Cameron Carr says “I’m being traded, I’m being traded” as he walks up to the podium to greet Adam Silver after being drafted
The way they handle trades during the draft is so ridiculous. Just adjust to the pending trades and if they end up falling through or something, oh well.
nate ament having to wear a heat hat and then 5 minutes later silver announces that he got traded is so ridiculous
It’s such a bad look for the league. They could really just give them the hat of where they got traded
But then they have to have like 1 or 2 extra of each hat and the league can’t afford that.
What about a plain green hat that can have any team’s logo superimposed onto it on the TV?
NBA draft trades now sponsored by Anthropic
“Why does Cam Carr have six fingers on his hands?”
I know you’re being sarcastic but They actually make a few extra. My buddy used to work for the NBA and he sent me one of the extra draft hats and some left over all star gear a few years back.
Could just give a hat with an NBA logo.
The picture of Rob Lowe wearing the NFL logo hat at the superbowl will always be the funniest version of this that ever has been
It’s not a “bad look”. Stop being dramatic.
My girlfriend said the nba draft was too disorganized after that whole situation and we stopped watching it because of it. So it’s at least kind of a bad look for the nba.
That one was especially ridiculous because everyone has known for a whole day now that Pick 13 was going to the Bucks. Makes no sense to not announce him with Bucks gear.
Technically the trade isn’t through yet so officially he’s actually drafted by the Heat… but it’s for a pending trade that has been pending the whole day so why even bother pulling that shit AFTER the pick happened like it’s new news?
Still. The draft is a show. The league is very much aware of that. They can just do the hat the way that makes the most sense as we understand it in the moment. It’s not like the hat is a binding contract anyways if something happens lol
They could have even had him, IDK, toss the hat aside and then put on the Bucks hat to make it part of the show lol
For me nothing beats Mikal Bridges. His mom worked for us. We drafted him, had him take pictures in a Sixers hat, videod him crying and saying he’s so happy to be playing for his hometown team and that it was always meant to be, and before he sat back down we sent him to the Suns
That has got to be one of the worst draft moments ever.
People will still complain though when players don’t show “loyalty” to a team.
That’s bad enough it’s probably resulted in some sort of curse.
Made me laugh.
I remember that. How could they do that to NBA champion New York Knick Mikal Bridges?
Thank goodness for y’all that Mikal didn’t turn out to be a great two way player that every team could use
Makes the league look like dinosaurs too because people in the crowd are like “oh shit, trade?” and it’s the blockbuster from 24 hours ago.
It’s ridiculous that huge name players have goofy ahh draft day pictures, like Luka in hawks gear
Hey, put some respect that’s Hawks Legend Luka Doncic you’re talking abt
Nah we need that one. A memoir to failure lol
Hawks would still not have a championship even with Luka imo. At least Trae was fun as fuck, fed off the ATL culture, and led us to a conference championship where we had a legit shot against the champs. It sucks that Cam Reddish didn’t work out (the 1st we got in that trade) but honestly I don’t care enough to call the trade a failure. I enjoyed the Trae years as much as I would’ve enjoyed the Luka years
It seldom happened to the Spurs during the Duncan era and I can only think of Kawhi wearing a Pacers cap.
Hasn’t it always been like this?
Yes we complain about it yearly
Luka in a Hawks hat …
This was such a rug pull. I thought the Hornets had traded the 14th pick. Completely backwards way of announcing/handling trades.
I don’t get why they can’t do this in the NBA.
The NHL and NFL are able to handle this just fine. Draft day trades are what makes it the most fun.
In the NBA it’s just awkwardness of the guy getting drafted by a team he’s not playing for.
I think they like the novelty. It’s ridiculous but it’s unique. People still post the picture of Kobe in a Hornets cap. Stupid for sure but I assume it’s been talked about
Should start posting picutres of SGA in Hornets cap too.
Sigh… do we have any other draft day trades that aged horribly or can we start shitting on another franchise instead?
Luka in a Hawks cap comes to mind.
I mean wasn’t the deal with the Lakers that the Hornets agreed to draft and trade Kobe to them? He wasn’t the guy they wanted to draft, Lakers asked the Hornets to draft him. SGA I dont remember the circumstances if it was the same.
Oooo so this is the Hornets strategy! Always be bad then they can have pictures of great players in their hat.
It comes off more as incompetence, somehow every other major league has figured it out lol
First time watching the NBA draft, and man the presentation compared to the NFL is just so god damn bad…
Espn gave all their $ to sas and the punter guy. The interview set looked like a price is right runner up showcase item
😆 facts
like u never even saw people sit in those disappointing ass living room sets while the other person is gloating with their new car and likely winning bid
Didn’t even know it was going on. I think it’s just that basketball is objectively (by number of players on a team) is smaller than the likes of football. In the NBA draft there are 60-ish players drafted, in the NFL it’s 256. In the NBA so many great players become great after developing over time and often don’t shine for the team they were drafted for.
It makes it super annoying looking all of this up after the fact too because all of the official sites have a team’s draft history as “did they own this pick before that draft’s lottery.”
Like, I can go to Basketball Reference, look up our draft history, and Cason Wallace or Ousmane Dieng are nowhere to be found because they were drafted with a different hat on.
I went to bed last night thinking mavs drafted noa at 30.
Woke up this morning to see that the mavs in fact got the spainard.
Lukainahawkshat.png [derogatory]
a hawk what now???
cmon, everybody poops
well apart from women
Yeah if they fall through and the player has his photos with the wrong drafting team every once in awhile, that’s better than it happening literally every single time
Exactly, how often has that ever happened? If 99⁄100 times the guy drafted is getting traded and the deal sticks, it would mean more having them with their actual teams hat.
If the deal falls through, then something will probably get worked out eventually because clearly the team who drafted that player didn’t draft the player, they chose him because the team they were trading to wanted to pick him.
Eli Manning with a Chargers jersey but half the picks in a two round draft every year.
They did a good job cutting through the bullshit with the lottery, please handle this next. It’s all nonsense. The NFL does the draft after free agency but the NHL is 99% the same calendar.
It used to only be teams that couldn’t trade their pick in consecutive years. They’d wait until 5 seconds after the pick. Last night was stupid.
The dude is getting cheered by a home Knicks crowd that won the championship last week lol
The only other draft I watch is the NFL, and when picks get traded there, they announce the pick from the receiving team + have the guy put on the right gear. Not sure why it’s so difficult here
to their credit they were the fastest (for their standards) ive ever seen them at updating trade info during the broadcast
maybe in a couple years they can get to the level youre mentioning
I think because there are more rounds in NFL draft, the later rounds especially become almost formulaic. We value 232 pick at \(x and 105 at \)y. We have a $z grade on John Smith. NBA has more complicated tax and salary provisions, fully guaranteed contracts and fewer roster spots which all mean means more scrutiny and complexities on any specific deal.
NBA is so bad at fixing the obviously fixable things
They’re good at fixing other things they shouldn’t fix though lol
it was extra dumb when the analysts were talking about how knicks pick sergio could fit next to luka right after telling us 24th was traded
To be fair, only one analyst talked about that. I don’t know why the others did not interrupt him.
Were you there when CWebb got traded?!
The fact they have the hat and graphic and talk about them being on a team, all when they are traded is insane. Just swap it like the NFL does and handle it logically. How they do it presently is beyond stupid.
100% agree. They rob these kids of a moment they dream and work for their whole life. They want to be proud and excited to put that draft cap on - instead, they get to throw a cap on of a team they may never play for, and probably had no or little interest in them.
Free agency and trade dates should be before the draft.
They know what they’re signing up for when they’re training their whole lives for the NBA. I don’t get why he takes it so personally. Could be a blessing in disguise being able to learn from the players like Lebron and Luka.
forreal. the amount it would fall through would be magnitudes less than the current type of situation too
They had the Heat pick for the Bucks and then stopped talking for a short bit. The tracker in the bottom said “Hornets pick is in”. Adam Silver comes up to the podium and says “We have a trade to announce”
As a Hornets fan my heart skipped a beat. Then the motherfucker announces the Heat Bucks trade while standing there with the Hornets logo in the background.
What the hell kind of way to announce something is that?
The whole justification of “but the league year hasn’t started yet!!” is so weak because just have the league year start the day of the draft?
Shit…back in the days of pre-social media and leaks, David Stern would literally come out to the podium and say “We have a trade to announce!”, then break the trade news himself right there in the middle of the draft.
That was waaaaay more fun, because for a few seconds, EVERYONE was speculating on who was involved in the trade. Everybody found out at the same time. Players, fans, and media. It was fun.
Perfect example right here. Listen to the crowd just hanging on every word…this was peak off-season drama:
https://youtu.be/sD-L-Ojf__w?is=GElhm6M-Q7L2G-4q
Super fun times.
Right after democracy dying and conspiracy theories melting people brains, this is the third worst consequence of social media.
I used to watch the draft. It was exciting, it was the only way to know right away. It was suspenseful. Now it’s just weak photo ops and bad interviews with too many talking heads.
the interviews lol… asking players parents how much it means to them? they always have the same answer. some lucked into their money ticket, some are just proud. they all say the same thing
they give them such leading questions so nobody can even fuck up and say too much anymore
Same. I found out after the fact that there were three feeds and the ABC one was what you described. idk if the other ones actually did good old analysis and highlights but that is what I hoped for. I ended up watching two picks last night and moving on because it wasn’t for me.
They should do that with horn sounds and flashing red lights.
I think they should play the noises and flash the lights like in who wants to be a millionaire
Play the “wheel of trades” who knows where he ends up
Ya that’s kind of how they do it in hockey. Bettman will come up to the mic while the boos rain down and he usually does the whole “we have a trade to announce so you wanna listen guys” type of announcement. Then everyone cheers then goes back to booing him.
Now we got Shams tweeting “I have a strong feeling that the next pick will almost certainly be a Wolverine” and ESPN’s panel on stage is refreshing their timeline waiting for Shams to tweet
This 10000%. Great times
Bring this back!
If the nfl can do trades in 5 seconds then the nba is a joke
5 seconds is too short to show a Draft Kings ad
Did the NFL stop partnering with DraftKings or something??
Are you suggesting the NFL doesn’t run ads? What the fuck? Reddit took crazy pills this morning.
Because the NBA is sadly an inferior product compared to the NFL.
I think it’s because they aren’t official yet
But they can be. The NBA is antiquated
They’re wearing the wrong hat anyway! The hat doesn’t actually mean anything!
I wouldn’t go down the road of listing the things that the NFL does better than the NBA because it’ll take a very long time
Shams was awful on tv tonight, per usual
Fumbling on his words, adderalled out
nipples protruding through his shirt
Very very disrespectful
He should’ve stopped at one hard nipple, just out of respect.
If you’ve ever seen the clip of Barney Frank that Trump was talking about, he wasn’t even the slightest bit wrong lmao
I wonder what it’s like to peak so early into your on TV career? He’ll always be chasing that albatross
Woj bombed his mental.
headlights were on
new york nips
Disgusting!
Same stylist as Ariana Grande
Wtf. How do people notice that?
Big if true
I need this comment to get to the top so Shams will see it and then feel compelled to respond to it on ESPN while pretending he doesn’t care what people think.
He probably hasn’t slept in a couple days
He has a really hard time speaking fluidly. I always wonder how he ended up on tv.
Because they weren’t hired to be on TV but need to now to help justify their insane contract.
They throw Shefter on TV too and he’s terrible (but got a little better with time)
The best part of watching on ABC was we didn’t see Shams not one time
Nba is a joke when it comes to the draft. Tonight was especially bad with ppl fumbling all over themselves and sham failing trade news. Also the stupid family interviews noone cares about that shit lol
“So tell us (insert player’s) mom, do you think he’s a good person?”
“Yep he’s a great person, i love him and i am so proud of him.”
“Aww what a sweet moment, back to you guys”
Don’t forget Ament’s mum being asked questions about her surviving the Rwandan genocide
Finally, some good fucking journalism
What?!
was the second i turn mute on for the rest of the night
“hey we know this is one of the greatest nights of your life but do you mind bring up the worst thing that ever happened to you and your family 2 minutes after you got to enjoy that high?”
was fucking worse than the year the NFL decided to only talk about every prospect’s dead parents
Also, everyone’s parent holding the mic 3 meters from their mouth so we can barely hear what they’re saying.
“Your mom has cancer, tell me how you feel about that?”
“Mom, how do you feel about your cancer and son making it to the nba?”
Can we just get highlights of the fucking player?? I wanna see a little snippet of what these guys bring to the court not that their mom or brother has fucking cancer
I actually enjoyed the second half of the first round more because those players and their families weren’t getting interviews, so we just got basketball analysis of the pick
Americans have always loved drama, its one of the worst things about our media lol everything has its drama amplified by a 1000% and if there is no drama they’ll make some.
The draft wasn’t always this way. This is a recent
The same questions and the same answers over and over. Telecasts gotta stop trying to make every single moment bigger than it is for everyone.
Dont get me started on the what was it 30min spike Lee interview?
It’s funny because there were a few times the responses the family gave could have led to some interesting follow-up questions, but they would just breeze by it to hit the beats. There’s more meat on the bone so to speak.
They were trying to do too much. Just announce the trades, picks, and do the interviews after.
That Boozer interview took up way too much time
So did the spike Lee one which was cringe as hell to listen to
Except once the picks are announced all the viewers would leave and the advertisers get upset.
Shams is such shit. For how easy is his job is, he is horrifyingly bad. They feed him information that he has to just read and he fails so bad at that simple task.
Female interviewer asking said player how it feels to be drafted…
Player: “man it feels so good man. I just can’t believe it man.”
Respect Lisa Salters. But yeah she wasn’t getting anything particularly interesting. Things oddly felt less naturally emotional than usual
Another ESPN fail.
It’s as much their moment of a lifetime as it is our entertainment though. I’m sure they love all having their moment…
It’s so stupid. Pretty clear if you think about it- back in the day you’d have player comps, strengths, weaknesses, highlight tapes, etc. Probably took hours to compile and employees. Now it’s just sit down with the parents on the couch, put up a baby picture. Costs way less to set up and takes way less overhead.
I wonder if these guys get thrown through a loop by things like this.
Gotta imagine the NBA and their agents are letting them know this happens ahead of time and you’d see it if they were fans too before the draft
I do think it has to be lame for them knowing they are wearing the wrong hat and posing in front of the wrong team things
I remember seeing some videos on draft night, it looks like they get a call from their agent a bit before the tweet/announcement.
It seems like it’s like maybe a minute or two before so not much time to digest though
The trade was first reported maybe around midnight on Monday IIRC. It had a lot of moving parts (Giannis and another player to the Heat in exchange for 4 players and 4 draft picks or swaps), but it explicitly included the #13 pick in the 2026 draft. So although the deal was subject to finalization, this was not at all a surprise to Carr or the pick.
https://www.nba.com/news/reports-heat-acquire-giannis-antetokounmpo-in-blockbuster-deal
So this 21-yr-old been in the NBA for about 2 minutes when it was announced that he’d been “traded.” Although it wasn’t a trade of him personally, like in the usual sense, but that’s a lot to take in in an already surreal moment. That’s my guess, anyway.
This guy got drafted by the Knicks and traded to the Lakers. Idk what Bucks Heat have to do with it.
Also the Giannis trade can only be finalised on July 6th, untill then its technically not through yet.
EDIT: the trade cannot be finalised untill July 6th, because of first apron restrictions.
Imagine if that trade needs unwound. Players already picked. That would be crazy
I feel like anything beyond 5 they prolly dont care which team anymore. Just happy to get drafted.
Unless it’s a huge fall
he fell in the draft so he definitely feeling some type of way here
I mean he got the Lakers and will probably get decent play time they need depth
Yeah if I was drafted by either the Knicks or the Lakers I’d be happy. And in this case technically he can say he was drafted by BOTH! :)
I worked with someone who was friends with Mikal Bridges when he was drafted and was told he was really upset when the sixers traded him.
But isn’t he from Philadelphia?
Yeah him and his family were sixers fans
Yep his mom was super emotional about him being able to play in Philly and then BAM traded.
yeah he’s just processing all the emotions in real time: falling in the draft, think he’s getting drafted by the champion Knicks, probably just got the call right before the announcement, now he’s going to the Lakers
karim lopez interviewed w/ shump and some others and didn’t know he’d been traded
I mean the trade was announced at midnight, unless Carr and his whole team went into a full media blackout for the day leading up to the draft, they knew this was coming
NBA draft trade announcements were always bad but tonight felt worse than usual. They really just need to change the graphics and commentary to whichever team is going to actually get the player. Pretending like we don’t knows about the trade until Adam Silver announces it is just stupid
tonight felt worse than usual
Because Charania is a fucking hack who cant do the basic requirements of his job on one of the few nights out of the year he needs to.
dude couldn’t figure out trades a fucking hour after they happen
real sharp drop off from Woj knowing the trade 5 minutes beforehand and still being able to spoiled the pick on twitter a minute after finding that out.
Shams said “they are trading pick 16 for 2 seconds” had the whole world confused.
Absolute hack. Unprofessional.
Once a Knick, always a Knick. 💙🧡
Dolan already has his face loaded into the ban list hard drive.
Shams makes me miss Woj’s ability to actually anunciate well.
What, 3 separate tweets trying to explain the Koa Peat trade wasn’t good enough for you?
Woj can spell annunciate correctly too
Probably also knows the difference between annunciate and enunciate
Woj was not a good speaker either lol
Yeah he was not good on TV
WELCOME TO LA BUBBA
WOMEN, WEED, and WEATHER 💃🏽🍃🏝️
TROPHIES AND RINGS 🏆💍
HOES. IN DIFFERENT AREA CODES
Bro win-win for him. You either go the Lakers or Knicks.
Right. You’re playing with the all time great lebron and luka
LeBron is headed to Miami.
He left because they hid his cookies. Why would he return 😂
Cookies are back on the menu!
To find the cookies
Not like they sent him to the boonies he’ll be on the Lakers.
what happened?
He was traded by the knicks
Moving from Knicks East to Knicks West
Could someone ElI5 the situation? Followed NBA my whole life but the draft and these pick trades I never picked up.
I’m not the most knowledgeable about the details, but on draft night teams are constantly making trades to swap draft positions and rights. In this specific instance we see the “Knicks” select Carr 24th, but in reality this pick was already traded earlier in the night to the Lakers for the 25th pick. This means the 24th pick is actually the Lakers pick and the 25th pick is the Knicks pick.
Where all the confusion comes in is that everybody knew this ahead of time except the NBA. They still presented it like the Knicks were selecting at 24 and the Lakers were selecting at 25 even though everybody else knew these picks were swapped, and then the NBA announces the draft swap an hour later.
It’s just very confusing to do this whole show where they walk up and wear the hat of the team that drafted them when it isn’t actually correct half the time
What a roller coaster of emotions for him
lobster buttery either way
This whole thing was a shit show
When is the league gonna ease up on the trade shit ? So many “homegrown” stars always rocking the wrong hats cuz of it. It’s ugly
That’s a welcome to the NBA moment for sure
I mean give some respect to the hustle - I couldn’t ball my way past a middle school gym teacher - the talent and/or work ethic it takes to get to this level alone makes this a disrespectful part of the process.
It’s just business.
Why are Redditors throwing temper tantrums that they wear the hat of the team that picked them. Like yeah it’s kinda dumb but yall are treating it like genocide it affects no one
Knicks legend
Shams sucks
They have to fix draft night trades. The NFL does it just fine.
LA
He already circled the Knicks on the schedule 📅
Welcome to the NBA kid
It looks like he’s saying “I appreciate it”
Dude is the next Shams.
When the NBA goes full bore on Draft reform with the next CBA I sincerely hope Silver will take the opportunity to fix the league calendar so this kind of stuff doesn’t happen anymore.-
Not Slytherin, not Slytherin
“I appreciate it”
