MJ is pretty philanthropic too though. It just flies much more under the radar. But he’s contributed to helping low income areas with medical care, education, technology and civil rights causes. And he did not invest in prisons like people were parroting a few years ago, that was some other guy who’s name is also Michael Jordan.

If you’re including Highschool and College stats in GOAT debates then it basically makes it impossible for any international player to ever reach GOAT level. I care a lot more about what they do at the top level than anything in highschool. Especially in the 1970’s

Agree. Kareem is the overall basketball GOAT once you consider all levels. I don’t think anyone is even close to his college accomplishments, and at worst he’s the 3rd best pro player of all time.

I glad someone brought up Bill Russell. The only Celtic I will ever stan for. I used to work like two blocks from the relatively small, given the modern era of college basketball, gymnasium where he played for USF. The city of San Francisco needs to put up a statue there. Long time over due.

A few years ago I bought a graphic novel about the life of Charlie Parker (Chasin’ The Bird, it’s good), and I had the biggest smile on my face when I saw the foreword was from Kareem. Dude is just all over the place doing cool shit.

I love Kareem and feel like he is under-represented in the GOAT conversation, but he did have a large period both during and after his career of being extremely cold, with fans teammates and the next generation. Him and Shaq somewhat notoriously had to work and patch things up. That being said, it seemed like something has clicked for him in the last two decades roughly. He came back to the Lakers to help coach Andrew Bynum, which was an incredible opportunity for Bynum.

In the last 5 years, I think his writings on all things, from basketball to politics to culture has been incredible. I really respect the amount of introspective this man must have to be able to turn around what appeared to be a pretty negative outlook on life. He seems like he would be an absolute treat to have a conversation with.

People will talk of Hakeem’s charity work or Bill’s, but Wilt personally assisted tens of thousands of women in having their quality of life increased.

This doesn’t make KAJ a better center.

But it makes him a great human being.
