10 Years Ago Today - Draymond Green Waited On His Home Floor To Congratulate LeBron For Winning The Championship
Gee I wonder what this post could be in reference to
I think it’s about the current political climate in Iran
Nah it’s definitely the 10 year anniversary of this G7 game. Can’t be anything else….
Pretty sure it has to do with harambe
Dicks out
It’s been out since his passing and it looks like a dried umbilical cord
Stop putting it in vinegar
But I already did salt
Wembibi Wembanyahu
This is too small a problem to pay attention to in the face of a national crisis, handshake etiquette
It’s pretty funny that Reddit is using Draymond as the example of sportsmanship. Especially because when GSW got eliminated by the Suns this season, he picked a fight with Booker, got ejected, and jeered at the crowd booing him as he walked off the court
It’s probably something like, if it’s possible for this POS to be a good loser then anyone can be
I guess, I just think it’s a bad example, because Draymond happens to particularly like and respect LeBron. He doesn’t give the same respect to everyone
I feel like part of this was also cus draymond was the one who started things with LeBron by calling him a bitch in game. He didn’t want it to extend more than just on court stuff so he prolly felt he had to do this
LeBron was in Dray’s wedding. Not at the wedding, IN.
Damn I didn’t know LeBron was on Toronto
He does now, not in 2016
But it’s more like a broken clock is right twice a day.
But he isn’t. He isn’t a good loser. He does accept any opportunity touch an NBA genital and he wasn’t going to miss an opportunity to spit shine LeBron’s in this case.
But he’s usually a Gatorade throwing crybaby when things don’t go his way.
Draymond loves LeBron. He would suck his dick in the middle of the court if he was allowed to, so of course he would congratulate him on winning the championship
Me waiting for my high school crush to sign my yearbook.
Crazy dudes can’t be friends without your insecurity.
He gave respect to the raptors too when he lost
Haha you’re really insecure, that’s funny man
Not at this point. Draymond had talked about it before, that they only connected years later after this at a Klutch function and they both talked and realized they have such similar ways of talking and interests and things
And if I remember correctly, didn’t he foul Lebron hard at the end of the game, when Lebron almost threw down a huge slam?
Idk I can’t recall a single unsportsmanlike act from Draymond throughout his career
Not to mention dude literally punched his teammate during practice
I mean, it’s also pretty funny that draymond off all people had enough class to wait and congratulate his opponent yet someone else didn’t
I’m a big Wemby fan and I remain a big Wemby fan and I can see how acting as the villain can be seen as a positive. But I honestly would have rather seen him congratulate the Knicks.
yeah draymond just chillin on the floor after the win feels weird
Pearl clutching
Jizz
Spurs maybe ?
Wemby occupies y’all’s thoughts and every thread lol it’s bizarre. Future goat effect
Not goat effect. it’s all the uncalled flagrants, dirty plays, talking like he’s enlightened, when really he’s a sore loser who can’t congratulate the Knicks.
How were you in your early 20s? All in all he’s incredibly well put together for someone who has this “the future of basketball” thing looming over his head for a few years now. Not unusual for someone his age trying to act more mature than they are and that their shit don’t stink… also not unusual for frustration to take over. Also not unusual to grow out of it…
I mean, how old was LeBron when he and Wade mocked Dirk?
After this shit he got in the car and called Hitler
It’s even funnier, he called KD from the parking lot before he even got in the car lmao*
^^^^im ^^^^definitely ^^^^not ^^^^crying *
I don’t remember him calling Harden
Harden’s more of a Stalin
We’re losing recipes
Guessing you’re relatively fresh to the sub. Harden was already being called Basketball Hitler like a decade ago
I remember. And I always felt Harden’s career was reminiscent of Joseph Stalin reign at the top of the communist party
In what sense?
Houston Rockets color scheme is the same as the Soviet Union
lol I definitely can’t argue with that
Reminds of a great old Bill Burr bit “If Hitler is the Michael Jordan of evil, you have to admit Stalin is at least Kobe” talking about comparing their stats and stuff lol
He said i got something for you congrats
A 73-9 team got KEVIN DURANT and the Cavs got Birdman’s withering corpse
r/nba cares way more about petty drama than basketball. I swear it’s like a middle school group chat
Sports is drama. It’s a unique form of storytelling.
That’s why i qualified it as “petty” drama, not Athletic drama. It’s the difference between two competing forces playing to their best and “ooooh he didn’t shake his hand!”
I think the distinction is more flimsy than one might think. A player’s personality and behavior are the stuff rivalries are built on, especially in a division-less sport like basketball.
Hollywood couldn’t get away with the shit that happens in sports
Not really. For someone who actually appreciates sport a basketball game can be a great game even if there’s no bullshit narratives, emotional moments, clutch/choke/whatever, fights or any of that garbage. There can be good shotmaking, quality display of basketball skills and tactics that are fun to watch for their own sake.
Sure. What you’re talking about is sports drama/storytelling at its most basic level, the drama of the game. There’s a reason we consider close games and great comebacks “great games” in a way that we don’t for blowouts. There’s a reason we’re entertained by upsets. The storytelling of the game matters. On a more macro level, something special happens when teams that rarely win finally win, when players who have been doubted lead their team to victory. But the micro level is drama too.
I enjoy individual feats of athleticism. But what makes sports sports is the packaging of those feats into individual, dramatic structures (i.e. games) and packaging those games into a competitive, dramatic season.
I wasn’t talking about close games and comebacks. I was talking about high quality examples of the sport. You can have a great drama of a bunch of scrubs running around with great comebacks but it’s a terrible game because no one knows what they’re doing. A blowout can be great to watch if someone enjoys watching the sport but doesn’t care about drama.
Then why have a playoffs at all? Why have championships? Why not just have endless skills competitions? Why does anyone watch college sports or worse NBA teams when the quality of play is significantly lower than what you can find elsewhere? Why root for a team at all?
Like what you like, but there’s a reason sports leagues are structured the way they are. I love beautiful basketball, but the reason sports have such a unique place in society and have such a following is because of the drama that surrounds winning. Rooting for a team and caring about whether they win or lose is the appeal of sports for the vast, vast majority of people.
Competition is a part of sport. The idea that stories are needed for an organized event where the best people in a specific sport compete is absurd. The idea that championships are for stories is something that comes from media driven spectator sports, it’s not inherent to sports. What youre talking about is a totally fan or spectator driven perspective of sports not competitor or athlete perspective
Competitions inherently have ingrained stories, though. The droughts that cities like Cleveland, or the Knicks did, transcend being merely facts, they are stories. As is the Knicks’s insane +/-. Stories are inherently a part of sports because that’s how humans digest information, just the pure stats and results mean nothing in and of themselves
That’s not the point. Stories happen in sports. Witnessing those stories is often fantastic fun. But saying sports is drama or nothing but those stories is just so ridiculous. There’s the actual sport part of sport which surprisingly some people enjoy participating in or watching.
I don’t understand how it’s absurd. Competition as a concept depends on narrative structure. It’s a staged conflict where one side will win and one will lose, where some parties will have success and then others will fail. If that’s a fan perspective, then fine. The fact that fans care is the only reason sports have a place in society outside of recreational exercise. We’re talking about why people like to watch sports, not why they like to play them.
Regardless, this is of course totally different to what you just said, which is that true fans just care about high quality examples of the sport. That’s just obviously not true.
I agree with you, I feel that they’re missing the point you’re making
It’s the only reason pro wrestling is appealing
I mean that’s storytelling in the way that scripted television is storytelling. Actual sports generate the story through the act of telling it.
I love this. I’m using it
Honestly only the NBA is like this. Maybe the NFL at times with WRs but the NBA has made themselves social media heavier than any other professional league besides Banana Ball.
Edit: Posted this and remembered how annoying the drama in the NFL can be at times. I double down that the NFL comes closer. Maybe the NBA isn’t the only one.
The NBA is the league where the drama is most based on its individual athletes, since it doesn’t have divisions that matter and the game is designed in such a way that one star can change everything. But all sports depend upon the drama of the season, the drama of a game. The stories of individual players, of historic rivalries between teams, of the ups and downs of season — these enhance the drama that is inherent to a sports season.
Yeah I think I misread what you said so my statement is more of a general thing at this point. The story told in sports are incredible.
The NBA is just so much more dramatic from having a younger social media presence. They live for developing whatever phony story they can to sell something to people. The NFL just lets it ride and piggybacks off of what’s happening, with the exception being WRs who are huge divas. Hell, NFL teams teach their guys to avoid media like the plague. The Tom Brady era Patriots were probably some of the best at this. Never once gave the media something to latch onto and create a distraction heading into playoffs.
I suppose. I think it has less to do with social media and more to do with basketball itself. It’s a sport that emphasizes individual stardom more.
Omg did you guys see what Draymond say about LeBron? After all that 💅
Once I learned and accepted this, watching a game has so much more depth. I love when refs really exaggerate their calls. Love the coaches being asked infuriating questions mid game. LOVE how whenever a star player gets hurt, an entire side plot opens where we fill any open air time with a close up of their injured limb or them walking into/out of the locker room.
Really adds an extra spice to the actual game that I enjoy watching.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of the people in r/nba are still in middle school.
100% true, the finals showcased this hard. At least during other rounds there was some top posts of analysis, some of those nice Jeremy Lin breakdowns etc.
The finals it was like beyond 99% drama shit, with some weird rageporn mixed in for good measure with the whole trump game 3 and new yorkers celebrating or whatever.
Bitch you’re here with us
The sad part is there’s all these spinoff subs that are supposed to be above all this and it just ends up being the same crap.
r/nbadiscussion
r/justbasketball
r/nbatalk
similar, but different flavors imo
Its never fucking ending man. Wemby is 22. He eas upset. Holy fuck get over it
i mean it’s about both isn’t it. otherwise we’d be watching the game just for the pure activity being played on the court. the storylines, fandom and drama is what makes sports enticing. like how dirk winning a ring in 2011 is seen as a “bigger” ring than the kd warriors winning one
Shaking hands isn’t storytelling. It’s petty nonsense. When Zeke didn’t shake MJ’s hand, it was the culmination of years of struggle, bordering on violence, between two teams that hated each other and ended in a lack of respect. Wemby’s was just an upset kid who doesn’t have relationships with other NBA players. It’s fake drama. It’s the opposite of the stuff we tune in for.
The average age of this sub is like 14
I subbed to the subreddit to watch kyrie make a fool of himself during covid. I still don’t watch the games
always has been, the product has been going downhill for awhile so its all we got.
When you realize most redditors are weird 16 year old white kids that wish they were black
people forget draymond had 32-15-9 in game 7 thats finals mvp numbers on most nights but bron was just different that series respect to dray for shaking his hand after a loss like that
think he was 6⁄8 from three as well, just wild overall
And then he suddenly lost the ability to ever shoot 3s again
Not really suddenly. With Durant arriving it wasn’t part of his role any more, so he stopped. And when you stop using a skill under competitive conditions it’s normal to regress.
Nah he randomly still hits clutch 3s every once and a while during regular season lmaooo
Only cause he has to keep defenses honest after they realized he can’t shoot very well so they stopped guarding him almost entirely
Only warrior that showed up that game, I remember thinking that he unlocked something and was gonna be way better offensively next season
he saw offense didn’t bring him a ring, so he went full D on those sliders the rest of his career
Draymond for all his faults always stood on business and faced the music
I did enjoy his explanation why he always shakes hands after a loss. Nothing to do with sportsmanship, but “if you can’t look your opponent in the eye at your lowest moment, you’re a bitch” lol.
Which is somewhat admirable, you know he’s not a front runner. He’ll keep the same energy win or lose.
That’s cause he’s right
I mean he’s not wrong
I always gave him props for this kind of thing. It’s why I always judged Klay more for talking shit and being salty than Draymond.
Yes, despite the numerous assaults on unsuspecting and undeserving victims this absolves him of all his shittery. God bless
absolves him of all his shittery
Not what I said, reading can be difficult sometimes.
Tell me how many players he’s injured again (I’ll give you a hint the answer is zero)
But what about the emotional damage to the fans
I for one, was very emotionally damaged watching him choke out Gobert. Definitely wasn’t hilarious
Pretty sure there’s video of him punching a teammate in the face. Teammate sustained an injury.
You are right he injured him so badly he punched out all the talent in him
So what he’s good at hitting people in a way that it isn’t hard enough to injure? Is that an attribute to praise?
Definitely not for lack of trying tho. Not enough strength behind his sucker punches and nut kicks.
Poked Bron in the eyes twice, got Harden in the eyes once, kicked Adams in the balls, trampolined off Sabonis’ chest, randomly swiped Nurkic in the face and knocked him down…you fr rn?
How many games did all of these players miss combined? Exactly, 0 games missed and 0 injuries.
You guys are such fucking nerds
Now do the rest of GSW that year.
Kinda loses its edges when you consider that Dray and LeBron are friends outside of the game.
Steph dapped them up too if I recall
They didn’t become friends until after this finals.
Were they that close before these finals? Dray hit him in the nuts and got suspended not very friendly
They weren’t. They didn’t start getting friendly until around 2018-19. Draymond didn’t become Lebron’s biggest fanboy until he joined Klutch in 2019.
The major players of the Warriors and Cavs all show a lot of love and respect for each other now but that really wasn’t until around 2018. 2016 was the peak of when they all hated each other.
It’s why the LeBron to warriors rumor is so plausible.
And then went into the parking lot to call KD
This is starting to get weird, it’s been almost a week
OP is unemployed
living the dream
Friends with the enemy? wtf, that’s a loser mentality. At least that’s what people used to complain about, right? Right?
I slick forgot about this narrative lol. You’re right, goal posts flipped.
This is clearly directed at the 1991 Pistons not shaking hands with the Bulls right? I’m always here for Isiah Thomas slander!
Next year these same dudes will be saying “I never doubted Wemby for a second” lol
that Game 7 Draymond was unreal — 32/15/9 on 11-15. the mutual respect between them made that moment hit different
Then he walked outside and called KD
Always was a class act!… right?
Steph also congratulated the team
Gotta look your killer in the eyes
He showed sportsmanship, great.
He’s still a dirty player that has zero self awareness.
Showing sportsmanship doesn’t erase how problematic he is in so many other aspects of the game
Likely would’ve been LeBron congratulating Draymond if he didn’t stupidly get himself suspended for a game.
Wemby would never
Draymond >>> wemby
Wemby is a sore winner and loser
it’s cuz he wants the king inside him
we dragging this shit till next season man lol
Wemby would never!
Why can’t he be a good sport DURING the games?
But that’s his boo
Didn’t LeBron receive a bunch of shit for not shaking hands with the Magic after the Cav’s lost to them? He also skipped out on the press conference afterwards and the only thing he really apologized for was not doing the press conference afterwards.
People are still on this shit about Wemby. Dude has a whole ass career in front of him that’s going to have ups and downs, let it go.
Just wanna say I absolutely love this shade at spurs fans. Nothing makes that ultraredditor fanbase angrier than being called #unclassy.
and showing them a moment where draymond fckin green was objectively classier than their pseudo-leftist mistborn-reading public-park walkable-city mental-health built-in-the-Reddit-lab superstar….chefs kiss. Predictable meltdown incoming
U think reddit still likes wemby?? 😭
Not at this moment. Nobody’s beyond getting shat on when they lose, and the knicks are a feel good story, plus Knicks fans have never been above kicking people when they’re down 😂 But they will love him again soon.
What I’m saying is that Wemby was built in a lab to check off as many Redditor boxes as he can, and it’s a perfect match, because spurs fans are all turboredditors who would sell their ass in the street for 10 karma
Mistborne era two is pretty awful. He needs to read some Robin Hobb if he wants to start winning.
Get this man on some Joe Abercrombie books
DRAYMOND DID IT FOR THE CHILDREN!
or
because you have to look your killer in the eye or they assert dominance.
Whichever.
/nba narrative violation
So what.
Draymond climbing up my respect meter.
We for real still caught up on this?
Draymond has a deep love/respect for Bron
We get it, Wemby is a sore loser. Stop acting like it’s an absolute hate crime lmao.
That’s respect right there. Both ways.
If you don’t wanna shake you don’t have to, if you do then good for you. Should be end of story forever, this has always been the lowest iq story in every finals series.
You think Dray will pass up any opp to be in front of a camera?
What’s with all the LeBron 2016 championship posts?
god this shit is so boring
Where wen ban yamama
Wemby has the dirty plays like Draymond, but is a sore loser unlike Draymond
he called Kevin Durant not even an hour later lol
10 years from today we will still be getting these insufferable posts.
Hey Knicks fans, you won. You can chill now. I’m sorry Wemby hurt you so bad, but try celebrating your title rather than hating on another man.
A grizzlies fan posted this…. Leave us Knicks fans out of this.
In the same series he hit someone in the nuts, so maybe not the beacon of sportsmanship lol
That someone was LeBron. Lol
Though I don’t recall if he actually made contact.
He did not. Lebron didn’t react to it in the moment and only reacted to what draymond was saying to him. It only became a big deal after the game when windhorst told him about it and the cavs decided to lobby the nba to upgrade it to a flagrant
Beginning of the bromance
My brain immediately went “LeBromance” and I now realize the irreparable damage to my frontal lobe
Holy fuck can this stop
“I admire and respect you too much to kick you in the nuts, I’ll put them in my mouth given the chance”
Something Wemby couldn’t do…
Do we really need 10 more threads about this? Touch grass, I am begging you
They’re wine friends… do people not know that.
Wemby hate is so strong it got people glazing draymond’s behavior in the series where he kicked LeBron in the balls and got ejected 😭
Draymond: Rich is going to make sure I get paid well past my prime, right?
Bron: No doubt.
🤝
Probably easier to do when you’ve already beat lebron in the finals twice at this point.
FFS let this vapid bullshit go.
He just wanted more camera time
I dont understand why this is a rare occurrence in basketball. In nhl and nfl its done every time
It’s not a rare occurrence. Walking off at the end of the series without acknowledging your opponents is the rare occurrence.
I feel like almost every series this year the team left after the final buzzer
Go watch the end of literally every finals other than this one
It’s not rare. It’s just showing even Draymond who had beef with LeBron in 2016 was sportsmanlike enough to give the Cavs their respect. Meanwhile Wemby just leaves
Draymond wants LeBron’s admiration and his beef, course he was going to praise his King. His suspension/fouls were what got the Cavs back in the series in the first place.
I guess you don’t remember they actually hated each other back then. Draymond didn’t start glazing him until later
It’s not
Who fucking cares?
“I used to pray for times like this”
- Draymond Green after his team suffers the worst comeback loss in NBA history
Draymond can lick a white dog turd
Stay mad
You know when Draymond fucking Green has more respect for competition than you its bad. Somebody from this year needs to grow up
If Draymond is making you look bad, it’s time for some self-reflection
Sub has a find a way to glaze lebron every day
Just retire already
