It goes both ways. We are for some reason dumping a top 15 guy who recently won a chip and makes 60-65 million a year. But we want your best assets.

I’m telling you this right now and I don’t think most Celtics fans have wrapped their head around it. There is a great chance our new ownership which is backed by PE are pushing Brad to make decisions for financial reasons over basketball reasons. Trying to move brown for Giannis makes sense. Trying to move him for picks does not.

Getting off that massive contract and having a surplus of picks isn’t the worst thing to have. Especially when you already have 1 star player. All you would need to do is use those picks to get the second star in that fits what the team is looking for.

Reroute the picks to a rebuilding team for a player.

Gotta imagine they reroute that capital for another star. With the hope they can keep some of the capital and still get a good 2nd option.

I don’t think it’s that silly. They’d probably be better off just continuing to develop and build.

Clingan in his sophomore year already looked like one of the best rebounders and a top 5 rim protector in the league a good chunk of the season. Excellent screener too and is a threat inside offensively. Can’t teach size and he’s projecting to be one of the best big men in the league for the foreseeable future.

The body of the post explains it.  It isn’t that Clingan is untouchable; it’s that the Blazers do not have a replacement for a starting-level center.  If they trade Clingan as part of the package for Brown, they just trade one roster construction problem for another.

If somehow a deal came together (like a multi-team one) where Blazers were receiving Brown and a roughly equivalent starting center, then of course Clingan could be moved.

It’s all part of negotiation, it could be Brown wants out, but it could also be the Celtics looking around the league and thinking committing 70% of your cap on two players with overlapping skillsets isn’t going to equate to future success.

Team has a lot of deficiencies, and Brown is the most valuable asset the Celtics have to move outside of Tatum. Harsh reality of the tear down last offseason not being a one season thing.

Or the Celtics want to see what they can get to move on from a huge contract. Especially with how meh the rest of the roster is.

Blazers aren’t giving up Camara. He was by far our best defender last year. If he becomes even league average from 3 he would he super important to a deep playoff run.

You jest, but Clingan is gonna be a monster and already was for swathes of the season. Making a win now move and leaving ourselves with Yang Hansen as the only rostered C is organizational malpractice, the Blazers already have to sign Rob as the backup cause there’s not really a center that can replace him on the market (though a S&T of Rob to the Celtics might be the preferred option for everyone involved). So if Don is traded, the team unironically might be worse because there’s no real center left

I don’t think Denver can make an offer and still have a contending team after unless they are trading Murray. If not, a Denver trade for Brown will have them blowing up a solid portion of the starting 5 to match Salaries.

And they don’t have as little leverage as ESPN and verious redditors want to think. They don’t have to trade him at all, and they know that. So they’re not going to take some bad deal.

Clingan is a keeper. Boston would have to overpay for the privilege. 

There’s not enough good centers in the league atm. It’s very hard to get a guy like clingan. Still think Dame/Jrue/JB/Camara and whoever at center would be a very defensive and good team
