Kobe on LeBron not shaking hands. “I think people make too much of it to be honest with you. It’s a very competitive game and we’re human just like everybody else.”
the only people who care about this are people who are looking to hate on the player they don’t like
Unless a player actively like pushes a player’s hand away or turns his back its a nothing burger.
Lol the Knicks didnt care
Even then who cares. They could turn their backs and tell them to fuck off and it would still be a nothing burger. They just lost the most important series they’ve ever played in.
They chanted fuck him lol they might’ve cared a little bit
Probably cuz he was their opponent?
They also chanted De’arron Fucks
I don’t think every team chants fuck the oppositions best player after they win a series but what do I know
Couldn’t just said Reddit.
You nailed it
For the most part, 100% agree. Certainly the people who bother posting and yapping about it are in this camp.
That said, things like this do personally affect my opinions of players and teams. I’ve always valued good sportsmanship among players I root for. So if they appear to be a poor sport in a situation, I care and get disappointed.
That is, it does affect my personal opinion and I do care. I just don’t care enough to make a big thing about it on social media lol. I agree that the people doing that are just trying to justify their hate. It’s the same as when political media cover a story that shows the side they hate doing something bad.
You’re a yapper
I think a lot/most people *want* to like him.
But the Finals highlighted that he is kind of a dick. Cocky/arrogant and couldn’t back it up. Cheap shots and some dirty plays. Being coddled by the league. And poor sportsmanship to wrap it up.
It just showed his immaturity.
This is what feeding into a narrative looks like.
Nah if you want to like him, you wouldn’t bite on all this bullshit being pushed by haters, namely Blazers, Wolves, Thunder and now Knick fans. So much bullshit I’ve seen these fans push.
You want to blame him for losing his cool abc throwing and elbow? Fair…and that head shove, unless there was something we missed like an elbow a few plays before, that one is fair too…but everything else you just said is such horseshit lol with all the constant dirty plays he had to deal with all playoffs, he largely just kept his mouth shut, didn’t complain to refs much, didn’t show much frustration, just put his head down, yet that gets overlooked when people only want to call out the narrative driven stuff.
And don’t blame him did the league not wanting to suspend a star player and wanting to extend the series…they’d do the same exact thing if it had been the Knicks trailing in the series.
[removed]
But you did get into it and are choosing not to elaborate. Choosing not to get into it would be not making the claim
Different sports but Jalen Hurts didn’t shake Mahomes hand after he lost to him in Super Bowl 57, this type of stuff is common all the time in sports.
Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are two who also didn’t shake hands when they lost a SB.
Yup Tom didn’t shake Foles hand after the SB and he already had 5 at that point. These dudes are in their first playoff run at 22-25.
Foles was pretty infamously upset about that though
Sure but that is partly because Tom had shaken hands after past SB loses and he felt like the snub was because he was a career journeyman backup.
I don’t think the Spurs would have been in the mood to shake hands regardless of the opponent.
I could be wrong but didn’t Tom also walk off the field and not shake Eli’s hand after SB 42?
Tom Brady also laughed and is fine with jokes about Eli beating him, but got very defensive when Peyton brought up Foles during their golfing match years ago
Tom Brady absolutely has a grudge against Foles specifically. He doesn’t feel he deserved to lose to him.
505 passing yards with 3 TDs and zero INTs. We would’ve assumed Brady won handily if we never knew the score.
What? He was not infamously upset. He said numerous times it was no big deal.
Now philly/philly media certainly made a big deal about it
Well that’s interesting I’m a huge Patriots fan and I’ve never even heard this story about Brady and foles. We have hand shaking lore but it’s almost all belichick refusing to shake people’s hands
it was a total nothing burger but people would bring it up to say how brady was a poor sport etc. philly sports will talk about anything lol.
it came back when foles (on the bears) beat brady (buccs) again and brady didn’t shake his hand again lol
Brady was just salty that BDN beat him lol, he shook hands with Brees and Mahomes after games win or lose, although he’s been a better sport about Foles since he’s retired, I guess it’s easier when you’re no longer playing lol.
i mean im sure he was salty, im just saying imo it doesn’t matter like kobe is saying here
I mean shit i wouldn’t shake hands either if i just lost to nick big dick foles 🤣
Tom was the sorest of losers
I’m just saying the media made a deal out of all of that. Why we demanding it should stop now?
Because these dudes are really young. I hate that as a society we use the young excuse to justify all types of heinous behavior but never use it in cases like this. We can give grace to a 22 year old for not shaking hands after the biggest loss of his life.
People really judging 22 year olds for being in his feelings after losing the biggest game of his life lol
for reals
get over it
he’s still an awesome player
I got banned from r tennis and temporarily in F1 for saying athletes shouldn’t be expected to dickride each other. Even if it’s to just shake hands.
Seriously had people in here clutching pearls because it “sets a bad example for the kids 🥺”. Such overblown nonsense
Belichick didn’t shake the head coach his hand after 2007 and honestly it looked pretty petty.
Nah man. The spurs are the anti christ and his 12 evil apostles for not shaking hands
True.
Hail satan!
Maybe those monks can train wemby to sweep the leg next season!
Imagine if he fakes an elbow then just take a knee out instead!
Very zen 😌
Nah, we can just bring him on a shooting range. He’s already in Texas anyways.
Ah the Ja school of hard knocks.
Gotta lock in the Glock calibration.
Is this Wemby derangement syndrome 🤔
He’s got the best elbows
The San Antonio Satanicals
Peter thiel told me the antichrist is Greta Thunberg…one of you lying
Peter Thiel is an anagram for The Reptile
*queue X-Files music*
Greta Thunberg will be drafted by the spurs this upcoming draft confirmed
Bird and Jerry West have not shaken hands after losing series. They are viewed as competitive legends.
Yup this is stupid for the NY fans to keep bringing up. Who even cares?
Okc fans lol
Hating on Wemby every chance they get is their championship
they won a year ago lol
but also true
We don’t talk about that here.
To a team without their star player though
I genuinely still believe if hali didn’t test his acl pacers would 2026 champions
Do you know who Jalen Williams is?
Insane take
He ran from a press conference and this sub hand waived it away.
It’s not NY fans here lol. It’s OKC fans lmao
It’s not NY fans bringing it up. It’s sports media
The Knicks flairs in this sub say otherwise
Knicks fans? Naa, this is haters, Knicks fans have been amazing throughout the whole series and only the healthy amount of shit. Also, they love basketball and this isn’t about basketball, it’s drama.
The only people who are mad are Knicks and OKC fans because they have to find a way to discredit Wemby but can’t use his actual play on the court to do it.
Why would knicks fans have a reason to discredit wemby after beating him? It’s mainly the uncalled flagrants that knicks fans are mad at wemby about
Other than him bricking FTs and turning it over in the clutch you’re absolutely correct.
It’s not really a big deal not shaking hands, it’s very understandable. It’s just that doing it make you even more admirable. It shows how you compose yourself after defeat and showing true sportsmanship.
What, West was seen as a neurotic asshole who did too much. You’re right Bird was seen more favorably although I don’t think the media’s framing of the rivalry with Magic was a small factor in that
Nah, doesn’t this subreddit hate Kobe? Lol.
You know this place is desperate if they’re turning to Kobe for life lessons
What are you trying to say? Is the message not good?
It is but because we hate Kobe and are 12 he’s actually wrong here
Did he tell a lie or not
Lol, you got owned u/george_cant_standyah
“This subreddit” is millions of people with their own opinions
This subreddit likes to use Kobe to hate on players they want to hate on.
Was hilarious to see a highly upvoted post comparing Kobe to Shai to shit on Shai.
Like motherfuckers you hate Kobe what you mean he should play like Kobe???
They hate Kobe unless it’s time to hate on SGA.
They hate SGA unless it’s time to hate on Wemby.
Hopefully it doesnt happen because he seems like a good dude…but i wont be surprised if Brunson gets hated sometime next season.
Hilarious
But when I was playing church ball we always shook hands after the game
I didn’t shake hands but I would pray for forgiveness later.
must’ve been one of the guys who liked posting up a little too much
“When I finish up a board game with the boys, even when I lose, I always shake everyone’s hand. NBA players are terrible losers and should follow my lead. I am morally, competitively and - if I actually tried, which I don’t, by the way - athletically superior.”
I got the white star for most Christ-like, I’d know!
You’re lying
Well of course you shook hands. God was watching.
Only people with a problem with this have never done anything competitive before
I always shake hands but damn it’s so hard to right after a game. Like give me 10 minutes to cool down
Nope, r/nba said if you don’t instantly shake hands, tell every player on the other team that they owned you and that they’re your daddy within 15 seconds of losing, you’re an irredeemable piece of shit
I was a college athlete and we would always shake hands during regular season games. But at the championship? I was fortunate to win our conference 4x and no one ever shook hands after
What Division?
Just d3
I don’t know, a lot of people I play with get PISSED if you don’t shake their hand after a game. I could care less and would prefer someone walk off rather than be pissy. But plenty of people in my league demand a handshake.
There are a couple of shitheads in my hockey league that will often leave the ice without shaking hand when they lose. Those kind of players usually have a reputation anyway, and it’s not like skipping the handshake line is the worst thing they’ve done. They just look like a clown.
I think “sportsmanship” in general is kinda fuckin stupid and mostly performative. People pick and choose when they care about it
If they wanna shake hands cool. If they don’t, they don’t.
The pearl clutching in this sub has been amazing
This is such a talking-head topic.
When I was the Spurs’ players average age, I could barely handle getting worked in COD. It’s not a big deal at all. Bad sportsmanship would be something negative they said to the media afterwards. They’ve been classy. Shaking hands after a loss is like bonus points for your legacy, not a knock lmao
Also the Draymond comments were so over the top. Famous master of his emotions, Draymond Green, calling out players after they lost the finals. Too good.
I agree. My point in posting this is that this isn’t something that’s never happened and that players at the highest level don’t give a shit. It’s very silly to think it reflects on the person in some meaningful way.
Nah, this can’t be right! Surely r/nba wouldn’t make a big deal out of nothing!
OP playing both sides seeing if Spurs fans will upvote Kobe haha
Kobe AND LeBron. Give us Bird and West not shaking hands instead
Jesus give it a rest guys. Go touch some grass fr
If they don’t shake hands after losing to my team they are sore losers but if my team doesn’t want to shake hands they are just competitors and are upset in the moment.
See, you get it
Every NBA-related sub are full of haters and idiots, except our own team’s sub
God damn ya’ll some fucking babies
NBA fans always want mamba mentality until a player actually has it
r/nba the last 10+ years: Players are too friendly now, everyone’s banana boat buddies, lolebron, and there’s no rivalries, no one today would survive 80s NBA, they’re too soft
r/nba today: THEY DIDN’T SHAKE HANDS!?!??
I dont condone Wemby’s elbow, and i agree with people calling him out, but it’s funny that if that was Jordan, Laimbeer, Chuck, or anyone from the 90’s, people would be hyped and be like “THIS IS REAL BASKETBALL BOYS!!”
This sub would die out if there was no one to turn on.
Lol so much crying during and after this playoffs. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it to this degree. 😂
Last season easily surpasses this one.
Why can’t Knicks fans just enjoy their championship?
it’s just reddit. trust me, they are.
I know, my comment is directed to the Knicks fans I’ve seen post on reddit about handshakes when they just won a damn championship
Most fans aren’t on reddit, they’re people that shout let’s go Knicks whenever you pass them if you have a Knicks shirt on
We are. This is a Mavericks fan posting a clip of Kobe Bryant. What are you on nephew.
I’ve several posts in this vain, Knicks fans have also posted about this
But but wemby is a terrible person
Next I wanna hear what Bill Russel thought about the issue and of he shook the hands of those plumbers and milkmen
It’s crazy how much people care about this when a group of early 20 year olds that went to the finals and gave up leads every game got emotional.
Most other teams at least lose early a few times in the playoffs and know they’re in their growing phase which helps soften the blow. All these dudes went straight to the finals on their first shot.
Shaking hands at the end of the game should give you 10 extra points in the next game. Daps are a 2x more boost on top of the hand shake bonus.
shaking hands is unsanitary. you dont know where those hands have been
Exactly ppl are making it such a big deal about whiby not shaking hands.
They have a handshake line in hockey and those dudes are allowed to punch each other in the face during the game.
If it’s a forced handshake it means nothing.
NO! r/nba already told me the Spurs are the devil incarnate because they didn’t shake hands. They even SNUBBED Sochan.
I’m just here for the karma farming tbh
Did you know that this place is just a place to dump negative emotions and hatred?
Let’s keep this going for another week
Remember in The Last Dance, when they brought up the Pistons leaving the floor early? Thomas said it best, “When you lost, you left the floor.”
Simple.
Kobe is such a real one, always just honest take not some politically correct bs
Thank you for posting some sanity from a professional who is a multiple time champion. Dudes in this sub act like the Spurs committed a war crime by not shaking hands
You should shake hands. They do it in professional sports like tennis, we teach our kids to, grown adults can do it too.
Obviously you want the slaw guys to be better but it’s not shocking that some guys can’t handle the situation
Kobe is not the person I’d take advice from on what’s the right thing to do.
Funny because Lebron got crucified for doing the samw thing. Neither did people never let Detroit forget.
Now everyone’s defending Wemby…
The problem is too many people are bored and just looking for anything the get butthurt over. The only reason people are fixated on it now is just in the span of a couple weeks the hate bandwagon jumped from SGA to Wembanyama. So the previous fans golden child in the NBA is now the new villain. people just love to hate someone, and wait a bit and they’ll find a new player to hate on.
It’s kinda the other side of the coin to, if you ain’t cheating you ain’t trying. If you ain’t mad you lost you ain’t really wanna win.
If I win a championship I’m not spending a single second trying to find the dude I just beat. The court is too chaotic at that point. I’m probably in a dog pile with my teammates, hugging my coach and kissing my wife. People who are deeply concerned about this are weird to me.
How many handshake posts are we gonna get? Im tired boss
Man you know Kobe was overlyyyy ready to meet him in the 09 finals
would have been glorious to see him bust that ass
i hate how people always make not shaking hands or congratulating their opponent who won a big thing or try to make it seem like someone is disrespecting them. im too busy being hard on myself right now to be soft with you bro. i got work to do and anyone who knows that competitive fire understands.
The degree that this sub is willing to excuse any and everything about the Spurs is really fucking weird.
Kobe only daps up champions
“I’m in your head”
Kobe on Kobe not checking consent. “I think people make too much of it to be honest with you. It’s a very competitive game and we’re human just like everybody else.”
Kobe knows all about getting off people’s backs.
Oh, wait.
I too would not shake hands with a rapist.
…what? They’re talking about the ECF.
Ya but don’t let that ruin a redditors chance to hate on Kobe
I wouldn’t want to shake Kobe’s hand.
I wouldn’t want to shake Kobe’s hand because he was a rapist.
Ok bot, once again, this is about Cleveland-Orlando
Grats on your performative virtue signaling tho
I have never even heard of Cleveland-Orlando. The only Cleveland I know is Cleveland-Ohio.
Yeah but LeBron and Kobe never met in the playoffs. So there was no discussion of shaking Kobe’s hand. They just asked him about it pertaining to LeBron.
It is okay that I don’t want to shake Kobe’s hand.
Okay dude. Thanks for letting us know.
I swear if you’re a New Brunswicker, based on your username, I’m disowning you.
New what?
Why do you want me to shake a rapists hand?
the same kobe who was a dick to his teammates and called his organization trash and was a rword?
And he shook opponents hands. Isn’t that more proof that a handshake or lack thereof doesn’t define someone’s character?
you can say rapist brother. the r word refers to something else
