Take this how you will, but he was in Atlanta sports radio talking about how much he wanted to stay here and how in this stage of his career, he has no desire to move again and wants to settle down in Atlanta. It’s probably just more convenient for him. He also mentioned how much he’s enjoying his role on the team and that this is a great group of young guys and a cool opportunity for him. I was also expecting a 2 year deal, but I guess he really meant what he said that he doesn’t really care about all of that stuff

I imagine having control over where he plays would be important to him at this point in his career. He suited up for 3 teams last season and, in all seriousness, he is a family man. I don’t think he wants to be getting bounced around the league like some older players do who are on long term contracts.

Probably the most he could get in AAV. He showed he still had a lot in the tank this season. With the CBA coming up, he’s probably trying to squeeze as much value out of his prime that he can and then sign a long term deal prior to the negotiations.

I think it doesn’t, because he’s still under contract right now since the season doesn’t tick over until after the draft and 1 year extensions aren’t treated the same as 1 year free agency deals.
