Knicks really won because of the Power of Friendship
poor DiVincenzo
At least he won a championship before… he was injured, but he was a big part of that Bucks team having the seeding it did. I hope that numbs it a bit because yeah this sucks for him
Bro is Squidward in the Squidward looking outside the window meme.
Funny enough Precious Achiuwa posted that meme when the Knicks won
I hope my man wins one. This has got to be so much pain to see. I’m sure he’s happy for them, but damn it stings.
He actually got one with the bucks didn’t even realize
DiVincenzo won a ring first with the Bucks. But yes, this does suck watching your best friends who you won with before win and be hailed as heroes.
When you make a mistake but you’re able to move past it, and your teammates have your back, that gives you the confidence to make the next play… this is such a tough line
It’s a testament to every member of the squad. Hart for having the fortitude to not falter and crumble from what could’ve easily been a game losing play. His teammates for not holding it against him, recognizing he had a moment of need and immediately coming to his support and aid.
Honestly, when he missed that layup it felt like the comeback was over. It would have been so easy for all of the air to be let out the balloon. Lesser teams would have folded. But not these Knicks. Not a team led by The Captain
> Lesser teams would have folded.
You’re describing the Thunder when they pulled their starters at the start of the fourth down big to SA in G6. They were settling for winning at home in the next game and not even trying to win G6.
It helps that the opponents happened to be some of the biggest chokers in NBA history, at least in this series.
They should make this a story line in an anime
They can make an entire season from game 4 alone
Pretty sure Ben stiller has been filming for a good portion of the playoff run if not the entire thing.
Word is he’s doing a documentary.
ngl this is lowkey a major plot point in season one of the anime haikyuu 😭
someones gotta explain to me why there arent more ‘serious’ animes. no like actually serious and dark and real. where the main male characters all dont look the same.. there isnt corny stuff every few mins… u know how its gonna end… no main characters die and if they do its at the very end.
and yes ive checked out a lot of them. akira… ninja scroll…berserk ghost in the shell… i want to see a knicks/spurs anime version like that. not blue lock. AKA we never seeing it
There’s plenty of adult anime and manga out there, it just tends to have a smaller audience. If you want an adult basketball manga, Real is one by one of the industry greats. It’s about wheelchair basketball though, so maybe a little different than what you’re looking for.
They won because Brunson left $113 million on the table, Kat made Wembanyama shoot 43 %,and James Dolan stopped trying to run the team.
Ok but Brunson left that money on the table largely because of friendship.
It’s more like 38 mil, and he did it so that he can be a free agent on his 10th year, then he can sign the super max and make that money back and then some. There’s no aspiration stuff needed here.
If it was the smart business decision than everyone would do that and the analysts would not have all been shocked that he signed it
It’s not common for a player of his caliber but it’s also not quite as insane as it’s reported - he got short term security (and still a huge sum) then bet on himself and his team that he would make it up when he got the bigger max starting a year earlier
Luka did it with the Lakers, and Mitchell did it with the Cavs.
You do not understand the NBA salary structures at all. No analyst was “shocked.” A narrative was being pushed, that happened to be true, that by doing this he was helping the team. The truth is, by doing it this way, he set himself up for a max contract 2 years earlier which would pay him close to \(440 million. Comparing his pay over 6 years (2026-2032) he actually will make \)21.8 million more by doing it his way.
And if he got a severe injury before then? Before the chip someone like Jalen usually wouldn’t take that risk. He’s not seen as a Luka or SGA type talent who could afford to do something like that
Works both ways, if he waited to get the max and got injured that year he would’ve lost out on way more. He took the early extension and securing the future instead of risking something like what happened to Isaiah Thomas
Well, you have to win the championship game almost single-handed to pull it off
Fortunately he did that
Wemby also made Wemby shoot 43%. There were a few instances where they were literally daring him to shoot a 3 that final game and he was just bricking them.
Thats psychological too though.
Imagine being called MVP and the other team leaves you open
No one is holding a gun to Wembys’ head and insisting he take wide open 3s with the game on the line. Wemby was deterred from the paint by the knicks D and baited into taking 3s. Every Knick fan watching was elated every time Wemby settled for a 3 because sure he’ll make some of them, but he’s going to miss most, and most importantly his biggest advantages (being a giant in the paint) is completely neutralized.
He just has to work on hitting them. Even if you are stronger closer to the paint, you can’t be shooting 16% in the final game and 27% on 3s in the Finals in the modern NBA.
He was also dead tired, probably why he was missing.
Brunson took that paycut so they could go grab Mikal and Mikal took a small paycut to help the cap situation because of Brunson
Super facts, friends and chemistry matters. Not just throw in a bunch of players that look good on paper. This was team basketball. It was fun to watch.
Cap 💪🏼
They won it cause they wanted it more.
Along with their own hunger, players also felt the weight of a storied franchise not winning for sooo long. It had to be.
I agree completely. It was an example of the integrity, honor, and character of the team.
I’d run through a fucking wall for any of them 🥹
Same.
They won because they were the best team at the right time and all of the players got uber hot and made the right plays at the right time.
They made every clutch shot they needed to make
Well, that would be every winning team. They also won the In Season also. You don’t have to dominate the whole season or every team to be the best. Knicks didn’t look sexy enough to be a story all year, no big 3, no “mega star”, not a 3 point only machine, and always the Next Year team.
Yes but they had role players shooting unnaturally hot, pacers had the devil magic and the Knicks had it this year, teams adjust
No they didn’t? Aside from shamet for a while (and all good three point shooters have streaks like that) this wasn’t really some kind of crazy magnet ball run
If you think about what he’s saying it’s sage advice on life. Don’t let your mistakes weigh you down, it creates a massive cascading effect in both directions depending on your mindset
They didn’t even let him think about it for more than a second
This Knicks team reminds me of a group of misfit toys that just clicked together. Other than Brunson, no one player on this team could go to another team and instantly carry them into the playoffs (maybe not even Brunson.) other teams overlooked our players and gave them up for picks and other stash options. They complement each other well and play team ball. Yes Brunson is a big part of the engine but having OG KAT and Bridges there as possible pass and shoot targets totally changes how you have to play us.
My guy you are delusional. You guys got kat off of the best playoffs of his life, og was known by real hoops fans to be one of the best 3 and d players in the league, and bridges had arguably the best rep of anyone but has performed the least.
Nobody overlooked these guys
The Heat’s 2023 run was largely fueled by Playoff Jimmy and the power of friendship as well.
I’ll give credit to Jimmy, but definitely not the power of friendship. The Heat players all don’t f with Jimmy after he left.
Disagree. The vibe on that team was immaculate. They only didn’t F with Jimmy after he threw his tantrum.
I love this sentiment so much and speaks to their entire season, really the past two years. Whenever this team was losing or inexplicably fucking up the narrative was they had no identity. To say their identity was cemented in what ultimately became fleeting moments of failure is so profound and poetic.
<3
power of friendship sounds like a weird basketball stat ngl
2 rings in a row from the power of friendship, is this the new meta?
Get a load of this guy
Many people are saying this is the new meta
Bro thinks he’s on the team.
What are you talking about?
