He fails that season to overcome the Magic who now have one of his former teammates and of course the infamous sledge from OP’s post gets leveled at him ‘45 aint 23’. He comes back the next season, now properly in basketball shape, and they set the all time wins record, waltz to the championship and go onto threepeat again. It’s the after-the-fact construction of a narrative to fit a storyline.

The first shot was on target, but clanged off the back. I could be convinced that was an intentional miss. The second shot ran along the rim. No one can convince me a shot like that was intentional.

This happens with a lot of athlete stories - once you dig into the details things don’t line up.

I once heard Thurl Bailey talk about being a rookie being starstruck at seeing Dr. J ,(this part is likely true), and how Dr. J dropped 30 on him, but Thurl got him for 20.
