Kyrie Irving goes up against young fan who believed he can guard him
not gonna lie that defense wasn’t bad. the second jump with his left arm up was a good recovery
Not bad at all for defending one of the best handlers ever
Crazy when you think kyrie is going like 50% speed here also
I splurged to get nosebleed seats for G1 of the 2017 Finals because why not? Once in a lifetime opportunity. In a game that had LeBron/KD/Curry my two biggest takeways seeing those two great teams live were:
You understand how quick these athletes must be, but seeing it live was a whole different experience. His foot quickness was almost like a cartoon.
He’s giving this fan a little preview, but definitely holding back a lot.
I was gifted 2 rows back from courtside for cavs vs detroit first round 2016, and I swear to god watching Kyrie that close it’s like watching a magic trick.
I’ve sat courtside at G league games and even then I was amazed by how athletic these dudes are when you see them play up close. Really gives you some perspective on just how accurate Scal’s “I’m closer to LeBron than you are to me” quite actually is.
Going to a game live teaches you two things: these guys are huge and they’re the most athletic people I’ve ever seen
People say they don’t play defense in the NBA, but I genuinely don’t know how anyone ever scores.
I got to be on court when the Clippers played the Hawks a year or so ago. Who surprised me most was Harden - that man is SOLID.
Saw James harden in his prime on the rockets. Probably the most deceiving pro athlete you’ll ever see on TV.
In person he was the quickest guy on the court despite being an absolute physical load.
It was shocking to see in person and I had been to many nba games before.
I think Klay’s defense has become underrated** over time, probably because he aged into a bad defender. Peak Klay was truly elite on both ends.
Oh everyone knows Klay sucks at defense now
But back in the day he definitely wasn’t overrated
Right like Kyrie is maybe going 10% speed. People really don’t understand how fast and skilled these players are
Watch this at 10x speed if you’re actually being serious
Yeah this is more like 1⁄4 speed or 1⁄2 speed. Definitely 10% effort though.
watching him move on the court is addicting. my mirror neurons are like oh baby yeah
not the same really but i went to a game to see KAT on the TWolves. i spent the whole game going “who the hell is 5?” that was Ant’s rookie year and i’ve been a fan since
You didn’t know the first pick of the draft?
“One day back in 2003 in Sacramento I saw a young man I knew would be great one day. Whatever happened to Lebanon James?”
Didn’t Ant wear #1 as a rookie?
He wore 1 for his first 3 seasons
For real. I got to watch Luka and Kyrie in Orlando for a regular season game, and as awesome as Luka was, Kyrie was just incredible to watch. Dude’s a magician with the ball (pun intended).
We lost by like 20 but idgaf.
That first dribble size up nearly dropped him then he really eased up after that. These people are just in another league to the rest of us
He’s one of those players where i think the fan eye test doesn’t do him justice. It’s how all his peers talk about him. He is operating on a level we mortals can’t comprehend. There is a reason he was so hyped even though he barely played at Duke.
Just gotta watch the feet not the ball
Watch the hips, not the ball. The feet can lie.
So Shakira, was coaching
I was taught to watch the stomach. Wherever the stomach goes the body goes
Stomach and hips are pretty much the same general vicinity. As long as you’re looking at the lower part of the upper torso then you’re all good
Funny oxymoron
Bingo!!
Shakira, Shakira !
Wrong, watch all balls.
I would watch all those carries mostly.
the belt buckle, it goes left, body goes left
Yeah, just watch Kyrie Irving’s feet and stay with him. How hard could it be
😵💫
The hips, Chico.
Pretty sure Kyrie was playing at like 10% here. He was messing around like the dude at the Y that got better handles than everyone else there and is just goofing on people. When he first starts he had the guy on skates and then realized he should probably chill and not go to hard on the kid.
Yeah, this isn’t a Brian Scalabrine situation where some dumb-ass keyboard warriors needed to be schooled and learn to appreciate that even the pros who aren’t superstars still work their asses off and are the best players in the world.
I doubt this guy was delusional enough to really believe he could guard Kyrie, he just talked some trash, then when Kyrie called him out on it was willing to let himself be humbled in front of the whole stadium. That takes balls. Kyrie’s obviously holding back, but he’s just being a good sport and giving the guy a memory to last a lifetime for willing to step up like that.
Kyrie was barely trying come on. He did a double cross and the dude almost fell on his back
Do you think the Lakers can sign him? 👀
Not bad when the guy is at best 5’6 lol
Better defense than Luka
That being said tho, the best defense in these situations (these situations being, an nba player is gonna obviously clown you, and you know it’s coming), is to just stay put in front of them. They’ll do to you what they need to for a bucket (kyrie’s second score which takes 2 seconds), but if you just stand and don’t bite on the sauce you can hold them off from making you fall lol
yeeah he’s definitely focused on not letting that fan score
He also hand 🤚 held the guy for the last layup
Like obviously Kyrie isn’t trying, but he only got that layup cause he’s over a foot taller than that man 😭
That kid’s bold trash talk led to a once-in-a-lifetime one-on-one against Kyrie, what a core memory
Young fan…dudes like 50 haha
i think he just has whatever the opposite of a baby face is
Old ass face. I have one so I know
If you suffer from OAF, there’s help. Ask your doctor. Side effects include, resting bitch face, your-face-will-get-stuck-like-that face, and death.
Other side effects may include constipation, but nobody will know, cause your face is always like that.
Those were not an old man’s legs shuffling on D.
Like Greg Oden, or Old Face Andre from The Wire
Benjamin Button visage
And he still locked up Kyrie that first possession
And Kyrie hooked him on the layup. I’d be skipping and lunging to call that offensive foul like prime Tony Brothers
Man got cooked by a street vendor, no wonder why the Wolves didnt trade for him
He will tell his grandkids that he forced Kyrie to miss a layup while guarding him
Listen, I’m only saying, but what if I had been guarding Kyrie when he made that game winning 3 on the 7th game of the 2016 finals? Makes you think.
To think the real Linsanity was right there in the stands.
I doubled up against a poker pro, low limit cash game at the local casino. I’ll never forget that hand.
I’d have a video screen playing that clip framed in my home lmao.
Locked him up or did dude just miss?
Cmon kyrie isn’t trying 100%
Bulls should sign him
Just realized, lmaooo
Just a kid
That looks like a 50 year old to you? Lol
I’m 40 years old and Asian, and this dude looks older than me lol.
He’s definitely over 40.
That dude looks old for sure. Dunno about 50 but I’d bet he has kids.
He’s closer to 50 than he is “young fan”
It’s actually Yung Fan, that’s his name
offensive foul on the hook! dude forced a missed shot and a turnover 🤣
I guess he could guard him at 50 yrs old. Damn
50 years young!
Or that knee ain’t right
yeah at 00:34
even Kyrie resorting to off arm shenanigans now, in a fan exhibition
Also a few carries that were so bad even nba refs would call it
Yeah, that hook was vicious even by NBA standards lol
Obviously Kyrie isn’t trying but looks like he traveled, carried and hooked the guy
Also dude is not young, looks 40+
Imagine being the fan reading all the comments here & everybody is just like
“Nah fuck that old pos he aint young!” 😂
And dude is young twenties, I had a coworker who presented as a mid 40’s woman at 22. It was dress and attire, lmao.
I mean it’s a 40+ year old dude who looks to be in pretty good shape and played good defense. I don’t think he’d be offended people think he looks his age.
How do you know for sure tho? To me dude looks like he could be 26 or 48.
Dude kyrie is straight up holding the ball at one point lmao
Yeah, I see this happen too much nowadays in real games
Donovan Mitchell is one of the biggest culprits on his little euros step move
Lamelos career would be over if they called every carry.
Castle does egregious carries too
Ermy well ackshullay
He got him in the beginning. Created so much space. Wish he shot that
that hook is just a vet move
Travel and a hook haha!
Couple carries too
Kyrie traveled
And also the offensive foul when kyrie grabs him
Honestly the guy did a great job, getting one stop and drawing an offensive foul in two possessions against an elite nba player is no joke
(Obviously kyrie isn’t actually trying hard but still impressive)
Alright that’s fun
My favorite genre of video — a professional athlete against a regular Joe. It really shows how insane these guys are.
There was a whole show about this btw. Pros vs Joes.
I remember an episode of that where they had the Joes returning arena football kick offs, but they had no blockers so these poor dudes are catching the ball off the net and then getting obliterated as soon as they turned around. It was brutal to watch.
Lmao that crossover he started with was so damn quick and made him bsck pedal after the first move he was just messing around.
He could have made that dude fall whenever he wanted
Why does this read like AI 😭
Reddit so consistently makes me lose hope…
It’s definitely bc of the em dash lol
I hate that em dashes are associated with AI now because I actually use them fairly often.
That hook was so fucking blatant.
Just the hook? Kyrie managed to triple threat from the top of the key to underneath the basket without taking a single dribble!
Nevermind, he did dribble and apparently I’m blind and deaf.
Is this a joke? This has 5 upvotes so idk, but he clearly dribbled. You can hear the ball bounce off the floor before he hooks.
I’m calling carry bro idgaf if u kyrie
When kyrie isn’t spouting nonsense he seems like a pretty cool dude.
I went to the All Star practice session when it was hosted in the bay last year. Out of all the All Stars, Kyrie was the only one who actually tried to engage with fans. The rest just took their warm up shots like they normally did, meanwhile Kyrie was going into the crowd and inviting kids to give him assists or take shots with him.
That’s mad dope
Guy actually knew how to plant his feet and didn’t stumble or reach.
Solid defense. I love this.
Honestly, got a clean stop after getting shookand then offensive foul.
Maybe that guy can guard Kyrie.
Hell yea
“Young”
Man I really hope he isn’t young because everyone shitting on him saying he looks 50 lol
Pretty sure that’s just his last name.
This is very wholesome. Awesome to see
Offensive foul…dude clamped Kyrie
Carry. Carry. Hook. Carry. Looks like he can guard him.
Dude did well
Two free throws for SGA
Young fan. Might as well be me out there.
Where is the 3rd it’s 1-1
That first cross, I woulda been lost good grief he’s shifty
How is no one talking about how he slowed it up the dribble in the first one, almost moonwalking with the ball, incredibly smooth, and trippy.
Made him miss and then got hooked. 2-0 to the fan!
Love to see players enjoying the Chinese market. No idea why others don’t go as much.
Ummmm he’s not a young fan
I would talk shit to Kyrie too if it means I can guard him for a couple of possessions and getting my ankles broken to space. That’s like once in a lifetime kinda stuff. The guy also did pretty damn good so he wasn’t all talk.
It’s all in good fun.
I hate how he has better defense than Luka
Got away with a hook
Bricked him up on the first one lol
hooked offensive foul
Hands down, man down
2 travels and a carry
he kept kyrie at 50% around the rim. elite defending. analytics are on his side.
Kid talked his talk, Kyrie made him walk the walk, wholesome competitive fun all around
Dudes looks like 40 years old, he ain’t young fan. We Asians can tell
First attempt - travel. Second attempt - offensive foul.
That finger wag $$$
Did Kyrie really have to resort to hooking him to score on that 2nd shot?…lol
Washed. Had to hook to get around a fan!
Top 3 PG when he comes back
Ky had him beat for at least 2-3 of those hesi moves. Dude was frozen
He got a stop 🤷🏾♂️
Ky saved that man on that first crossover lmao
Just made this fan’s day, month, year, whatever. That’s something I’d talk about my entire life lol
Completely forgot he will back next season
hooked, fan should have been on offense too lol. Love Kyrie though lol
Kyrie carried on the first drive, and committed an offensive foul on the second one with the wrap around.
common streetball moves
I wish I was that irrationally confident.
Haha that’s pretty cool, Kyrie seems nice.
🎙️☎️🎚️🚬
Is that Alex from those cool kicks videos?
lol hooked him!
So extra. Weirdos
Nice carry brah
That’s not a young fan that’s strictly dumpling from Youtube
Why does it look like Kyrie is holding a boy band concert in a stadium full of Asian people?
Gotta watch the hips
“Young fan”
Turns out, the random fan was right.
That’s Uncle Drew.
Great sportsmanship
Man of the people
Dude locked Kyrie up. Kyrie had to do an illegal hook to score on him
Kyrie carried about four times. Fan W
young? that dude is 40 in China
that fan was young about 20 years ago
What is the Kyrie Irving world tour
ouuu shi maybe he can
He’s barely trying…
Young fan? Dude is already in his late 40’s
He still looks like he’s putting in only about 20% of max effort. It’s like when you play with a 11 year old with the height and strength difference. Even when you play ‘hard’ you hold back to prevent pushing the kid well across the court.
That is not a young fan.
I mean, Kyrie went 1⁄2. Not bad
Welcome to the Miami Heat
Kyrie Irving is a nazi. I don’t care how much good press you give him.
didn’t realize kyrie is a center
6’2 vs 5’11
The size disadvantage is already a problem and then you go against one of the best ball handler / athlete in his league.
That second contest was actually decent. Kyrie just makes everybody look silly with those handles
When Kyrie wants to dance you better bring the moves
Bro takes 4 steps lmao
That’s pretty good, but I would do so much better.
It’s crazy how much kyrie carries the ball. He’s so overrated
i sat courtside for warmups this year and mason plumlee looked like a greek god 😅
That was a hook lol
