Durant On Leaving OKC: “It was a basketball decision but I knocked down the not giving a fuck ladder with that too… I thought that was just a no brainer. I would do that shit a million times.”
I still can’t believe those mfs were up 3-1 against a 73 win Warriors team
just doesn’t feel real how we were that good and only made the finals one time
And you made the finals at the raw-est form of the team.
Harden was the secret sauce
Maybe, but that KD-Russ team had a few injury misfortunes as well.
2013 where the team won 60, but Russ got injured in the playoffs sucked, in 2014 Ibaka didn’t play the first two games against the spurs(still likely wouldn’t have matter) and then 2015 KD was injured all season.
Obligatory fuck pat bev
FUCK pat bev
The 2016 run was the only healthy run we had after 2012. And we were 1 win from the finals against the best regular season team in league history
I wonder what happens if Westbrook was traded instead of Harden
KD loses his virginity after a Hawks away game
This is what Luke Kornet tried to warn us about
I truly think they win a chip. Harden would have been a pass first pg. That would have no problem getting his own. Exactly what unlocks the best kd possible.
and they would have gotten WAY more for westbrook if they trade him then instead of harden.
Danny Ainge wanted Westbrook so fuckin bad. The timing doesn’t work, by like half a year, but maybe Danny could have gotten the Nets deal done sooner.
Probably not, but it’s a pretty fun what if.
KD also won multiple scoring titles with Russ as his PG
Harden doesn’t become a pass first player ever and never transitions to point without Dan tony
People underestimate how much of a basketball terrorist Brooks was as a coach. Billy didnt change much either
We literally ran pnr into iso every single play. KDs assessment of why the team sucked is pretty much spot on, team had no skilled two way players and ran no offense. As soon as they stopped having steph guard russ it was over
Starting Perk in the finals was criminal. He was mismatched so bad.
Presti deciding after that series to not amnesty his ass and pay Harden 4m is def a generational blunder
Huh? He was already Houstons PG before Dantoni. Just because they weren’t totally heliocentric doesnt mean he wasnt the PG. He avg 7.5 assists last yr with McHale
Russ still wins an MVP no matter what team he goes to imo, OKC probably wins at least one title with KD and Harden + the haul they get from trading Russ.
they would’ve gotten CP3 I think
an actual high IQ floor general who doesn’t play like a crackhead like Westbrook is what OKC needed
Ask how many people thought a KD/Russ/Harden/Ibaka core would become repeat visitors to the NBA Finals in the 2010’s.
I think the harden trade was a critical learning moment for OKC ownership.
On paper the decision was defensible. Harden and Westbrook filled a similar role on the roster but Westbrook was getting more play time. Big post players were meta and the team wanted a Tyson Chandler type to help defend against guys like pau gasol, Tim Duncan, and bosh/leBron in Miami. Harden was good but redundant, and Daryl Morey offered harden enough that OKC would have to go into second apron for several years. That would completely wreck their ability to get a big to anchor the defense. The TV deals a year later wildly changed the math though. Then Golden State ushered in a smaller lineup era and big post players became less prevalent. The two things that seemingly drove their decision with harden suddenly weren’t problems.
Presti and the ownership (from my perspective looking at it from outside the organization obviously) had to learn to work together better and be more mindful of each other’s concerns. I’m not sure the 2012 front office could pull off the things it did to build this current lineup without those lessons.
They could have amnestied Perk, and had it all, but it would have been millions more expensive. I can’t find it in myself to find sympathy for, nor believe a fucking word from, the dude who lied to Seattle and skipped town.
No shade to Thunder fans.
Even as a fan I don’t like how that went down. It was deceptive and cruel to sonics fans and they deserve a team.
Obviously hindsight is 20⁄20, but I still maintain the decision wasn’t strictly monetary. Presti has a very definite type of player for the team, in terms of guys like Westbrook and SGA who are all about ball and family first and most of the current roster and chemistry reflect that.
This is no shade to Harden, because if had that money when I was 20 I would have definitely partied my way out of the league, but as someone involved in the club and nightlife scene around that time it was well-known he was going to clubs underage and partying- I genuinely think that played some part in Presti’s decision.
The West was unreal.
bad injury luck too, like in 2015 kd was injured like all year and we missed the playoffs cause of a double pump game winning 3 by anthony davis. A first round series against golden state would’ve been an amazing series to watch.
2013 or 14 Westbrook also got injured and I think even Ibaka missed a couple playoff games here and there too.
2010 - lose to nba champ lakers
2011 - lose to nba champ mavs
2012 - lose to nba champ heat
2013 - westbrook injuried by pat bev in playoffs
2014 - lose to nba champ beautiful game spurs
2015 - durant misses most of season, westbrook misses time, tie for 8 seed miss playoffs due to tiebreaker
2016 - blow 3-1 lead to 73-9 warriors
really good run against monster competition and some injuries. just never broke all the way through
Fuck Patrick Beverley, I know he’s rehabbed his image in this sub but fuck him all the same.
What do you mean rehabbed? There’s no rehab for Pat Bev. He just choked out his sister like half a year ago. He has always been a piece of shit.
Ibaka was also out for a crucial game against the Spurs in 2014
2015 was worse than that. Early in the season, so many guys were injured that the team had to use an emergency clause to sign Sebastian Telfair to play NBA minutes. Perry Jones III was getting starter minutes. Serge Ibaka was the best healthy player on the team for something like two months.
That tiebreaker? A buzzer beating 3 point shot from Anthony Davis, the only 3 point shot he hit that entire season and the third he had hit in his career up to that point.
One year KD with the broken foot, different year Russ had his knee torn by Pat Bev. 2016 was their year to get back to the finals.
People forget our injury luck was atrocious the three years after the Finals run too. 2013 Pat Bev took out Russ’s knee right before playoffs. 2014 Serge and Russ battled injuries but made it to the WCF against the eventual champs Spurs. 2015 we missed playoffs after KD missed most of the season with the Jones fracture. 2016 was our first healthy run since 2012 but just choked at the worst time against a 73 win team
Pat Bev was a bitch to play against. Russ always had good reason to hate him, he was always trying some dirty shit
Choking was keeping Roberson on the team who couldn’t buy a bucket on his life for mid level defense.
That’s why it shouldn’t be a given that the Thunder will be back with SGA. As we saw this year, anything can happen in the Western Conference and any team can stop you. Same with the Knicks in the East
I think this is why last year was cathartic for a lot of Thunder fans. They got over the hump and at least we can say that we saw the Thunder win once in our lifetimes. Anything else on top is gravy really
Yeah the way KD left yall was heartbreaking (even if it benefited my team) I just felt awful for the franchise.
100% and our fans were pretty bad this year in that regard.
Spurs need to take note.
Yeah, although I say that OKC has a much better chance of winning again than the Knicks for sure.
And if he trusted Presti, thunder could’ve run it back and went to the finals the following year
That’s why when I seepeople say that wem will be back or SGA will be back. Shit, they may never return. That’s just how it is. Look at Giannis, Jokic etc.
I said this about San Antonio as well. This could easily be early 90s Orlando Magic. Young guns about to rule the league. Then they never get back. Shaq leaves and that’s all. KD and the Thunder never got back.
It’s not hate to say the Wemby Spurs may have blown their only opportunity. Shit is rare.
Lebron and the Cavs never got back. (until his 2nd stint)
Honestly think yall win in 2014 if the Spurs won in 2013
I mean they had an insanely good team, they bounced the 67 win spurs with a 40-1 home record in 6 games in the second round(that spurs team was essentially just the 2014 championship team 2 years older + lamarcus aldridge, so an insanely stacked team). Turns out having 2 mvps in their prime on the same team will make that team pretty good.
Acting like 2 years didn’t leave Parker and Ginobili as washed lol
Kawhi also got better though
2017 was absolutely a title contender. We were robbed of a juggernaut in the making.
Sure, but it’s not the same as that 2014 team.
It’s the 2014 team but take off a couple players, add some players, improve some players, so it’s basically the exact same team! Duh
Theseus in shambles
It’s crazy to think the 73 win Warriors won only six more games than the Spurs that regular season.
They won 73 because the Spurs were only a few games back most of the year, so they had to keep pushing. But when you get that close to the record you have to keep pushing.
Durant isn’t the closer everyone thinks he is, straight up
Despite their lack of spacing, net rating and such thought insanely high of that OKC team
Iirc they struggled in close games that year, and weren’t always locked in like the Spurs and Warriors that year. Also their offense was a lot of my turn your turn with Westbrook and KD and that could stagnate.
It had to be your turn, my turn offense. The starters lineup around KD & Russ were defensive minded and the two best players off the bench were Enes Freedom and Dion Waiters.
The 2016 Thunder are one of my favorite teams because they were this Frankenstein group that went up against the two top juggernauts of the West .
They were one Klay Thompson Anime Protagonist Game™️ away too
Could’ve won too if KD didn’t put up some stinkers.
Fitting finals loss tbh
They had a very strong team
I knocked down the not giving a fuck ladder with that too
Having multiple burner accounts to defend yourself is the exact opposite of not giving a fuck.
Woah woah woah that was getoffmydickerson /s
Let’s not forget also this guy left the Warriors because he gave so much of a fuck that people were calling him a bus rider not a bus driver.
And has proven them right ever since
being a super team leader actually takes leadership qualities. Lebron was able to manage personalities bc hes a leader Durant cant its why he was never the undisputed number one on championship caliber squad. Even in OKC he was the number 1 but it was more a partnership with Westbrook who could rally guys
The cognitive dissonance is real
Durant is one of the all time adult babies. I liked that guy when he came into the league but not only has he shown to be just a Mercenary at best but he has no real legacy. He’s in his Gary Payton the later years time in his career now.
Didn’t he call his agent crying about ruining his life aftee the reactions to him joining GSW 🤷🏻♂️
Quote from his agent in a 2017 story:
“We were all messed up on jet lag,” Kleiman says, turning to me, “and I was up at 6 a.m. and he calls me and says, ‘Yo, are you up?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, what’s up?’ And he’s like [yelling], ‘Why the fuck did you let me do this to my life?’
The fact that KD was apparently oblivious to the possibility of a very predictable backlash is so dumbfounding to me.
This is some copy pasta material lmao
You can change the context to the Luka trade and convo between the FO and the owner, this would still be perfect. 😂
By saying he “doesn’t give a fuck” yet continuing to do all this press about the same thing over and over again is the funniest thing.
Why the fuck did you let me do this to my life?
- KD to his agent in the aftermath of this decision.
Yeah, totally didn’t care at all!
“I dont give a fuck”
-man who famously made multiple burner accounts to argue with fans on and call his teammates retar ded
I love when KD starts doing this for 3 weeks every offseason when he starts seeing too many tweets that don’t mention him. “I’m very secure in my decision” says the man who is still not over people hating his decision. If he defended half as hard on the court as he defends that decision he’d probably be the goat.
He’s a loser who had to join someone else’s team to win.
“If you can’t beat them join them”
KD
yep he’s extremely fragile
possibly the most giving a fuck player i’ve ever known
The ones who give the most fucks are always the ones who loudly and constantly say they don’t give a fuck.
You’d rarely bring it up as much as he does if he actually didn’t care.
The Hikaru Nakamura special.
Like bro, just admit you were ring chasing. People would respect you more if you were just honest about it. Pretending it wasn’t about the rings while running burners is just pathetic.
Yea just look at Kawhi vs him, where I’d argue Kawhi is the definition of don’t give af lol
Cause he knocked down the not giving a fuck ladder after he already climbed it
Wasn’t it widely known that Durant called his agent crying and asking “Why the fuck did you let me do this?”
A few fucks was definitely given
Definitely we all remember the cupcake campaign he tried to make a thing
The what now
1 fuck for each burner at least
“I have no regrets” states a man who has tried dozens of times to reframe a decision that he made a decade ago.
Has a real, “And another thing, I’m not mad. Please don’t put it in the newspaper that I got mad.” vibe to it.
When Mitchell Robinson dropped that video detailing how he doesn’t care people make fun of his free throws.
Just don’t say anything at all dude lol. This is a bad look for you.
In
Do burners count?
“And I knew my game had reached a point where I needed to really see what that looked like.”
Son, you helped take your young team to the finals and were a MVP. We knew what it looked like
The crazy thing Abt KD is that if he really wanted to leave OkC he could have gone to 28 other teams and it wouldn’t have been seen as the bitch move that going to GS was.
Shoot, idk if the team had the cap space, but a prime KD in Houston with Harden would’ve looked so much better PR wise. They don’t have a shot the next year, but young Capela, with Ariza and the rest of the FA signings they had during Morey’s tenure like Eric Gordon and PJ Tucker would’ve been very interesting.
Wonder how a team with prime Harden, prime KD, Eric Gordon, PJ Tucker, and Capela looks like against a Warriors who probably keep Barnes instead of getting KD
He’ll never admit it publicly but the guy was and is obviously bothered by it all
And it will still be the biggest bitch move a million times
And People say OKC should retire his number fuck all that bro did that franchise dirty with leaving the way he did.
His number is never getting retired here. Never.
He doesn’t give a fuck as he said. That’s why he will have no retired number or statue or any legacy with any franchise.
KDs legacy could end up being with Team USA
I think his legacy *will* be being remembered for leaving OKC to go to the 73 win team that beat him in the finals. It’s still the most talked about point of his career and unless he wills the rockets to a chip it will continue to be the most defining moment imo. Second would be his shoe size against the bucks.
Unless he becomes a relevant talking head he’s going to be one of those lost superstars that nobody from younger generations really remembers. He never really made a significant imprint on any team besides OKC. Could argue GSW but they wont see him anywhere near the same light as the big 3
Nah. He’s a super famous archetype among hoopers. He’ll be like Allen Iverson. Actually probably even moreso. It’s the playstyle and cool points
Which is crazy because the first guy I think of for USMNT is Olympic Melo. I fucking hated watching that dude in the NBA but in the Olympics he was just incredible.
Fuck KD but Lacob already said the Warriors are going to retire his jersey. Would be hilarious if he goes back against his word though.
Non-OKC fans say that a lot when the conversation gets brought up, but he genuinely destroyed his reputation with the fans in one fell swoop. I still remember the week going from him publicly stating that he wasn’t leaving to joining the best team and flipping almost immediately. Yes he got an MVP and had many great seasons in OKC but how he left and how he’s responded to the fans since then has completely soured the city on him. It’s always fuck KD for me.
Yep, I feel like him leaving would’ve gotten the jersey retired if he just spoke fondly of his OKC experience
But he’s continued to shit on everything and blame everything/everyone but himself lol
the fans AND the franchise. Basically burned every bridge with everyone except Westbrook.
He might have repaired that bridge but make no mistake about it that him and Russ were not cool then. KD pretty much lied to Russ and Collison when they had the dinner when KD was taking free agency pitches. And the natural agreement they had in those 8 years playing together was Russ was going to take ever bullet from the media while KD was the loveable face. Once KD leaves and him and his camp trash OKC, it all became Russ’ fault until he comes out like a maniac in his MVP season.
The only reason Vince got retired here because he seemed genuinely remorseful with the way everything went down once he got older and because we eventually won without him. OKC won but the way he continues to take shots at the franchise should not be rewarded.
Will any team retire his number? Thats my question I’m curious about
Golden State will
What people?
Legitimately do not understand people still thinking it’s happening.
but I knocked down the like, “not giving a fuck” ladder with that too, you know what I’m saying?
no, kevin, i don’t. nobody says this
Him and his other burner accounts does.
Getoffmydickerson, Hopoffmycockerson, and Jumpoffmyjunkserson all just retweeted this
lol thank you. Was this a ladder to giving a fuck and you knocked it down so you wouldn’t climb up and give a fuck? What does this mean Kevin?
Edit: Or maybe an accidentally self aware statement that there was a ladder to climb for him to finally not give a fuck and delete his burners, but he knocked it down to go get a free ring.
He definitely isn’t bitter over it lol
Kevin Durant, well known for not giving a fuck lmao
Bro made burner accounts to respond to people on Twitter…. I’m sure you give many fucks
Okay getoffmydickerson
I’ll never forgive it. It wouldn’t have matter if he went to the Wizards to join John Wall or Celtics to join Thomas that offseason, but to the Warriors of all teams? That ruined his legacy and I don’t think this is something time will forgive.
KD hurt his legacy more by going to the Warriors and winning two rings than he would had he just remained ringless. Those rings mean absolutely nothing to me and to lots of other fans.
100 percent. Ultimate bitch move.
Zero argument everywhere. Biggest bitch move in NBA history and an absolute gut shot to the Thunder fans.
And then the MF has the gall to publish a players only piece in The Athletic, named “The Hardest Road.”
What.
A.
Bitch.
We gotta do something with our /nba power to let KD know how we feel. Like another sub or every free agency we put his dumb ass on blast in a mega thread
KD would create another 100 burner accounts though.
This is absolutely false
The rings and FMVPs helped his legacy. He’s often in that Top 20 range. He’d be hard pressed being there ring less
Its weird because its true. It absolutely elevated him in how he’s evaluated in a ranking scenario. But at the same time it completely tarnished the way he’s percieved forever. Man if KD had done anything but join the warriors at that exact moment hed be thought of as just one of the greatest pure hoopers to ever live
Man who has used twitter burner accounts for a decade to absolve himself of negative attention claims he doesn’t care if he gets negative attention
He was caught on his burners responding to tweets he wasn’t even tagged in. Meaning he was searching his name up lol
i don’t give a fuck, in fact so much so that i need to tell everyone that i don’t give a fuck, over and over again, and have multiple burners across multiple social media platforms tracking what people say about me constantly. that’s how much of a fuck i don’t give.
Fuck Kevin Durant. My salt will never dissolve.
When the tornadoes in 2013 decimated Moore he showed up at the remains of my cousins house just to look around. Fuck him. He took pictures and left.
Then his lame ass got there and was miserable there too. Whatever man
It’s gone from being “a spur of the moment decision” to now admitting that he knew he wanted to leave and go there. Which coincides more with all of the rumors of the time that KD told Al Horford not to sign with OKC that summer until after he made announced his decision.
Doesn’t give a fuck about something from 10 years ago, yet still can’t stop talking about it. Sure pal
Bro caught a little case of Saquon-itis here.
All you gotta say is “it was the best move for my career at the time” and leave it at that. People will give you shit at first but they’ll get over it. But nope, these insecure image conscious mfs need to craft a bullshit PR narrative to make their decisions seem like something more than just wanting to go to a better situation and they dont want to get any criticism for it.
Had to knock down the ladder to make way for the new giving a fuck escalator
These two are so weird.
The reason Kevin Durant signed with GSW is because the Warriors lost to the Cavs in 2016.
The reason the Warriors lost to the Cavs is because Draymond got suspended.
The reason Draymond got suspended is because he lost his temper against OKC.
The reason Draymond lost his temper against OKC is because they were down 3-1.
The reason they were down 3-1 is because KD was beating them.
The reason KD was beating them is because Steph got hurt.
The reason Steph was hurt is because he was rushed back against Houston.
The reason he was rushed back is because they were struggling against Houston.
The reason they were able to struggle against Houston is because Houston made the playoffs.
Houston wouldn’t have made the playoffs without Dwight Howard on the roster.
Dwight Howard was on the roster because Kobe abused him.
The reason Kobe could abuse him was because he was traded to LA.
The reason Dwight Howard went to LA is to have a chance to beat the Miami superteam.
The reason the Miami superteam exists is because LeBron left Cleveland.
The reason LeBron left Cleveland is because Delonte West slept with Lebrons mom.
SO
KD went to GSW
Because Delonte West slept with LeBrons mom.
Steph Curry saved his Diva butt…Otherwise he’ be chipless like Harden and Westbrook
This is the guy that ruined my goats legacy, just so shameless
Hey look two of the biggest liars in the league
Kevin, you’re were bitching to your agent and crashing out because you’re being universally hated for it.
You second-guessed immediately’
Who cares at this point? OKC won a title with a better player and the Warriors won with him (and without him too!)
This guy always have contradiction in his stories. First he said it was the hardest road, now he is not giving a fuck when he made that decision.
I genuinely think people would like KD more if he never left Golden State. He’s trying to have his cake and eat it too
I think KD would get more respect if he stopped acting like he didn’t go to GS to maximize ring winning potential. No one believes he went there for any other reason. He doesn’t have to say “I made a weak move and stacked the deck” but just say he didn’t think it would work in OKC and he thought he would fit better for a championship with GS.
Durant = cancer. No legacy
He thinks we don’t remember lol
I can’t remember where I saw this but wasn’t he whining to his agent about his legacy after he won a ring? Saying how his agent told him people would respect him after winning the ring with gsw
You’re not climbing the mountain, you’re taking a helicopter to the top.”
KD and Russ beat an elite Spurs team with a dominant rebounding frontcourt in Adams and Kanter. That 3-1 choke to Golden State is still crazy to think about. That OKC squad was a Finals team.
This brotha is special.
Dude could have gone to dames portland.
For someone who doesn’t give a fuck, KD does seem to give a lot of fucks
Oklahoma, after Durant, Riley, are getting used to these coward types who go west for the easy layup.
The fact that he is giving these interviews ten years later is clear that the ladder is very much standing lol.
I think it’s well understood that “I don’t give a fuck” and “I DONT GIVE A FUCK!!!!” have distinct meanings
I’m me, I do me, and I chill
Yeah, because he got to go against single coverage and attack late closeouts for three years.
We’re all very impressed, KD.
God he’s such an insecure little b for how good of a basketball player he is
Honestly if he just shut up and play he would not get as much hate he has now
KD you’re a fuckin hypocrite bro. Jfc, this guy will go down as the least-liked top 10 all-time scorer. Dudes got a shit-stained legacy.
how come entire X website is banned, but this drone funder is accepted well here? I thought the whole point was because of the atrocity?
IMHO:
I’m almost sure that KD is in the spectrum. It explains many things, in special the extreme sensitivity to the critic.
As an outsider, it’s funny how much people angers for him going to the Warriors, when we constantly see people going to Real Madrid, PSG or whatever and super teams are the norm rather than the exception. If I’m among the best, of course I want to play with the best and see what can we do.
I understand the idea of “kidnapping the league”, but as a neutral, those years were like watching the Globetrotters against the world, and winning. It was great and, most important, fun to watch. It weird to us that the market is free anywhere but sports.
He would not do it again. This guys legacy has looked worse year by year and he’s gotta have the Stephen A’s and Monica McAss’s defend him and rank him top 10, making all 3 of them look like absolute idiots.
I dont doubt that he’d do it again if he had the chance but puh-lease Kevin. Don’t act like you dont give any fucks. You give more fucks than any athlete i can remember
He’s such a loser.
All time great player who’s soooo thin skinned
If he doesn’t, his career ends up the same as Harden and Westbrook. Great player with nothing to show for it but stats and no ring
Can’t get fan love or females. Good thing he’s good at basketball, cause he looks like a homeless dude
Bus rider
It’s disappointing to see KD at 37 years old completely covering himself in lies that sound good to him and nobody else on the planet. When he’s attacking other people he can really get to the truth of the matter but when he talks about himself he has become even worse about 100% lying. I thought he would get better about it as he matured. He’s going to be one of those former players who you can’t even listen to because they just spout bullshit.
Translation I ain’t did shit since I left and am ready to come back
It’s clear he’s trying to convince himself and nobody else about it with him saying he “knew he fit” lol, literally ANY small forward fit. It didn’t matter. He’s trying to justify it to himself still. Wild.
Such a man child. You joined an all time team to get a ring, own it my guy. All these attempts are pathetic.
This dude makes me embarrassed just watching his dumbass
Am I the only one who remembers the story of his screaming at his agent about ruining his life after he started getting backlash when the news broke?
Rewriting history, classic cupcake move.
I bet he doesn’t. Desperately wanted a ring and got a couple. Overall didn’t improve his legacy tho, the rings are paper and not winning anything after definitely put him below Steph legacy wise
He talks about “not giving a fuck” like thats a good thing lmao. Pure disgrace of a “competitor”
Talk about not having any aura. His skills will make you take notice but his personality will make you wanna look away.
the guy ruined the league for 2-3 years. it’s entirely possible the current parity NBA era would’ve started much earlier if he hadn’t made the weakest move of all time.
(if KD had stayed, cavs were probably favorites to repeat in 2017, but it was pretty wide open with OKC, the spurs, and GSW. Houston would probably win in 2018.)
Westbrook seems like a difficult player to play with but man KD gives off large negative locker room vibe, maybe GS culture played a large part in corralling that.
Tired of hearing this crybaby bum open his mouth. Been irrelevant for the past 5 years and people wanna crown him as one of the greats. Going 5 years without any accomplishments invalidates you as a great player. Career over at 33. Pathetic
Most insecure NBA star we’ve seen in modern times.
When someone says they don’t give a fuck or they couldn’t care less they 100% do
He’s so tough, what a tough guy, I’m shaking over here
