That i dont know, but I know you’re right in that its a massive penalty. Which is why they traded the way they did. Im sure they would have loved to have taken Karaban or Reed or somebody that can come in and contribute as a role player but, they just can’t afford to.

the “minuscule salary difference” actually does matter - it’s \(100k and just last season, they were \)200k under the second apron. every dollar counts right now. they have also made very similar moves in the past - moving down in order to free up space to stay under the second apron, but of course you don’t know that, because why would you?

Explain to me then why the Lakers would do this? The Knicks pick is expiring and they’re just like “yea sure Leon, we’ll help you out and give you more time to think and then spend more money on someone we were gonna get anyway? Cause that’s what friends are for?” If the Knicks were struggling to figure out who to pick why did they end up picking no one? 

They’re a win now team trying to stay under the 2nd apron and there was no one they were going to get in that spot that would help them win next year.  The goal was to save money and restock future draft picks which they did.  You can not like the move but acting like they just ran out of time and threw the pick up in a game of hot potato makes no sense.

i trust in leon rose and he has somehow managed to keep dolan in check. i was anti thibs firing not because i didn’t think it could improve the team but because it reeked of Dolan making a dumb move but it turned out perfectly.
