Yeah I don’t get who votes them middle of the pack and then goes on to give a great grade to Ryan fucking Hollins and the Rockets guys. Antonio Daniels is gold, they should be near the top.

Yeah, criminally underrated in this survey. They’re a huge part of what makes continuing to be a Pels fan tolerable. They keep it entertaining and interesting even when the basketball isn’t.

Every time I randomly catch a Pelicans broadcast I am in awe of how good their announces are.

Which is weird because Joel Myers was absolutely terrible on the Raiders broadcasts back in the early 90s.

Keeping it to criticisms of one’s own team’s crew, this is a big part of my frustration with the Thunder booth. I am really trying to learn how basketball works, and this is just not the crew for it.

The homerism also disrupts learning; when a broadcaster only complains about the calls that go against the team (Michael Cage) it teaches you pretty quickly not to trust them.

Michael Cage is also a bingo board of catch phrases which I also personally dislike, but I know people feel differently about that

Honestly, it’s a godsend that Steph and the Warriors were so nice for so long…because we were able to get so many nationally televised games. 

He must have great relationship with previous management and current management to keep the job for so long?

Bob was so much better when we still had Jim Barnett in the booth. Ever since JB left bob goes unchecked complaining about the other team trying to win the game and Azubuike is just not great.

I think losing Jim Barnett was rough, and Kelena was pretty bad coming out of the gate. But he’s gotten a LOT better, especially considering he has to deal with Fitz every night.

As an announcer, Fitz is really competent as far as the nuts and bolts go. He’s never going to get a guy’s name wrong, he has a good pulse in terms of who’s who in the league.

But to your point, the homerism is insane. Fitz cannot ever begin to believe an opposing player is capable of getting hot from deep, that Kerr is getting outcoached on a given night, etc.

I will say, I’ll always have a soft spot for him, bad as he is. Before the Curry years you could count on Fitz to excitedly declare: “And the Warriors cut it to a NINE point deficit!” 😂

Not only because he was great himself but also because he could at least sort of rein in Fitz. Kelenna’s not good at either of those things (although he’s less actively annoying than Fitz is).

Yeah I loved Jim, he made Fitz ok to listen to. Fitz decided he was an expert after Jim left. 

It was an unfortunate end of an era. I grew up on Jim and when he left it felt like something left from the team. The move from Roaracle was similar. There was something really special about those first few Steph playoff years and both of the aforementioned were integral in them, as integral as they were with the We Believe team. I really wish Fitz would come off it, he’s actually a decent listen when he does USA hoops or something similar, and I get being a homer when it’s your job, but he’s just too far gone. I wish we could totally redo our booth at this point amd bring some magic back.

As a Warriors fan I agree. I don’t know who the Sonics and Vegas announcers will be, but I guarantee they will be better.

The joy of being from New York! I don’t think we have one bad coverage team across any of our sports. I mean Burke, Hickey, and Goring are certainly no Mike and Clyde, but they ain’t gonna be at the bottom of a list like this.

They’re unbiased to a point where it can be frustrating as a fan sometimes lol but at the same time that’s what makes them so good, I love that they hold our guys accountable. They give really warm vibes love those two.

Stu is a real one, doesn’t mind critiquing Laker’s players, no blind homerism.

Stu is one of my favorite individual NBA broadcasters for sure (not a Lakers fan). I wish the national broadcasts didn’t get in the way of hearing them so often.

It probably doesn’t help that the Lakers get so many nationally televised games compared to a lot of teams, so the fans from a bunch of teams don’t have an opinion on them.

Personally, I think the Grizzlies announcers are top 3, but I’m very biased. And because we don’t get many nationally televised games, we get to hear them a lot.

Antonio Daniels can be a bit grating

He sounds like the drunk old men you hear at sports bars who clearly don’t really watch nba but just keep spouting the worst bs and takes.

It’s extra annoying because he actually can be a good broadcaster. Every once in a blue moon he’ll broadcast a non-warriors game (he’s done the Olympics and was one during the bubble) and he does a perfectly fine job during those. So he actively chooses to suck during Warriors games.

I think Kelena could be a decent analyst if he had a better play by play go to riff off of.

Yeah they’re about as close to neutral as you can get, very little real homer bias which is pretty nice. They just haven’t had many good moments to commentate as a team and are a little bit corny so the experience of watching them ends up bland. I’d be down to replace Gooden for someone with better analysis skills but Chris is a perfectly fine PBP guy.

not the announcers, but the production team is awful. I was watching a game and they missed multiple free throws/offensive possessions because they were showing replays and ads.

Yeah, I’m not a Lakers fan, but I really like that the announcers get excited both ways. When the visiting team does something cool, the Lakers booth hypes it up.

A contrast might be the Spurs who got a new young announcer a couple of years ago and he mainly sounds sad when the opposition does some crazy stuff. Bill Land was great, though.

100%. Without Paschke they definitely took a step back but they were a perfect duo. I’ve listened to a lot of the groups but I think they should easily be in the middle of the pack.

They’re 10th, not wildly low. The article even says that Stu received universal praise while feedback on Billy Mac was mixed, which is totally fair. I preferred Joel Meyers to him tbh.

The Detroit announcer always makes me think of listening to a radio-baseball announcer for some reason.

I like the Pelicans broadcast so much so I don’t mind watching Pelicans games, those gentlemen are true professionals.

He’s awful. Dude loses his shit over every little thing that happens. People who like him maybe only watch highlights or something but listening to a full game of his incessant yelling is painful.
