Michael Jordan showing off the classy 90s defence.
He shouldn’t have been standing there.
Happy Gilmore quotes always get upvotes from me
Just easin the tension baby just easin the tension
“you made a bet. pay the man.”
Double or nothing
Yeah tbh should’ve been FTs for goat
Gotta get those Nikes in the shot
Carmine 6’s?
The adidas deal? Whatever happened there
Whateva happened there?!
God rest their soul
God rest their sole
I can’t tell, I was just on the Air Jordan page and googling all the 89-93 models in white and can’t find one that matches.
Nike should really consider giving him a sneaker deal.
The man entering the frame from above
Air strike.
I believe I can fly I believe I can control the skies
*Transmitting targets every night an day*
*I spread my wings and let fly away*
Chris Mullin is listed at 6’7” man. He’s crouched but the first contact was his foot touching Mullin’s neck.
If I tried to replicate that contact using a small child I’d be facing career ending injuries.
Jordan did it to an adult NBA player and just got up and kept playing.
To be fair, Horace Grant was there to break his fall.
Just for clarity, in your replication attempt, is the small child OK or are you also kicking him in the neck and slapping him “full contact?”
Great question. The implication is that the child is unharmed, but I would be horribly injured by the attempt.
Having said that, the toddler being the injured one is objectively funnier.

He hit everything besides the ball
This is the part that never fails to make me laugh.
He smacked his face like it was a bag of wine at a frat party.
College has changed since I left.
Including Horace Grant’s neck lol.
achieved the #1 objective of defense, stopping the other dude from scoring. can’t argue with results
He could really soar.
12” more vert than Kobe and bigger hands than Kawhi. His mentality was the engine but the guy was a physical freak.
Also had an insanely fast first step, especially in his early career. He would already be exploding past defenders after his first dribble.
Dude did not have a 12” higher vert than Kobe
Google says 38” for Kobe. MJ was part of a UNC study that measured his vertical at nearly 46”….though you have to imagine that he would not have peaked as a leaper during that particular study and very likely jumped higher at some point….would be a hell of a coincidence if his absolute peak just happened to be the day of that study lol Either way, he did not have a 12” higher vertical than Kobe as you rightly say.
I believe i can fly
He should have a nickname that implies his ability to do so.
That’s a good idea. Something like Jumpin’ Jordan?
and when he’s in the air we can call it “fly time”
“flyin’ mike”
I really thought it was AI
Nah, he played for the sixers
ba dum tsss 🥁
Nah this was probably a few years before him.
Chris Mullin’s jaw is sore
This remains the funniest foul of all time. Like you already damn near decapitated him with a knee, nah imma double down and smack the shit out of him too.
Michael: Couldn’t risk the and 1.
My dad played HS basketball in the 80’s and that’s legit how they were coached at all levels. If you’re gonna get whistled for a foul make sure the other player feels it, and don’t fucking let them get the and 1
Hell I played in the 2010s and that’s how I was coached. I couldn’t shoot, dribble, or pass, but I made varsity because I could Laimbeer with the best of them.
Early 2000s here, you’d think I was playing Hockey if someone stepped into the paint 😂
Basketball is still coached this way. If you’re going to get called for a foul, you may as well make the best of it!
The soccer equivalent is “The ball can pass you but never the man”
I didn’t even see the swipe through the face until rewatching after your comment.
I was too focused on seeing if he clean blocked it, you know, foot interference notwithstanding.
If you fouled him, there is no harm in aggressively preventing the and 1
Well it was a red card anyway. What are they going to do? Give him another one?
haha fr, the single minded focus swipe quickly turning into “oh shit I’m fallin!” always makes me laugh
Get your money’s worth.
Bruce bowen on Wally S was funnier
That foul oozes WWE if we’re being honest
It’ll be like if Randy hits you with a RKO , but decides you know what a RKO ain’t enough
He then decided to punt your head off , MJ here just did the inverse
“I didn’t see him foul you, Michael, but I believe you”
That’s not what he says in that clip…
MJ was complaining they missed a double dribble the possession prior. You can go watch it, it was the last game of his career.
Probably called a foul on Mullin there
Two free throws for Shai too…
Has it been proven yet that SGA is not the secret love child of MJ/Celine Dion?
Nah everyone knows Jimmy Butler is his son
Antman is Jimmy’s brother
This just in. Man can have more than one kid
source?
See Calvin Murphy
Glad to see Reddit is still fake hating SGA
glad to see thunder fans are still getting real salty over some harmless jokes
Glad to see people still can’t capitalize sentences. Proper grammar exists you know!
Glad to see people still can’t capitalize sentences. Proper grammar exists, you know!
you forgot a comma
Flagrant 2 and a 5 game suspension
They shot him cause he was too classy
Nah man back in the 90’s this was just a common foul.
Obvious offensive foul.
This guy knows his 90s ball. Kudos.
Clean. All ball
Foul… no two fouls
Look Jackie, people can’t just go flying in the air like that…
He was floating. What is this, ghost ball?!
Horace Grant like “wtf, man!”
Looks clean to me
“Michael, let’s get out there and put our boot on their neck - end this thing”
“I gotchu coach”
One thing I’ve noticed about these cross-era defensive comparisons is that overall team defense has evolved rather than individual defense. For example MJ and Scottie would be elite defensive players in any era but you’ll watch a lot of Bulls games where the other players on that team are insanely lax while defending the perimeter in a way that just wouldn’t fly today.
Yes, I know the 3 was far far less valued then compared to today, but if needed MJ or Scottie can lock the perimeter down and I don’t think I could say the same for the others. Then again I am a casual who’s judging this off of a select few games so anyone who actually saw their run live for themselves could check me on this lol
I think MJ was the one guarding Reggie Miller when playing the Pacers.
Reggie’s career ppg from 1990 to 1998 are between 19 and 24, with a 18.4 low in 1998.
Reggie averaged 17.6 when facing the Bulls so i would say MJ would be a great perimeter defender in today’s NBA.
He also guarded Drex alot in the 92 finals.
4th quarter of game 7 against Indiana in 1998 Jordan (not Pippen as people might think) guarded Reggie through the quarter. Reggie was 0-1 for 0 points in the 4th.
On the other hand, defenses in the 90s were not nearly as stretched out. When I watch full games/ extended footage, I’m always struck by just how many bodies are in the paint. Players sag off to an almost comical degree, yes, but when the ball handler goes to drive the wall is basically already formed - including with teammates, as your two bigs are both fighting for post/ rebounding position.
It’s why Jordan’s ability to jump HIGH was so important - a lot of his shots happen hanging having slashed through his primary defender, running into the wall, and springing up to get a decent look above the mess of bodies still between him and the rim. Those shots don’t make the highlights too much but they were a huge part of his game.
He’d later replace them with more of a post up game, but they never fully went away.
It was the 90’s, most of the plays your point guard would feed your top guy the ball (low post if big, top of the key if not) and the other 8 guys on the floor would generally stand around and wait for a play to be run.
KD was born too late lol he would have cooked. The illegal defense rules were also just lame and contributed to this extremely stagnant style.
KD on the bulls probably 8peat
With Jordan? Maybe even 12. Alone? Zero rings
You weren’t allowed to play a lot of modern defences.
You had to stay within a certain distance of your main defensive assignment.
What Jordan (and eventually the whole league) would do is ISO on one side of the court while the other 4 guys dragged their defenders to the weak side. You’d have the whole side of the court for just you and your defender.
If you tried the same today, 3 guys would stay on the weak-side hedging and the 4th would rotate over to meet you at the rim.
Old guys always talk about how modern defenders aren’t allowed to use their hands anymore, but it was a trade off. The NBA restricted how you could use your hands, but freed up how you could move around and use your feet.
he can literally fly
Michael Jordan could actually float through air bro.
I think it might be in slow motion
Why did that guy foul jordan?
Yea, if you watch the video, it was clearly Mullin moving his head into the feet of Jordan.
Flagrant 2 on Mullin. Bulls get 2 FT and possession-sincerely Tony Brutha and Scott Frosty
Mullin clearly getting into MJ’s landing space. That’s some nasty Zaza type shit.
This was legal guarding technique back then. It’s why the old generation was so much tougher.
Air Jordan for a reason
If you pump fake the bull
You get the horns a kick in your neck and a swipe to the face.
j still got a swipe in is hilarious
Yessir. Just need something with a little less impact, but do this all day. These are veteran moves like it or not.
I can’t tell if you’re joking or not
Not only do you get a flying roundhouse kick to the face, but you also get your shot blocked.
stepping on someone’s throat when they’re knocked down
Stepping on someone’s throat when they’re standing up right
This has such awful AI rescaling I can’t even tell if its a real clip
lmao……..
That man can probably jump on someone’s head off vert
Lmfao never seen this clip! 🤣
Still didn’t flop.
GOAT.
Slop. Am I the only one who hates these AI remakes of old videos..?
That’s insane never seen that one, i was looking at the side of the screen and he came in from the top lol
He was on his list
He would have gotten slaughtered online for this play lmao.
Bruce Bowen learned from the best.
9x All-Defense First Team, DPOY in ‘88, led the league in steals 3 times — yet people still only talk about the scoring. the hands on this man were something else
Real reason Horace went to Orlando
Who’s saying things were clean back then? The joke works if the narrative is the 90s were squeaky clean. Is that the narrative?
I don’t think that’s what OP is saying. It’s not a juxtaposition of two narratives. It’s sarcasm.
That’s a 20 game suspension in today’s NBA 😂😂😂
Look at the hang time, look at the flying motion
It’s so funny how he managed to somehow pause in the air long enough to slap Mullin in the head before he fell down. Like Wile E Coyote when he runs off the cliff and hasn’t realized it yet.
People don’t say 90’s defense was “classy” by the way, they say people beat each other up. For better or worse.
Jordan could jump so high. It was unbelievable.
A legit speccy. Man played the wrong sport.
Haha he was still nah let me swat that
Moronic basketball Reddit scumbags always hating on MJ
A common foul back then. Will be automatic ejection and 10 games suspension if the player shooting is SGA
Am remembering wrong or did MJ really hate Chris Mullin? I thought I remember seeing that somewhere…
I mean, they played together on the Dream Team. MJ couldn’t have hated him as much as Isiah Thomas
Also played together on the 84 gold medal team.
How do you know it’s Chris Mullin? All i see is 14 pixels.
And no, they didn’t had any beef, they were even playing tennis together.
I doubt it, prob just MJ being psycho competitive as usual
wtf are the refs looking at lol
It was probably a no call on Mully. Mullin got fouled on every play and never get any calls
I remember this play. Jordan landed flat on his back and I thought he was dead.
Sent a Precision Airstrike
“a hack is a foul”
Bowenesque
From shining wizard to lariat in one sequence. People really do underappreciate his workrate and work themselves into a shoot.
Death from above!! I mean, Block from above!!!
If you say there’s something on the basketball and they look you get to do that.
That would have killed SGA
Did he get ejected for this?
All ball
Flagrant 3.
On Mullin.
I need Shai to try this in a game
Death from above
Imagine if LeBron took that shot, he would be in a LeComa for months.
How was that a foul against Chicago? Clearly Horace Grant was fouled first (By Jordan, but still).
Reminds me of what Bruce Bowen did to Wally Szczerbiak.
From what I know about Chris Mullin, MJ is lucky he didn’t get his ass kicked
Why has no one brought up that Chris Mullin looks like Michael Meyers in this clip thanks to the compression
“all ball”
I’d love to see the SGA flop with this hit.
To be fair he really wanted to not let him get the shot off. lol from the clip it almost look like he descended from the atmosphere to do that
Where’s the foul?
“This is real basketball”
-👴🏻
The crazy thing is, for the people in here saying “why did he foul Jordan?” I’m not sure if they’re joking or not, there’s a nonzero chance they legitimately think MJ got fouled
No easy buckets.
This is the film that lou dort studied
“pump fake THIS, biiiitttccc.. oh shiiiiiittt.. faaaaccckkkk!!”
“My bad bro didn’t see you there”
Ai Jordan
WNBA would have ejected Caitlin Clark if she were the defender in this clip
Horace Grant called in the air strike. What did you expect MJ to do, be a bad teammate?
Somehow Luka got free throws for this
Now a days this gets him called “dirty”
He paid off the refs it’s fine
Typical defense “mASSterclass” in the 90s
Imagine if someone did this to Clark
No one in the WNBA can jump high enough to kick someone in the head.
They do punch her in the neck while she is fallen on the ground from a previous foul, which is a scum move and ten times worse in my opinion. Some women are so jealous it’s crazy…
