Modern 4s are wings big enough to switch onto centers for a little while or bigs agile enough to guard down without clogging the paint. PJ Washington, Siakam, and Aaron Gordon are all 3s in 2006, but they are 4s today. Champagnie is a decently sized wing, but he’s not big enough to be the sort of 4 that the Spurs need. PJ, healthy AG, Siakam, or OG would be able to complement Wemby by not letting him get drawn out of the paint by an opposing center as easily, while also being able to help guard the paint with Kornet.

Who can do that now who is available? PJ might be available from the Mavs for a decent enough offer, but I don’t think they are eager to lose him. The best version of Rui if they knew they could get that. John Collins or Bobby Portis are fine bench 4s. Healthy Tari Eason? They could also try the Kuminga reclamation route if they wanted. But there aren’t a lot of good candidates on the open market today

He looked pretty cooked in the playing time he did get this season. His shooting stroke is gone and he’s 35. He’s barely more mobile than Kornet. He can still provide that veteran presence and some minutes here and there, but he’s not really a guy you can rely on. He did have a killer putback dunk for us though.

OG is arguably tied with KAT for 2nd best player on the Knicks. If Dolan trades him this off season for some asinine reason, I’ll probably threaten to stop rooting for the Knicks and then go back to begrudgingly rooting for them while we lose for the next 50 years.

I think he’d be good coming off the bench in the non Wemby minutes. Wemby was playing 40+ minutes a night and that is one of the bigger reasons why I thought the spurs lost. He looked gassed every 4th quarter because they couldn’t play kornet

I agree, bu5 we still need that 4 to free him up to save energy while he is playing though. I am convinced one of the reasons he would get so gassed in 4th was having to do ALL the rebounding, box outs, screening and battling with KAT and Robinson in all of his minutes.

A legit sized 4 could at least save some of that wear and tear.
