The Giannis trade saga is overshadowing the fact that this could be our first look at how a rebuild looks with the new draft lottery rules
Before when superstars requested trades, the expected package was pretty much the same; young guys, picks and big salaries to match. Any decent roles guys on the team would be shipped out for assets and the team would be really bad for a few years in hopes of getting a high lottery pick.
But now with those new draft lottery rules everything’s flipped. You can’t tank anymore as that gets punished and you also don’t want to be an immediate playoff team because you want a high lottery pick to properly start over.
So what do you prioritize now? Do you make moves to get some young guys but also decent roles players to be in “No Man’s Land” to get the highest odds for the #1 pick, or do you do the classic tank method?
Will be interesting to see what Milwaukee, and future teams decide to do now
