Josh Kroenke reaction to the Denver Nuggets trading the 26th pick
We might enter a new era where superstars can only win one ring before the front office has a lobotomy and is unable to get back.
OKC still making good decisions. They are gonna have some cap casualities most likely this offseason though. IHart and Dort are both on the chopping block.
Dort is definitely out. But between him, Wiggins, and Kendrich Williams being gone, they can resign hart pretty comfortably. They also just drafted a guy who’s 7’3 lol so who knows, they may be able to sign and trade hart next year anyways
they can re-sign hart pretty comfortably.
It doesn’t seem to matter how many times this is explained, people just refuse to believe it.
Their lobotomy might simply be giving Chet a max when they play in the same conference as much-better-French-Chet.
They are making good decisions to remain a great team, but they also have a ton of money invested in a matchup nightmare against their biggest in-conference opponent. That by itself might prevent them from getting back.
Do they have the opportunity to sign much-better-French-Chet?
They just drafted a guy who will solely be tasked with defending Wemby. It might not work but it was literally their only need and they did the most they could to fill it.
You don’t pick a guy that’s 7ft+ to guard Wemby, though. We’ve seen that the most effective build at guarding Victor comes from a SF/PF with a solid base. Wemby licks his chops when the guy guarding him is a slow-footed Gumby.
KAT did an amazing job, I think he’s been the best defender i’ve seen on him. Maybe OG? Idk
only KAT/Embiid (before he fell apart) combine the level of strength & speed at the center position he is but it’s very rare to see a player of his skillset
KAT is a unicorn in a way that could legit play PF with his quickness and strength: yeah, he’d be below average in athleticism, but still good enough to not expose a team. I mean, dude played as a PF for Wolves and made WCF.
That’s not very common from 7’ guys, they are usually either big bodies like Jokic (who can’t keep up with Wemby’s speed) or tall and lanky and thus don’t really have the base to bother Wemby, which is why stronger and shorter players (by still like 6’9” guys) have the most success defending him.
Yeah, the stats don’t back that up at all. KAT/Gobert/Hartenstein/Caruso were his 4 most effective defenders in the playoffs. 3 5s and a freak guard.
It’s playing offense with a traditional 5 against Wemby that’s exceptionally difficult, not defense.
Think this is getting pretty overblown. Being a 7’3 guy in college is not the same as it is in the NBA. For instance, no 3 in the key in NCAA.
Michigan rebounded well as a team, so individual stats aren’t definitive. But Mara only averaged 6.8 rebounds, 3rd on the team. Also only averaged 23 minutes, 4th on the team.
It’s still a great pick, but it’s not fair or reasonable to say he’s a Wemby stopper. Think he’s actually going to be far more effective offensively. But he’s slow on both sides of the ball. He’s gonna get worked to death on defense.
He was the big 10 defensive player of the year.
Like I said, I’m not saying it’ll work but it’s the best shot at finding someone who can defend Wemby without shipping out a ton of picks/players for a proven guy.
I’m just saying I dont think the Thunder took Mara going ‘yeah thats our Victor stopper’. I think he was probably BPA for them regardless, considering Hartenstein has only got 1 year left potentially. Holmgren isn’t a 5 in most lineups. But Mara is still probably only gonna average around 15-20 minutes max. And in those minutes, he’s going to get switched onto guards and ball handlers relentlessly.
Mara is highly likely gonna be a good rim protector and a good body to have for Victor for sure but, again, very big difference between being 7’3 in college versus the NBA.
Mostly, there’s more nuance and more subtleties here than going ‘7’3 man big, stop other big guy’. It’s a disservice to Mara, OKC, and the game to shrink it like that.
E: Not to punch at you specifically. It’s just a hivemind thing.
I understand but tell me, if I told you that you have the 12th pick in the draft and your only need is a guy who can help defend Wemby while also getting the best possibly player available, who would you pick?
I think they probably wanted Yaxel or Morez but at that point Mara was the best possible option.
A tall slow guy is not going to defend Wemby…that’s just not the player type that is going to slow down Wemby. And even if he can do a few minutes against him that aren’t hugely negative minutes that still isnt really offsetting the 40+ million/year sunk into a guy that Wemby is capable of embarassing and actively seeks out opportunities to embarass.
Chet is worth the max
And Chet is a threat against every other team but Wemby, so even his disappearance is over exaggerated. Plus being young, this just creates a hurdle to jump over
There’s no issue with maxing players who have positive value contracts, if the matchup is an issue this year then they can easily move off of him and get good value back
Basically impossible for them to make bad decisions after being gifted 5 first round picks from the Paul George trade lol
Presti could be the best best GM inn the universe but no one can survive the second apron. That’s by design. Ownership dont want expensive teams for endless years. He has 3 max players, good luck keeping your role players. He already had to trade Wiggins for essentially nothing. Dort will go. I Hart will probably go.
Okc should easily be considered the favorites to win coming into the season, they just got better. Sam presti is probably the greatest gm of all time.
Having a steady flow of picks helps a little.
No one told the Cavs winning a championship was the prerequisite.
At least you won one within the last decade. You could be the Clippers or the Pelicans lol
We just played in the conference finals
The lobotomy was the players association allowing the apron system. Most of these teams are suffering because they built contenders with the old system’s rules. Even the ones ahead of the curve like OKC have done everything or close to everything right and will still have to scramble constantly to maintain their team over the next few years
Yup
We have been for some years
Anyone can hit it on the green. How many it takes to get there, and how many to finish it are both the difference
When your team is loaded, OKC is not going to be picking starters at the 12 spot, and nobody is getting a likely starter at the 26 spot. Most players outside the lottery are just long odds on an RNG.
It’s gonna have to change the discourse around ranking all time greats based on ring count. “Well he played during the apron era so it was harder for him to earn rings.”
Best owners spend money and get out the way. James Dolan almost had the comeback of the century for Owners and then he had the open his mouth
It makes me weep on my brand new 2026 championship gear…
Also, Knicks are gonna have to make tough choices immediately.
We were….like the first ones to do this in this era
The apron silliness has a lot to do with it
Spurs, Celtics, and OKC FO’s are just straight taking advantage of people.
Spurs have a shot at a dynasty almost entirely because they aren’t dumb AF. 90% of the teams in this league would fumble our three young players.
Not saying the Spurs FO haven’t played their hand well, but let’s not pretend that your dynasty shot isn’t built primarily off luck.
I don’t know what the odds of yall getting #1 Wemby, #4 Castle, and #2 Harper back to back to back are, but I’m wagering it’s on the smaller side of 1%. Many teams have spent much long in the lottery without anything close to that kind of luck.
The ghost of Calvin Booth lives on
Calvin Booth had a lobotomy on top of a lobotomy, his disasterclass will be studied.
my team is a disaster lmao
Looks like nobody in that room had a clue what just happened nor what is going to happen
i wonder if josh kroenke even knew this was live lol
“Josh, we’re live”
I don’t give a shit
“I know”
“I don’t give a shit”
Yep, this team is fucked next season. Jokic doesn’t deserve this.
Injuries down the stretch prevented a deep playoff run this year. Denver did a good job of putting together a championship quality roster and like 29 other teams it didn’t work out. At this point all we can do is look at rosters for next year and the Nuggets look as good as anyone at this point. We will be fine as long as our starters are mostly healthy.
Injuries down the stretch prevented a deep playoff run this year.
TBF the Wolves are just a really bad matchup for you, too. Maybe AG healthy would’ve changed things, but Gobert and McD did very well on D against Jokic & Murray.
Watson also being out is a way bigger deal than people are giving it credit for especially in combination with AG going down.
Team was way better last year with Westbrook and beating a hot Clippers team and taking champs to 7
The legend.
But yeah I wish they’d kept Russ. Like that Wolves series it felt like nothing was really working, and Russ on the squad feels like it would’ve been a nice x-factor to change things up.
I agree with you. I think they need to shake up the starting line up though. I’ll be downvoted for this but they need to trade Murray to A) hopefully get some assets back, and B) free up some cap space.
Who do you realistically replace him with?
Because we didn’t pick basically a 2nd round pick and traded it for multiple? Lakers legit traded up a pick for cash a few spots ahead.
Well regardless what happens, you’ll always have that NBA title, something I’ve waited 30 years for as a Jazz fan (and will probably never experience).
Jazz will probably win one eventually
Probably when I’m dead 😭
At least yall have a nice airport. Love transferring there.
Honestly it’s possible they win one in like 3-4 years. Got a good young core now
I hope but I’ve been burned before. They had a good young core in the late 2000s with Deron Williams, Boozer, AK and Okur and were just an awful match-up against Gasol and the Lakers - then again had a great younger core with Mitchell and Gobert and that fucking blew up before it felt like it started.
But maybe third time the charm.
What’s this “title” thing you speak of?
Never thought I’d wish the Giannis saga on anyone, but at what point does Jokic need to get off this sinking ship and avoid Bucks irrelevancy for the rest of his career?
Get ready to speak Coloradoese Jaylen
I don’t think he minds. Like he’s competitive but he’s more about providing for his family and town vs always playing more games. It seems like he would rather spend time with his national team.
It’s hilarious, you go into the thread about Windhorst comments on Anthony Edwards today and the majority of this sub is saying “oh these bullshit media talking heads throwing shit at the wall,” or “they really don’t have anything to talk about.”
But come into this thread and you have comments doing the same nonsense speculation and throwing at the wall.
Yea it’s a sports sub. Fans talking about sports is not the same thing as journalist pushing rumors.
Ok but it’s pretty similar when every rumor is picked out of whatever larger piece and given it’s own post
It’s not pushing rumours to ask whether Jokic should leave the Nuggets. It’s pushing rumours to say that he will leave the Nuggets. Two very different statements.
Most people already know that he’s loyal to a fault.
I actually went to college the exact same years as Josh and dude thought he was actually black for like the first couple years in undergrad; he was going round campus wearing grey sweatpants with one leg pulled up with an upside down visor, buying up issues of “The Source” at the student union, and lived with Kareem Rush racking up your garden variety NCAA violations, like buying Rush an Infiniti Q45. Fucking up the Nuggets ain’t shit, I’m just glad Josh no longer thinks he’s a black man.
edit: I should have been clearer, but he dragged the pimp leg during this time too, most of us did. We are all white trash, except he is very rich
incredible lore drop
Josh had a black Ferrari 456M with some chrome Giovannas (possibly some spinners? I can’t remember) back then, in the first couple years on campus. Those who were there will know, then his cousins came in and starting livening up the place as well
This needs to become a new meme format immediately.
Nugglyfe
if it helps, apparently this was just over confusion with the phones as denver needed to call in the pick on behalf of the spurs and the spurs hadn’t confirmed it yet
thats why the room cheers because they got the trade they wanted but he also asks “whats the pick”
oh nice context. I thought Denver FO fumbled lol
Enough to not match a PWat offer?
Asking for a friend
Joker looks like he’s on a new level so I wouldn’t say a disaster.
Trading it to us of all team as well, we’ll take it though
Denver is literally Milwaukee two years later (Altho jokic is never leaving). This is your dame trade season
Wanna take this back now?
Honestly it’s a good move though. Trading the 26th pick who wouldn’t even get meaningful minutes for 3 seconds, after Calvin Booths dumbass gave them out like candy for 2 years straight
Our window is shut and the higher ups don’t give a fuck about this team
I can’t see frustrated kroenke
Cmon man u cant win forever. Do a big thing and pass it on to the utah jazz.
Cmon man u cant win forever.
What I told myself growing up as an Arsenal fan
I don’t think so. You have wildcards like Peyton Watson who had real emergences. You have moved off of large contracts in the past. As long as you have Jokic, retooling is possible.
No but really though. Through jokic anything is possible. Jot that down.
Jokic should ask for a trade. It’s best for all parties involved.
they low key happy with the 1 chip and cementing history, Joker should throw his weight around if he wants to compete
Any team would be happy with a title
Then he should sat he actually wants to stay while telling his agent to keep asking for a trade. Then he should say he never wanted to leave even though everyone knows that’s not true before he ultimately gets traded at least a year after his peak trade value.
Come to Detroit, we have a horse on one of our alt logos
Wtf are you talking about?
This franchise is a shit show being propped up by an all time player.
Don’t worry they’ll get him some help with some sleeper 4th rounders
They passed form selecting old rookies with low ceilings to just 2nd rounders and hope for the best.
Hah yeah I just need to be happy with our ring. Outside of the Gordon trade it’s been moving first round picks for salary dumps in the jokic era. I don’t know what this move is but im just gonna assume it’s to save money.
They got one, and the first one is far and away the most important. The modern NBA isn’t designed to facilitate dynasties. Look at the current Warriors and Bucks. The Celtics may be headed that way too.
Margin for error is nonexistent when the cap is so paralyzing.
Probably best for the league so we don’t have the Lakers just doing a Bayern Munich every season, but this is one of the consequences.
Knicks finally won so now you guys can talk? Lol
Yes. Also, you shouldn’t be talking about flairs when you don’t even bother using one.
I mean it’s not at all but okay bud
I swear some fans just enjoy being pitied and wallowing more than watching basketball
It definitely isn’t. People love freaking out
The ironic part is when espn also over reacts for headlines these same casuals cry about it
Based on this video? They won a title and are a top 5 team of this decade. Typical r/NBA over reactions
Trading him to the Spurs of all teams too. Just malpractice.
Reed is definitely going to be guarding Jokic some in nuggets matchups. He’s got a lot of weight obviously to make it tough on Jokic in the post
I love draft night, some how every single one of these these guys is gonna play. Some center who played 23 minutes a game is the wemby stopper for okc lmao
Typical r/nba over reaction after every single draft night
Every pick is perfect. Every one is a future star. Every trade is amazing.
Most people will be wrong about most things outside the top picks. Happens every year. 😂
coz if you search for a players’ name, all youll see are highlights lol of course every player makes a basket 100% everytime so theres hype
Tonight 7 MVPs were drafted. 22 all stars. And 17 all rookie team members.
Every team gets an A.
Thats what the ringer did apparently. Almost everyone got an A
Are fans supposed to be down on their teams’ prospects?
Yeah
hey as a Lakers fan I have to say I for one watched Carr footage and was mildly underwhelmed. Have major concerns about his defense
Jokic is going to cook the fuck out of him
Probably but it gives the spurs another piece to use against jokic they didn’t have before. Wemby was too skinny for Jokic, now they got serious strength in the post, maybe they even consider doing the ole let wemby roam while tarris guards Jokic trick.
Don’t know if that would actually work, just saying they have another strategic piece now.
It’s just a 26th pick. You could say this about any big man they picked up
Jokic will cook everyone 🥲, but his team will be ass.
Reed going to get cooked he anint got the weight to guard jokic
You do realize that they traded the pick, right? They didn’t draft a guy and then immediately trade him.
Your logic is too much for Reddit folks
What am I even watching? People are reading way too into this
We traded the 26th pick, yes the ass end of the first round, for some second rounders. People in this thread are acting like we traded out of the lottery for terrible contracts or something
I remember feeling this way when the Spurs traded the 8th pick in a bad draft class (ended up being Rob Dillingham)
With all the talk, you would have assumed they traded away prime Curry.
Maybe the Nuggets FO were disappointed because they thought Taris would fall a bit more for them to pick? Idk
Right? Wtf. No audio
Haha I thought my headphone is malfunctioning again. We really can’t conclude anything without the audio.
These comments are hilarious. They act like we are a poverty franchise the last 10 years or something
Seriously. The smallest trade in the nba this season and what do people expect? Mariachi band and Confetti?
The sarcastic clap and bewildered hand gesture
it honestly just kind of looks like hes giving the room shit for clapping for a salary saving move they had to do.
I honestly never understood the clapping after draft picks anyway. Big “clapping when the plane lands” energy
Killing me I had to scroll this far to see this comment, it’s so obvious
Then why does he start clapping first
You get scared so you jump, which causes your gf who is beside you to jump, who then proceeds to freak out and ask, “Why the fuck did you jump!?.”
He caved to the engrained social pressure for a bit and it made him angy
its very obvious a mocking cla
Feel bad for Jokic
me too
Jokic lost weight for nothing.
He lost weight because he thought he wouldn’t have to carry an organization anymore. He was wrong.
shams about to start jokic trade rumors next season after the ant shit falls off
I know you are maybe being sarcastic but I fucking love how you wrote that after watching this video
*windhorst
Wtf I think he said.
Which is hypocritical since he let one of the best GMs in the league go to a rival team. Said rival then eliminated us 2 of the last 3 years because of the moves said GM made. His reaction in this video is effectively Denver fans reactions over the last 3 years to his ownership decisions.
Nepo babies fuck everything up. It’s just too bad they are put in positions that affect other people.
And hired a first time head coach with the personality of a wet napkin for a championship or bust team. Then when that coach shit the bed against a badly injured Wolves team in the first round, decided to retain him
Say what you will but Connelly built the nuggets championship squad, wasn’t extended, and then went on to build their literal nemesis because Kroenke didn’t want to pay him what he was worth. Seems like the definition of stupidity.
This is very interesting as an outsider as Josh Kroenke is loved by Arsenal supporters for his astute leadership, investment and support of the right coaching/management team to deliver the first championship in 20 odd years.
Connelly did a great job building a nuggets team that was unfortunate honestly. MPJ should’ve been an All NBA first team level player without his early back injuries. He’s still recovering from that 5 years later. That being said, he’s a bit on fraud watch for his work with the Timberwolves… his trade for Gobert was one thing but the Julius randle/KAT trade felt very clunky even optimistically. With the rim pressure monster who is Anthony Edwards, I’d think you’d want to target someone who’s a more consistent and/or proven shooter than dubious handle. His work with the Timberwolves has felt really aggressive and not necessarily in a good way. He got handed Ant, KAT, and Jaden who would all grow into extremely core pieces and kinda fumbled into the current situation where you’re trying to get rid of one of your key acquisitions that you gave a huge haul up for plus your other key acquisition became a negative asset relative to the championship player who you traded for him.
over the last 3 years to his ownership decisions
You act like we weren’t over the fucking moon with our free agency last season.
Oh yeah, you can read his lips from the back of his head?
You can’t?
Why is anyone reading into this like he’s freaking out? Everyone in the room is clapping when he starts. He’s very involved in the process, he knows what’s going on with the pick being traded lmao
I could see him getting annoyed at the room clapping for trading down which honoestly could be what happened
lol
It’s r/NBA. Bunch of casuals that want a reason to cry
“Fuck them first round picks!” must run in the family.
Comments in here are outrageous. Trading one quickly depreciating asset for three smaller ones is not malpractice. You don’t have to like the deal but don’t act like there was some world beater available. As a Nuggets fan I have no interest in a rookie backup center that can’t shoot on a guaranteed contract when we have no cap space as it is.
It’s absolutely insane lol. Does this sub not realize before this we had literally zero second round picks for the rest of the decade?
We had this pick, 2028 first round, and 2030 first round as our only draft picks for the rest of the decade. That’s not a joke, that’s how fucked our draft capital was.
Trading #26 for #35 and two future second rounders makes a fuckton of sense, we desparately need draft assets to play with, and the 26th and 35th pick of this draft is not crazy different
Exactly. I can’t stop laughing at people freaking out over nothing
Please show videos of other front offices celebrating a trade like this. I promise not a single one is a contender.
I had to scroll way to fucking far to find a comment like this. Why does this sub feel the need to pick a hyperbolic stance about everything that happens and then repeat the same comment over and over again?
Get back to the arsenal my man
okay now this is crazy. warriors room shows mild disagreement. this is a man confounded
It’s over and that’s alright!
Jokic saved this franchise to not end up in Vancouver.
Prepare yourself for the talking heads and Reddit to push the “trade Jokic” angle, because it’s coming
Can someone explain what happened and what was supposed to happen?
No. Because there’s no audio and everyone just wants to assign their own narrative anyways.
espn announced they traded their pick and they clapped like morons so their owner cussed them out
Dude goes from winning the Premier League with Arsenal to this lol
He is way too involved.
The Nuggets just gave the Spurs a terrifying center—the kind of backup who can handle 15 mpg in the playoffs.
Sarcasm I assume?
Kroenke and Dundin should have a cheap-off
Do you know where the nuggets payroll has ranked the last 5 or so years?
Can someone explain what happened and why the dude isn’t happy?
Tarris is exactly the kind of person we need on our bench and we just gave him to an already stacked rival for peanuts
I see no issue here.
“WHO?”
They couldn’t find a bigger room
We are running out of complaints
Check out the dude slouching in his chair & just the general body language of everyone. I’m so sick of the Kroenkes. Embarrassing
I’m glad this wasn’t us this year
What wasnt you?
Seems like a totally different guy to the self assured professional that was hosting Premier league winner interviews with Arteta.
Weve seen multiple teams do this now this draft. I’m guessing some teams think multiple second rounders across other drafts has more value than the latter first round of this draft.
Couldn’t happen to a better guy, fuck this moron 🤣🤣
Lo que dice Kroenke: “y el café que pedimos, aún no llega?”
NBA is one of the hardest sports to watch. Up there were with golf and tennis. College Basketball is more entertaining
This sub is so weird. Why is everyone hyper reacting to a clip that shows nothing?
