors too.
