How is Ware “potential” when he had like 6 weeks as a starter last year where he was dominant? He’s just stuck behind Bam in the rotation. Clippers need a big and all that’s available at #5 are guards. I’m a Ware true believer, but there’s a reason he did not stay in the starter position. Just look at the quotes on him from Spo. He has as many questions about him as any of the high lottery picks do, a motivation problem is not something to just sweep under the rug. I dont necessarily agree with the approach, but swapping Kawhi+5 for Brown+¹¹⁄₁₃ allows them to continue competing the next couple of years while they do not own their own picks while still giving them a swing at a lottery level talent that they likely would not otherwise get in the foreseeable future. I would presume any Kawhi trade likely also involves a young player so that helps close that gap even more.
