Shaq dunks all over David Robinson (1996 All-Star Game)
If this was 2026, Robinson woulda stepped aside and Shaq would’ve gone for a 360 dunk and missed.
Do NBA fans have the memory of a gold fish or something the discussion around the 2026 all star game was that the new format led to the players actually trying and had good games
After how many years of boring bullshit games? I need 10 more “competitive” all star games at least before I give them the benefit of a doubt.
Format didn’t do shit. Wemby decided to put in effort and everyone had to match. Your goldfish memory is failing you.
Oh ok so you agree that in 2026 the players tried and the person I replied to is wrong. Got it
If this was 2026, Robinson wouldn’t even jump because he would just hold his position and get a charge called on Shaq.
Young Shaq was a force of nature. The Big Man era was so much more fun than the 3-chucking era.
100% agreed
Shaq was UNSTOPPABLE back in the day.
David Robinson honestly put up a decent challenge here but even he got overpowered by Shaq.
His ability to score when locked in is something younger fans have never seen. Not even LeBron was that unstoppable. Entire front lines were assembled to slow him down and he still plowed right through everyone. Shit was incredibly annoying.
“Overpowered” is right but also sells it short somehow, it’s more like Robinson did what he could but physics said no.
Let’s add Shawn Kemp was right there to another force of nature
And people compare dominance of Wemby to this beast
Nasty
This game was in San Antonio. Shaq was robbed of MVP, which went to MJ.
Back when players actually tried on defense in the all star game
What’s number 7?
Id LOVE to have another Shaq enter the league. So fun to watch. And would be interesting to see how teams in this 3 ball era handle a true force in the post
Will 100% from 2 be better than 40% from 3?
This is a bit of an over simplification, but based on 100 shots:
100% from 2 = 100 x 2 = 200 points 40% from 3 = 100 x.4 = 40, 40 x 3 = 120.
So 2s are better if the 100% was possible. 60% from 2 would be equal to 40% from 3.
Shaq in this era? He shooting higher than 60%
There’s hardly anyone in the league big/strong enough to guard him. The only name that immediately comes to mind is Steven Adams due to all the stories I’ve heard about how ridiculously strong he is. A lot of very large, unskilled basketball players would suddenly have a place in the NBA again, just to have bodies to throw at him.
This is a bit of an over simplification
Bruh… you in fact over-complicated some basic 3 vs. 2 math
It was so fun watching this live.
These guys now a days…. dont want any if none of that type of shit in the nba … real basketball right there
O’Neal was an absolute beast.
All star game has lacked dunking since kobe vc tmac era. Sad
what was unique about 90s shaq was he wasnt big like he was in the early 2000s when we were all questioning his conditioning. shaq was strong, nimble on his toes, and fast. his only problem was he only had 2-3 moves
Shaq put up numbers against Ewing, Hakeem, Robinson, and Mutumbo, imagine what he’d do to Jokic and Wemby lol
Shaq would snap Wemby like a twig. Jokic at least has the mass to put up some resistance.
Imagine if Shaq had stayed at that weight
Players move out of the way if LBJ is coming in full steam.
Now imagine Shaq coming down full steam.
No one’s getting in front of him to get a charge. No one. In today’s game, Young Shaq would get 14-16 points just off of fast break.
I always remember his free throw off the backboard All-Star Game dunk that was called off
This guy wouldn’t even be averaging over 12 pts in his prime in the league today, he would be getting blocked by Wemby all the time
Wemby might actually need life altering surgery if he tried to stop Shaq my guy
Wemby was getting frustrated from the physicality of Naz Reid and KAT. Shaq would hospitalize him
