he’s also overrated and very overpaid. he shoots a ton of shots at mediocre efficiency because he thinks he’s better than he is. playing for a well coached team with very good roleplayers and being allowed enormous usage for his whole career has warped perception on him. they were 9-2 without him last year in a year he supposedly hard carried. and the celtics have been as good or better without him for basically his entire career; it’s a huge sample size. if the celtics get anything close to a superstar return for him, it’s an absolute fleece, and i think brad stevens knows that. he’s trying to sell high.

also, if they really missed out on giannis squabbling over roleplayers in the trade, that’s a huge miss to me. turning brown and a couple extras into giannis would have been insane work. i’m sad we missed out on that timeline because giannis would be a beautiful fit with them.

I don’t think pointing at a team’s record without a player is particularly useful when it’s such a small sample. Teams can sort of elevate themselves if they know their best player’s absence is relatively temporary. It happened with the Pistons last year too. And it was even better for Boston because that wasn’t just one long stretch of him out, it was him missing games here and there.

sure, in isolation i’d agree. i pointed it out as a recent example because last year was the year in which people perceive him to have carried the hardest, and to highlight that the celtics roleplayers were still very capable of playing well and closing games without him.

my broader point was that, throughout his entire career, advanced stats, on-off numbers, and win-loss records have painted him as far less important to the celtics than most fans seem to think. they consistently play very well when he’s either resting or not playing at all.

they’re trying to sell high because they know he’s not crucial to the team and they might be able to get a bangin return for him right now.

i am indeed very curious to see what he looks like on another team if/when he’s traded! i’m totally open to revising my opinion if he goes to some mediocre team and still looks like a top player.

As long as Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Jayson Tatum are holding our cap space hostage, these are the only kinds of moves we can make.

I can confidently say that we’ve gotten all the championships (1) we can possibly get out of this core, and it’s the perfect time to move on while we can still get some value out of them.

The Jays went from being an elite duo to an untenable one the second the new CBA was agreed upon. They can lead the team to a championship if you surround them with two All Defense Level Guards who are 3 point snipers(Jrue and White), and 7 foot 3 rim protector who can stretch the floor(KP), while having an elite bench of likely future hall of faner Al Horford, the best back up guard in the league (PP), another sniper (hauser), and a few more highly competent bigs for good measure (Kornet and Qeta).

The new CBA has made it impossible to construct a roster like that again. The Celtics dumped the Big 3, they dumped IT, and now it’s time to move on from this core. Keep the low paid overachievers like PP and Qeta.
