13 Years Ago Today - Miami Heat Win Back-To-Back Championships Beating Spurs in Game 7
LeBron sure beat the “not clutch” allegations with that jumper.
Crazy that Bosh and Allen had 0 points combined in this game too.
Check Game 7 of 2016 as well. He puts a 3 in Ezeli’s face for the lead before Kyrie’s.
Whoever think Bron is not clutch, delusional.
I believe that man’s name is Skip Bayless
convinced him hating bron just became a bit sometime around 2010. he’s the OG ragebaiter
The man still claims that LeBron is only the 9th greatest player ever, at most. Generational hater
Lol he says outlandish shit so people 10 years from now still bring up the outlandish things he use to say. That white guy with the big nose does the same thing.
2011 could have permanently damaged his reputation - especially after moving to Miami - but the work he did after that season and the output he delivered on ever since is absurd. He crushed every narrative.
2012 to 2020 is the greatest stretch of any player ever IMO.
2011 was definitely the worst moment of his career, but to think he cannot recover from that simply means you (not you - but the general) don’t believe in progression. People like to hound on 2011, but LeBron was a significantly better player in 2012 onwards. The crazy thing is LeBron always improved to overcome his previous flaws until the 2021 injury.
It was a holdover from the 2011 finals
Ezeli fouled Lebron on a 3, Curry did the behind the back pass out of bounds, then Lebron hit a 3 over Ezeli. That sequence cost the Warriors the game.
Only 5 players on the Heat scored in this game.
LeBron 37 Wade 23 Battier 18 off the bench (!!!) Chalmers 14 Andersen 3
Heat Battier was such a cheat code in 2k
The free throws too fr, remember his struggles from the charity stripe in the finals vs the Mavs 2 years prior?
Timmy with a ewing esque miss on that post up. I like battier but 6’6” guarding Timmy within 3 foot is easy…99% of the time
He knew it too lol. Didn’t even watch the video but I remember that miss like it was yesterday.
Right I was gonna say that!!! Dude sealed the game himself
Lol just looked up the box score and mike Miller also had 0 points
Yea, “so clutch” with an easy jumper and a 2 point lead with 30 seconds left. Gimme a break.
lol it was the dagger in a fucking game 7! If he misses, who knows what will happen.
Spurs were up 5 in game 6 and lost with 30 secs left.
Hes one of the greatest players ever. But I will never agree that he is one of the most mentally tough players for true clutch performance. Theres at least 5 players, maybe 10 that I’d rather have in a do or die situation. He would much rather pass the ball than be “the guy” and I will take the down votes proudly for that statement.
It’s okay, we all know you don’t understand ball. Enjoy being proud for losing fake internet points though I guess.
How old are you? Im guessing 30 or younger. Those are the only people who say LeBron is the greatest player ever. Everyone else knows better.
For a player that’s not mentally tough in clutch performances, it’s crazy that he’s 6-2 in game 7’s. Hasnt lost a game 7 since 08. Averages 35-10-6 in game 7’s. Literally do or die games and he’s the best at it. If that’s not clutch then idk. 2-0 in finals game 7’s. Also averages 33 in elimination games.
He’d rather make the right play that will give the team the best looking shot. He’s been the GUY in plenty of games. You can have your opinion but there’s too many facts to show he is that guy lol. Nothing you’re saying is based off facts but that’s how most Bron haters are.
Timmy slapping the floor after missing that bunny over Battier was so heart breaking then. Thank god for 2014 because this series gave me the worst feelings as a fan.
“Worst feeling so far” - De’Aaron Fox
We were actually one rebound away from another ring for Duncan before he gone for good. Glad we got it the next year though.
Don’t think we are this close to winning it this year and the fact that we are overachieving make it less painful.
2014 was the best basketball I’ve ever seen, so it was kinda worth it imo
This year didn’t come anywhere close to the same type of heartbreak.
Tbh to me, blowing a 29 point lead was a special kind of low and embarrassing as a Spurs fan. The Ray Allen shot only hurt more after the Game 7 loss, in the aftermath of Game 6 I was disappointed but still thought we had a serious chance to win the series. It was only after the series was lost that I fully understood the gravity of that shot and situation.
After blowing a 29 point lead and turning a 2-2 series into a 3-1 deficit, I was pretty devastated and it was pretty awful to be on the wrong side of that history.
Sure but 2013 felt like the end.
Making it back and winning it’s almost as if it never happened, but when Allen hit that shot it felt like we’d failed Tim/Manu/Pop. It felt like their careers were over and the last bitter taste would be a Ray Allen 3 and some missed free throws from Manu.
This might have been tragic, but to me it feels like the beginning. We still have a chance to learn from this, we have a promising future, we aren’t aging legends like we were back then.
No I agree, I even managed to talk myself into believing in a potential script for us to come back from 3-1 in the days after Game 4. I’m more just comparing the immediate, acute feelings of losing Game 4 this year vs Game 6 in 2013, Game 4 definitely hurt more. Games 6 and 7 hurt in 2013 because we had a whole summer to linger on it and wonder if that would be the last gasp; glad it didn’t end that way.
They seemed uncharacteristically panicked. That was very interesting to watch.
Game 6 gets all the hype from this series due to the Ray Allen shot, but game 7 was the masterclass. Arguably LeBron’s greatest performance.
37 points with mostly jumpshots. One of the best game 7 performances by any player ever.
Games 1, 6, and 7 were fantastic games that went down to the wire. Everything a great series between two heavyweights should be
2007 Detroit Game 5 and 2012 Boston Game 6 I think are their own level
Beyond that there’s this game, 2018 Game 1 (just bc of the loss), and 2016 Games Finals 5-6 plus probably a half dozen I’m not thinking of are probably the next level
Game 6 gets all the hype from this series due to the Ray Allen shot
Not to take away for rhe shot but lebron scored 16 points (more than half of the heats points) in the 4th quarter of that game.
Man fuck this lol
I mean, you can still take solace in the fact that the Spurs absolutely dog walked them 12 months later.
True. Still hurt in the moment.
Yeah but if the world was fair we would have won both
Fair? If the NBA was fair then every team would win once every 30 years. I don’t want to hear shit about “fair” from a spurs fans.
Fair = things that make me personally happy.
Idk how every team winning once every 30 years would be fair
You really can’t people two and two together? That’s the state of the Texas education system? There’s 30 teams, if the sport was completely fair, each team would win once before a team wins twice, which would take 30 years, one for each team.
My brother in christ. Read my first sentence.
This has been a bit. Both comments were a bit.
Please don’t make jokes about education systems if you actually need people put up a /s
They hate jokes out here. It’s crazy you still got downvoted after making it extremely obvious lol
“You really can’t people two and two together?” You’re over here talking about the education system, meanwhile writing completely incoherent sentences, fucking dimwit
I’d have said the same when your team bitch slapped us in the next finals
Woulda been 3 straight if y’all didn’t sabotage the A/C
Still can’t believe Timmy missed that
The one time he didn’t use the glass.
So much for Mr Fundamental smh
This was the most evenly matched, well played finals of my lifetime.
I still can’t believe that Heat team only won two titles.
I’m not saying back-to-back titles isn’t a hell of an accomplishment, but when that team came together everyone thought LeBron+DWade+Bosh would run the league for a decade.
The team was capable of 3-4. Same with KD on warriors but both teams injuries prevented them at full strength to pull off a 3-peat. In the case of 2011 that’s on all Bron tho
Regression of Wade and Bosh gets overlooked because of great Lebron was
Wade’s knees started to go, Bosh was playing great until the random blood clots ended his career
Bosh would be so amazing in this era, shame how it ended
We just traded for Dragic a few days before Boshs career ended, those two would have been so good together. With Whiteside having those elite two years or so that trio could have made a splash.
Before Bosh went out at the ASB with those Blood Clots he was on pace for a First Team All NBA year as well, dude was balling his guts out.
They would’ve won 3 if LeBron didn’t turn into Tony snell in the 2011 finals. There is nobody on that mavs team that should’ve been able to match up with him and all they had to do was put Barea on him to completely neutralize him. Wade would’ve also had another FMVP
Agreed. In 2011 they were a super team, but after that from 12-14 I’d honestly say that Wade was below average for a #2 player on a championship and Bosh was pretty mediocre in 2013.
21/5/5 on 52% shooting was below average for a second option in that era?? You’re delusional
Not 6, not 7.
“Not 1, not 2, not 3…”. I remember all the hype- self hype as well- around this team. And they lose the first year. Spurs came back to beat them in 2014. And that was it.
Agreed, crazy how two titles fell short of expectations. Although people forget how good the 2012-13 Heat were. 28-game win streak. 66 wins. Win the title against a Spurs team in the peak of their second reign of terror. Prime LeBron, plus Bosh and Wade before they fizzled out. Spurs the next year beat them and LeBron went back to Cleveland, then the Warriors mostly overshadowed everyone for the rest of the decade-but the 2013 Heat should not get lost in all that. Unreal team
Could’ve been at least 3 if they didn’t make fun of Dirk… 😈
We should have more Game 7s of the NBA Finals. Those are fun.
Silver tried his hardest!
I still want Wemby suspended for game 6 idc if it’s over
2025 could have been epic
I had pretty good seats for one of the games in this series https://imgur.com/a/mpUzWIl
That’s dope.
Nice!
That dagger on Kawhi is the most undertalked clutch shot in the history of basketball
It’s crazy to me that it’s never even mentioned. It’s one of his biggest shots ever but he has so many huge playoff moments that people forget this one
This series was the best sports I’ve ever watched in my life. Game 6 4th quarter was wild.
Still remember that Duncan miss
Take me back 😩
Ball felt different then.
For me in my life, this was the peak of what basketball could be. I was 20, junior year of college. Having a blast all summer living in my college apartment. Going nuts watching this series every night. Game 6 was an all time experience. They brought out the tape!!! They were setting up the arena to award the trophy to the spurs. The series was OVER. Then Ray Allen caught the ball while back pedaling. I stood up and screamed soooo loud when that Bang went off. “…his 3 pointer…won’t go!… bosh the rebound… back out to allen….his 3 pointer….BANG!!!“
Then game 7 was an all timer too. Duncan smacking the floor is a core memory for me at this point. When LeBron hit that elbow jumper I knew it was over.
There isn’t an NBA experience that can compare to your team winning after being down like that. Game 7s are peak sports. I would say only Cavs fans have had a better basketball experience in the last 30 years. Coming back from down 3 1 on that warriors team is crazy.
I was so upset when Timmy missed it and slap the floor.
And I love, I mean love Pop. But he singlehandedly gave this ring to Lebron.
Tim sitting for the would-be final defensive possession, Parker sitting when they needed the 3. Way overthought it.
LeBron had 3 clutch plays back to back to back to win his second chip in game 7 of the finals yet still couldn’t shake off the narrative of not being clutch
Sports media is a disease
Just kick the spurs while they down huh? Lets forget all 5 of those Spurs Championships
Duncan was so angry with himself damn. LeBron LeBron LeBron one of my favourite shots of his
I couldn’t believe Duncan missed that shot at the time
God damnit
I can’t believe Duncan missed that. He’s made that same shot thousands of times by this point.
2012 and 2013 titles are probably the best Heat era for me
Not 5, not 6…
Hated those super teams. Really made me dislike bron.
I had just moved to Memphis (Grizzlies were in the Grit n Grind era). This was a fun time to be an NBA fan.
That’s the only time I can remember Tim Duncan showing this kind of emotion
There’s no way this was 13 years ago.
By far my favorite championship run I’ve ever seen. The intensity of the finals, what seemed like Gary Neal hitting every single three possible, and game 6 especially will always be ingrained into my memory. When LeBron first pulled up with a three and the clock was winding down, I distinctly remember thinking “this is over”. And then Bosh kicks it out to Ray Allen, and I nearly passed out after he hit that shot. From that moment on it was pure bliss. The Heatles were a special time, but this year was the best of the best. It also happened to be the first year I went to a game in person, game 2 I think of the 27 game winning streak against the Bobcats. What a year and what a team.
Chalmers walks at the end , refs try to call it, but then say fuck it. Forgot about that.
Way back when coaches wore suits.
I remember this, cause after the game Tim Duncan made a guarantee to be back at the finals next year. Never heard something like that from him. Well the rest is history.
Lebron really went nuts this game.
This was also considered a Spurs choke job at the time.
The Spurs came back and blew everyone away the next season.
Damn, still not safe to come back to r/nba. 😭
Jordan never went 7 games in the finals
Timmy hit the floor and I hit my bed crying 🤣😭
13 yrs of me watching NBA, dymn I feel old…
Kinda crazy how much basketball has changed in 13 years. We only see a couple plays, but to see Chalmers set a pick for Bron *inside* the three point line to get him some space to take a jumper over Kawhi…and now everyone is setting picks at the logo
Tim Bumcan is the only back to back MVP to lead team USA to a fucking bronze in the Olympics and there are still little boys glazing this guy acting like he wasnt a system player
I don’t think you can blame the failure of that Olympic team on Duncan. That team had a lot of flaws.
He was back to back mvp and average around 10 points in the olympics. Yes it is absolutely his fault. Imagine kobe average 10 in 08 or last olympic where lebron and steph averaged only 10 and led team usa to a fucking bronze. They would be crucified in the media
Why was it his fault?
Literally just said it. Google how they lost if you dont understand the game. Thanks!
Why can’t you back up your reasoning a little more? All you said was that he was a back to back MVP and averaged ten points a game in the Olympics. Then I asked you to explain why the low output was his fault and you refer me to Google instead of backing up your argument.
There are different arguments I’ve heard about flawed roster construction, Larry Brown’s unwillingness to play LeBron James more minutes, Allen Iverson not being the right guard for that team, etc.
Do you think any of those arguments are valid?
Average around 10 points, fouled out in the game they lost in elimination round. These are simple things you should have fact checked before talking back. Or are you just a kid looking to get everything handed to you? 6 points and fouled out vs argentina in elimination and you want to tell me its not the back to back mvps fault? Good one
You’re the one making the argument. I wanted to hear it from you.
You didn’t answer my question though. Did you think any of the other arguments about poor roster construction etc are valid?
Poor roster construction LMAO. Buddy learn to fact check. Every single team usa WON THE GOLD MEDAL WHEN LED BY A MVP except by BACK TO BACK MVP TIM BUMCAM. Sure thing blame the roster again
I think the argument for the roster has some validity. Basketball is a team game.
Yeah, he’s one of the worst of the top 10 players in history. Like maybe 8th best of all time, what a bum.
Top 10 lmao. Sure one dude. If you think a bum that cant even get a gold medal and awful offensive player is top 10 then you do you
What do you mean by Bumcan and the little boys?
