Wemby and Champagnie dropping in for a surprise visit at a San Antonio Children’s Hospital today
I hope the children can cheer them up
Lmao
This is an all-timer. Having spent countless days with my kiddo in a children’s hospital, I give you the sick kids joke pass.
Thinking of you and your kiddo, all the best to you both ❤️
Man.
Alright this got me
“It was so heartbreaking seeing their young faces filled with despair,” said Timothy, age 8.
There’s gotta be a MJ-child equivalent “fuck them ballers” or something right?
Alright that’s good 😂😂
LMAO
You know what will put a smile on your face? Kids with cancer
Allen Iverson, is that you?
Reminds me of this savage article from The Onion.
I still like this old Perry Bible Fellowship comic
https://pbfcomics.com/comics/a-hit-for-bobby/
GG, cheers mate
“I can’t believe you’ve done this”
https://i.imgur.com/sm9laWH.mp4
bahahaha
Dead.
this is great perspective. yes you lost a heartbreaking finals but there are many folks in way worse positions. good on these lads.
The kids thought they had it bad, then they saw the Spurs come through the door
You got balls saying that when we’re fans of the kings 😂

We got to be apart of it for one year after 16 years. And I went two of those games. The first game I went to was everything I have ever wanted.
They thought they had it bad and remembered Kings fans exist.
Why he say fuck me for?
The San Antonio Spurs visited a children’s hospital the other day. “It was sad to see the look of hopelessness on their little faces,” said Ryan, aged 6
Lmfaooooo
Bro
Outta pocket for that one
LMAO this is me. My situation is not so good and then remember the finals and shake my head
Lmaooo
Better hope none of the kids start hugging Wemby.
That’s just playoff hospital physicality. People are soft these days
Why do you think they’re in the hospital?
Better than Dave Chappelle coming in
In yo face Billy! In yo face!
Wemby is legit cultured and speaks up for many more underprivileged people than the average 22 year old. Is he flawed in other aspects? Sure. But that doesn’t take away from the difficult things he gets right.
Bro he’s there to complain to the kids. I know you’re dieing and everything but castle didn’t see my pass and we blew a 27 point lead in game 4 inside of a week
if he shows them the 4th quarter Fox footage there might be a few flatlines
Sir. Those children have been through enough.
But you dont understand. He’s plays competitive on the court so he is evil incarnate. Just look at the responses to InstanceGlum.
Yeah I had a couple people in my life ranting about him walking straight off the court after gm 5 and I was trying to be like look he’s a 22 year old who is frustrated and just lost in heartbreaking fashion, he walked off the court and kept his frustration and emotion to himself till he got to the locker room. Could he have waited and spoken to the Knicks players along with the rest of the team? Sure, but not doing so doesn’t make them inherently bad people at all and the jump to character judgements off that is crazy imo
Im sure wembys well aware of that. Itll help with his depression
seeing wemby next to a regular sized door is wild, really makes you realize this man really gotta duck through every entryway
That is a huge door. Champagnie is 6’7 and doesn’t duck
Standard sized doorways are 6’8
Hospital doorways are taller usually around 7 ft
Makes sense, since they need to fit IV poles and other equipment.
Residential doorways are standard 6’ - 8” minimum , custom residential can have any height given a minimum of 6’ - 8”… Commercial or institutional doorways in the US are also miminim of 6’ - 8”, but typically see 7’ - 0” doors, especially for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act & IBC (International Building Codes) compliant entryways for hospitals and clinics.
Looked very very close to him needing to duck though lol.
his fro definitely touched sill
I’m 6’6 and don’t have to duck through most doorways and have multiple inches of clearance
I’m 1’6” and I don’t have to human when I waddle through the door.
bro thinks doors are the size of people?
I need a subreddit dedicated to Wemby holding and being near everyday items for scale
There’s already one for Yao Ming who’s taller
r/yaonextto
There’s also r/bobanholdingthings
R/wembyforscale
To me, seeing him talk to other players on the team like he’s talking to his 5 year old son makes me realize how tall this fucking guy is lmao.
I couldn’t help but laugh when he was talking to Mitch, he had to bend down and look like whisper in his year. This man sitting down is taller than most people standing up.
When I wanted to illustrate just how tall Wemby is to a friend of mine who isn’t really into basketball, I just showed him a picture of the dude standing next to KD, who he is familiar with, and he was like, “Holy shit.”
I always think about how until he made his money and could byild something custom, it was probably a bitch for him to shower. Im 6’6 and a lot of showers in hotels or wherever arent for my height. Let alone him being a monster
hahah true makes you wonder if teams genuinely factor in shit like this when choosing which hotels they stay at
They do. There are specific hotels that cater to NBA players, they’ll have bed extenders, adjusted showers, and large furnishings for the really tall players.
The college I work at has a hotel on campus. Apparently they spent a lot of money redoing some of the rooms specifically so offensive line recruits could move around the bathroom more comfortably.
Username checks out
That must be so fucking annoying holy shit
Height is so weird. I’m 6ft- and if you were to take a regular ft long ruler- or even a 1.5ft ruler and hold it up above yourself, it doesn’t seem freakishly tall at all.
But seeing it? Lol, I dunno. Just hits way different.
A Giraffe amongst the shorties. He’s like Ser Duncan up in that B
Obviously, his height worked in his favor, and Wemby is extreme even amongst the very tall - but I always thought that an extremely tall height would be very burdensome. I know a couple of really tall people, like over 6’6”, and doing things like flying, riding in cars, finding comfortable furniture, etc. is really hard for them. The world isn’t made for them. (Plus, extreme height also increases your risk of heart issues and musculoskeletal problems.)
It’s one of those things where everyone talks about Brunson like he’s tiny… and then he’s just a regular tall dude. NBA heights are so ridiculous that you can’t appreciate their true size on the court.
Life is bigger than basketball. Always.
Basketball is a nice distraction from reality, a children’s game. But the influence and hope it can give to kids does absolute wonders. Means the world to them.
Very cool of them
So much bigger. It probably meant the world to this kid that his idols met him and gave him jerseys.
At the end of the day
A couple of years ago my friend was murdered on my birthday, he loved basketball so much. My first thought when we won was that I should text him, I was so happy in that moment that I forgot he was killed.
Every year it hits me like a ton of bricks on my birthday all over again. Every year I forget, then I remember and it just all feels like shit all over again.
Watching the playoffs this year though, it really felt like I was watching with him. The downs are worth it to remember him.
Basketball it just what it needs to be, a game. A game we all love. At the end of the day it’s no more than that.
yeah, i believe after g4 brunson began his press duty by sending a message to the family of a kid he facetimed a week prior who ended up passing away
Poor Champagnie.
“what’s up wemby!”
“what’s up … man!”
Hit him with man twice as if he tried to think of his name and was like “nah, totally gone”
Champagnie went from playing 3 mins a game in Philly to being a household name because of wemby. Im sure hes pretty happy with wemby
If he were a household name, he wouldn’t have been greeted like that.
That’s true. For now, he’s a household man
[deleted]
He is not from Champagnie region of Prance so he is just Sparkling Wine
no but knicks die hard supportet Timothee is half french though🥲
He probably just couldn’t tell at first if it was Julian or Justin and didn’t want to embarrass him by saying the wrong name. /s
That’s dope as hell. Good for them.
It’d be great if the kids roasted them. “What happened, man?”
Oh they have real problems so they don’t bitch online all day.
If this isn’t the realest statement i’ll see all year
So much Wemby hate going on in the NY subs. But really I think he’s a good kid, a gentle giant just trying to find his way and mature in front of the whole world at 22 years old. He’s made immature mistakes, and yes community service and giving back is one of the best ways to grow and also bounce back from disappointment. I see bright things for the future of this young Spurs core
Really hard to feel sorry for yourself after a visit like this. Big props to whom ever thought to do this.
Pop would’ve said this to them after the game. It’s a game, go get some perspective then come back hungrier and stronger.
Sounds like something Pop would set up tbh
I would think that almost all NBA players have their pet charities and projects that they support, I know all the Spurs do. The Spurs are very much a part of the San Antonio community so things like this are pretty normal in the off-season, it just doesn’t usually attract the NBA’s attention and will only get reported on the local news.
Not easy to do this right after losing the finals. Mad respect!
Champ doesn’t get enough respect
Reports say that he was looking at Castle with a towel draped over his head in the locker room and said, “I just want to see you smile, man.” He’s a good egg.
He seemed like a positive presence when he was at St John’s. Always interacted with kids and his classmates. He came back for a SJU game at MSG last season when the Spurs were in town to play either the Knicks or Nets and was chatting up everyone that came up to him.
Genuine smile too. Can’t believe some terminally online people think he is a bad person because he did a few bad looking moves while gassed and overpressured.
The report said that when Fox walked through the door after the video, one kid started crying 💔
Fox was supposed to be there, but he missed his exit.
dude’s been all in on SA since day one. love to see athletes actually showing up for the community like this
…and then get traded to the lakers for nothing :‘(
As long as Pop lives and breathes, the Lakers get nothing.
Nico’s not in the Spurs FO.
According to yall, Wemby only cares about himself
Wemby hate is so forced
2 weeks ago he saved basketball now everyone hates him lmao
We have an epidemic of insecurity, where seeing someone have success or get glazed makes people want to tear them down. Happened ever since Bron
I need a FAQ at the top of the sub updated weekly on what the current hates / loves are. I’m too old to keep up.
It would have to be updated daily. Maybe hourly.
He’s still saving basketball, I love that he’s a villain. Much more fun that way
It’s really embarrassing and it’s just proving the idea that no matter what, the best in the world/face of the league will always get tons of hate
when’d he save basketball?
There was legitimately comments all over nba socials about how the Spurs and Wemby saved basketball after beating OKC. Insta, Reddit, YouTube, etc. genuinely everywhere
“Hey little buddy, have you ever played point guard?”
I did a spit take god damn
Some people hates so much on Wemby they’re going to find a way to turn this into some fake performative PR narrative.
People really are getting too anti social and negative. Like I don’t think people realize when fans talk about Spurs or athletes in the community, there are an untold number of stories you’ll never hear where the players or org stepped up to help out without anyone knowing unless the families talk about it. I bet over the next coming months we’ll learn about some from Knicks players too when they do their visits, just like we did here in SA and it’s not forced PR or whatever weirdos say.
I have to wonder if the people complaining about stuff like this are actual basketball fans and know anything about their favorite teams. The Spurs are a big part of the San Antonio community and support loads of local and area charities through their non-profit, Spurs Give, plus sponsoring youth basketball leagues, supporting food banks, homeless charities, and innumerable other initiatives. Wemby has dressed up as Santa for the Elf Louise project, made appearances for the Bismack Biyombo Foundation, built public basketball courts in Paris, and regularly makes visits at hospitals, clinics, and food bank drives.
Anyone who thinks this was a one-off publicity stunt doesn’t know anything about Wemby, the SA Spurs, or how NBA teams function in their communities.
Not like he’s been doing this since his rookie year
Indeed. Here’s a photo of Santa Wemby and Elf Champagnie helping out at at Elf Louise for Christmas 2023. All Hail Wembansanta and JuJu the Elf
I’m confused. Many on this sub have been telling me that Wemby is an awful, immature dude
They’re in this thread right now calling it a publicity stunt.
Wemby could cure cancer and people would call it performative
They’re calling him reading books “performative”. Apparently reading books is something you do just to look “cool” now and not for your own personal enjoyment. Sure wish it had been that way when I was in high school.
I mean, he’s reading fucking Stormlight of all things. It’s so easy to tell how into it someone is. This isn’t like a LeBron thing where you can get by with pretending you’ve read something because of the movie tie-in.
There are statements that makes me genuinely worry about this country’s future, and the commentary about how the only reason someone would read is to be ‘performative’ might be the most worrying set.
It’s about one quarter of a step away from worshipping being an ignorant fuckstick.
I mean it’s great that they went. But it’s also good PR right at the exact time he needs it
Sure, but I’m not prepared to assume a cynical motive behind a good deed just because a few people are salty about some hard playoff fouls.
If it’s pr then why isn’t this a news article or something instead of a shitty video made by the parent?
Certain people want to start a smear campaign against Wemby. Luka was the previous victim of the smear campaign. Probably the same people responsible for both smear campaigns.
but but but…..he crossed his arm, he’s disrepecting the kid! let’s egg him!
Competitive basketball on the court, serving the community off the court, that’s how things should be
Well adjusted young men
Really good dudes. I always see clips of Champagnie hanging out with fans before the game and I know Wemby is always doing lots of charity stuff like this.
Love seeing this
Good on them
He’s gonna get a lot of hate, but honestly it’s nice to see people take a blow in their life and then choose to do something kind.
“literally worse than Hitler” - r/nba
Looking for someone, ANYONE, to take Fox’s minutes
You just have to love this
Wemby hate propaganders not gonna like this one
This is wholesome.
I fucking hate Wemby the player, but anytime I see athletes visiting sick children, I can’t help but like them even for an instant.
Good on Wemby and Champagnie. Life is bigger than basketball.
The post above this is Brunson at the club drunk saying “fuck wemby” and I scroll and meanwhile it’s wemby at a children’s hospital. LMAO it’s like a sitcom😭. Not being shady or anything for all the sensitive folks on here, I think it’s funny. It’s just basketball.
I’m sure Brunson and the other Knicks do their share of visits to kids hospitals and local charities, too. The way so many people assume this is a one-off visit “to clear his head” tells me they don’t really know their teams or don’t have a team in their community. The Spurs surely aren’t the only team out there supporting their communities with charitable works and visits.
This is Pop’s influence. He’s always kept his players grounded by helping them see their big losses in the context of what’s really important.
Wemby PR team working overtime to recover his image after that series 😂
Yes it’s PR but it’s PR that cheers up sick children you miserable fucks, be happy about it lol
[Windhorst] Victor Wembanyama visited a children’s hospital in San Antonio today.
“It was just so sad to look into those sad eyes and completely hopeless faces,” said Jose, age 6.
In about 20 minutes the online narrative is going to swing back in Wembys favor lmao basketball discourse is crazy. This is always respectable though
Dope and on brand for wemby despite the pr turnaround he’s been having
Good way to put things in perspective.
This is why I’m a Spurs fan. Every year, every decade- doesn’t matter. Our team shows up for us always
Whether players like it or not they are role models and this is a good move by both players.
Champagnie at 6’7” looking like a short king next to Wemby
Ik kids gotta love meeting Wemby. Like meeting Andre the Giant but French.
Andre the Giant is French though…
c’est la blague
Lost the Finals the night before and still showed up for kids the next day. A lot of players disappear after a tough loss, respect to both of them for this
My man specifically asked them not to send Fox
Good for them. Shake off the loss, live life. get better, beat the Knicks next time
As a Knicks fan, I like this. Respect
Good men for doing that for the kids.
Fox and Castle are outside building a new hospital wing with all their bricks
❤️
Presence during a bad time can make a big difference.
Bigger than basketball.
Love Wemby’s summer side quests. This might be the best one yet. I can only imagine how much joy it brought those kids to see him and Julian.
People saying this is a PR stunt have mental problems. How terminally online and negative do you have to be to believe that.
Imagine how bitchmade you have to be to shit on nice gestures like this like the useless fucks in this thread are doing.
W wemby. Not depressed after and keeping it pushing
Champagnie’s pants are fire af
I love Champagnie dude has a hell of a heart. I always feel like the best players are the ones who show up for the community they play for. Glad to see this!
“It was sad to see the look of hopelessness on their little faces” said Ryan, aged 6.
What a guy says in a post game interview, or does at the conclusion of a basketball game, matters to some extent. Doing these things matters more
Nothing gets you
Look at Victor Wembanyama man so inspirational.
Hopefully this gives some much needed perspective to the many bozos that exist on this sub 🙏
Are they going to show the kids how to give up?
Kid boutta catch an elbow if he’s too needy
The spurs best offensive player and wemby showing up for these kids! Love to see it
Were they visiting Fox? (Joke aside, I love seeing that)
Beautiful
Those are my kings right there.
Class acts with maturity beyond their years. Tres Bon
“He looked a bit sad, but his eyes were full of life and hope for the future. I can’t imagine fighting his fight like he did.”
Timothy, age 6.
Perspective real quick
Wemby is kind of a dick on the court but you can’t deny that he is a good dude off the court.
Shook that hand
aw, my favorite thing to see pro athletes do. So awesome for kids to get to see their hero’s.
Doing good>Getting wasted and talking trash about your opponents.
Julian Champagne has good vibes
Yeeeessss kings
When you’re in ICU at the children’s hospital and Victor Wembanyama shows up 😬😬😬
How can you not like Wemby? Kid is such a stud.
Per reports, De’Aaron Fox also joined them but the kids told De’Aaron to wait outside and one kid reportedly told Wemby “you brought this bum, as if we don’t have it bad enough already?” Tough scene
Poor kids, not only are they sick but now they have to cheer up these guys after they lost
I’m impressed that Hitler would do this
I know NBA nephews have lost their damn minds when they’re calling Wemby Hitler
