He averaged 14, 4 and 4 post all star break this last season. His confidence improved, he defense got better since he added muscle, and his midrange jumpshot improved a ton. He lowkey might be a MIP candidate if he finds a three point jumpshot. He lowkey might be the best defender on the Jazz, so if he finds a 3, then people better be prepared for the MIP campaign

He was in the same situation the year before and he averaged 5.⁶⁄₂.⁶⁄₁ on 34/28/75 splits post all star break. Compared to 14/4/4 on 46/19/74 splits this year.

He still might not be good yet but he has at least shown massive improvement from the year before.

I think his post all star break stats this recent season should be more respected as his post all star break stats in his rookie season were 5, 2, and 1 with 34 percent from the field and 28 percent from three

He’s improved a ton from year 1 to year 2, so another leap from Cody by getting a consistent jumpshot can easily boost him into MIP conversations next season

Yea he looked like was finally coming together a little but we’ll have to wait for real meaningful basketball. Those last 2 months in NBA now don’t tell you much with tanking teams playing for nothing. I got fooled by those stats many years ago with young prospects lol. Then next year they back to who they were first months of actual meaningful basketball. Anyone can stat pad in today’s NBA when not playing to win/ playing the right way IMO.

Peterson is a solid 2 way player. It’s why I like him way more than AJ. He’s got 10x the defensive instincts. AJ 6-9 with 40 vert and blocks like no shots at all and he looks lost on defense half the time

Ya, I’d suggest he almost as bad as Acuff on defending the screen. He’s actually half way decent on ball 1-1 defense. But the moment he’s off ball he’s terrible. And if i can see that, it must be really bad because i don’t see bad defense very well.

If you look at scouting reports they all say the same thing: hes got the tools to be a good defender but hes only ever shown gambling tendencies.

Idk what you see off ball, I see a guy who gets destroyed when trying to navigate screens.

Draft folk view Peterson as a 2 way player. Because he is. And he has shown it on film. He is not incredible and he’s not “terrible” as you describe it.

Bailey can block shots but he’s bad at 1 on 1 and moving side to side for defense. Hes never gonna be a great perimeter defender. I used to rate wingspan more til I seen Brunson getting his shot off vs 8 foot wingspan Wemby

The Utah basketball fit is much better than Washington. I get the location isn’t everyone’s favorite but Washington hasn’t had a successful draft pick since Bradley Beal. Just accept Utah and have basketball success right away, and most likely playoffs in year 1.

What defines “successful”? They have drafted quite a few good players over the past three years (new GM took over in 2023), their careers are just starting after all. All three of the top 3 guys will have basketball success right away in my opinion, and who knows if any of them make the playoffs in year one.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Utah trade Lauri to Pistons to clear some of the logjam. I do think Peterson fits with either team, but AJ fits better with Utah. A big lineup of George-Bailey-AJ-JJJ-Walker would be good
