This trend would’ve happened anyway. Front offices (at least most of them) are just less stupid than before, teams were throwing money around in the past. Also rookies are just generally better than ever and the depth of talent in the league is the best that it’s ever been, so players are just much more replaceable. Like 15 years ago second round picks were throwaways that rarely worked out, nowadays half the teams in the league have undrafted/second round picks that are key contributors on bargain contracts

Why? Players get the same amount of money. It’s a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ split with the owners. Nothing changed.
