Brunson says the Hart missed layup is the one play that will define this Knicks team
What a beautiful answer
Goddamn we are lucky to have this man.
Thank the Mavs lol congrats again on the title. I hope the Knicks can continue this run next season.
Nice username haha
No one’s ever sent me their boobs tho. Not even men lmao.
How about now ;)
Don’t tempt me.
spirtually this means the cowboys get one now
The Mavs just a regular ol franchise player factory over here
The Dallas Comeback over the Suns needs to re examined. Brunson took the leap that playoffs, Lukas record against the suns was Garbo before that series, Brunson made all the difference.
Brunson’s success after leaving Dallas is another notch against Nico Harrison.
So a man single handedly fucked Curry, Brunson, and Luka. I bet his next stop is the CEO of a private equity firm.
It was game 2 vs the jazz in 2022. Luka was hurt, the jazz were up 1-0 and Brunson dropped 41 in an absolutely masterful performance vs Donovan Mitchell and Rudy G.
I was in the lower section with a buddy of mine (tickets were cheap because people were writing the Mavs off with Luka out) and we could not believe how good Brunson was when it mattered.
I assume by “we” you mean humanity, because that is how I feel, too.
Hell yeah
At first I thought he was just gonna troll Josh in their typical fashion and then I was like oh wow thats an incredible answer.
CHILLS. Waiting 53 years was worth it for this guy.
How’s this guy keep saying the right fucking things. It’s some story book shit, damn.
Communications degree from Villanova. Putting it to good use lol
THIS
Josh has the same, that’s also why they know how to do a podcast. Honestly is such a good major for them to continue on TV after retiring
Was it just Josh or did both of them only pick that major for the free laptop/iPad?
Considering the Nintendo Switch story about Josh, I’m inclined to think so
Brunson probably didn’t need a free laptop.
lol were podcasts even a thing when they were in college? he’s only a few years younger than me and they definitely were not a thing when i was in college. communication degrees have always been the big joke degree amongst athletes
jalen brunson is just an intelligent, thoughtful guy
Always respect NBA athletes that go back and get their degrees, despite their huge career success.
He didn’t go back, he finished first and got 2 NCAA chips while he was at it lol
not only did he not go back, he finished early in 3 years. mad respect.
Big head means big brain
Bridges on to something
I’m not surprised at all, especially considering how he plays the game
That honestly isn’t that surprising to me. The best top athletes all know how to apply themselves to something that they commit themselves to. To quote Dr. J: “Being a professional is doing the things you love to do, on the days you don’t feel like doing them”. Meanwhile most students don’t know how to organize themselves until well after they graduate.
I’m pretty sure Hart got the same degree. lol (Also they just did it for the free laptop or iPad)
He’s the captain
Probably because that’s how he actually believes it
Don’t have to remember what you said when you tell the truth
I feel like it came with a lot of emotional intelligence, and Brunson’s quotes do feel like it’s a fresh air.
Despite having a team that I support, I would always appreciate a good game, and a good sport. He’s one of the best right now and knowing when to say things, what to say, and how to say it.
I’m sure Hart will never hear the end of it, but both Brunson and Hart go way back to be able to laugh at that moment now, but hearing it coming from Brunson put a different perspective in me as a basketball fan. It is true, it’s when we pick our brothers up is when we know we can do it or not.
High IQ and well adjusted
Has legit always said the right shit
He has that dogg in him 💪
Easy when you believe everything you’re saying and not just giving a PR answer
He’s got a big head for a reason.
Now thats leadership 👏
We love a witty humble king.
Imagine what Kobe or MJ would’ve said to him lol
Nah Kobe wouldn’t speak to him for a week
A year
JLin nods in approval. He knows the feeling
He still doesn’t talk to Lin.
Oof
Took that grudge to his… Never mind, I’ll sit over here, where you can all post r/whoosh
Jeremy should send a text message like JT… right?
The last 16-ish seconds: “When you’re able to look past the mistake that one of your dogshit teammates did, when you doubt yourself but you quickly realize some of your sorry ass team mates are worse than you, you say: “Yeah, I’m good…I’m better than them, I’m good”, I think that gives me confidence to make another play ‘cause no one else will” - MJ/Kobe, probably/allegedly
I’m glad they brought it up. That was literally one of my favorite moments in the whole series. He fell to the ground being down on himself, and they all came and picked them up real quick and reassured him. That really showed the resilience This team has to immediately make sure that their player is mentally OK. Loved it.
Yeah, it was a beautiful moment that embodied the team spirit that won them the championship
Meanwhile Harper making fun of Fox in Instagram. One of the reason they couldn’t win , missing the trust between teammates
I would have cried on the spot if I were hart. That’s so haunting if they don’t win that game.
No joke, I would’ve had a fucking panic attack after missing that and would have to be subbed out, even if I had all the same physical gifts, just MY own brain lol
There was still more than one minute left on the clock after the foul on Wemby, no need to cry on the spot. But if OG didn’t make that tip-in and the Knicks lost Game 4, that could’ve haunted Hart big time and change the complexion of the series.
He was clearly shaken - he missed that box out after, just seemed rattled, even in the postgame he was somber (especially for him, since he’s normally a goofball). Definitely was aware that if the Knicks didn’t win because of that play it would define his career most likely.
Reminds me of this clip of KAT to JB after his game 2 7-of-25 shooting night: “You’re never by yourself. You’re never by yourself. I’m always with you, step by step.”
https://np.reddit.com/r/nba/s/wCuZDsF8UV
Lol they ain’t never gonna let him live that one down
actually the vid basically kind of says the opposite, that they immediately were telling him to forget about it, its no big deal. I saw the title and thought he was ribbing Hart too, but he was using it as an example of their resilience
Yeah but he’s probably still gonna rib Josh Hart about it for years lol
There’s a clip of them doing Hot Ones a few years ago where Brunson goes at Hart for fouling late in a game that got them eliminated from the NCAA tournament when they were trying to go back to back. Hart went back at him for throwing the ball/game away against Miami when Hart was wide open at the top of the key.
They will absolutely joke about this with Hart for the rest of their lives.
On the human side it’s just so cool these guys have been long time friends and risen in their careers together. Wish I could work with my boys every day for a decade
It’s actual storybook stuff. The kid that grew up running around the Garden floor and playing in Ewing’s locker teamed up with his college buddies and broke a 53 year drought for the same franchise.
Yeah the only thing missing was Donte.
You know Brunson is laughing at exposing Hart in the middle of that Interview and then finding a PC way to recover from it.
Once they are off the live mic Jalen will tell him how he got shitty fingers from sticking them up people’s butt.
Oh absolutely. We’re almost 20 years removed but one of my best friends went 1 for 2 on free throws to tie and then go up by 1 our senior year playoff game with like 3 seconds to go. We went to OT and then lost because we all played like shit in OT lol. Dude was a good shooter too, even made the 3 to put us down by 1 with like 30 seconds to go.
We still rib him about it randomly and it’s a good laugh. We don’t talk about him being all conference in football or the conference player of the year in baseball, but we talk about that. It’s just dumb friend stuff
Haha yeah it’s absolutely both
Yeah now that the miss ended up being meaningless- if they lost the that game and the finals, it would have been hell for Josh hart.
Yes, privately Hart will never live it down but on the court, Brunson and the rest of the team will pick him up every time bc that’s what contributes to winning
It can be both. That’s the beauty of friendship.
It’s actually kind of poetic and beautiful in a way how they turned what could have been a ruinous moment into something that they not only got past immediately, but then turned into a running joke that is just an expression of their bond. Reminds me of the Japanese concept of kintsugi.
That’s what he gets for sticking his thumb up his teammate’s butt : a shitty finishing touch.
A metaphorical thumb in the butt.
the statue of brunson and Hart will be exactly that moment.
With Hart trying to innocently look up at the trophy, while he still has his hand rigid with that thumbs up and Brunson all betrayed.
lol They won’t but that’s for behind the scenes. Though he jokes a lot & trolls it seems like he does it to make you better. He seems like he’s hard on himself too so to see that they gave him that energy back shows that are truly a “team”.
there’s also that 3 pointer Hart missed after Brunson baited the entire Spurs team and passed to him which could’ve sealed the game right there and then in game 5
That wraparound pass was fucking incredible. I rewatched it like seven different times 😭
yeah it was a beautiful sequence of play and quite frankly, Hart shit the bed on the freeist shot of the night
In fairness to Josh, he’s hit that a couple of times for us in the playoffs. Sent Philly home with almost the exact same pass/shot a couple years ago.
Hart is inspirational bc he’s still a winning player even if he missed an open layup or an open 3. It’s very relatable for average Joes lol
funny to call ripped as hell 6’4” athletic as hell Josh Hart relatable for average Joes
Dude was gassed after coming back from 29 down lol.
Man I wanted that shot so bad.
Jalen to Josh to ice the Chip would have been perfect.
Might have got the triple bang
The triple bang was coming out if Brunson hit the shot that OG tipped in. I feel like we got 3 “it’s good” because he was mentally preparing himself for a triple bang before that play.
100% have been thinking the same thing, that would have met the criteria for the first triple bang
Probably not a triple but Mike breen was waiting to call a bang on that
I was pacing around furiously during that whole 4th quarter comeback run with nervous energy and that play is a top 3 one that sticks in my mind. Just the context of Brunson dragging the Knicks back from down 10 to up 2 in the 4th with a minute to go, and then the Spurs finally force it out of his hands and he makes that beautiful pass to a wide open Hart. Even in the moment, it felt significant not only as a good basketball play to get a wide open shot, but also as Brunson putting faith in his teammate in the biggest moment of the game with everything on the line despite what happened just days earlier.
36 seconds left, Knicks up 90-88. Hart had hit a huge 3 earlier in the 4th quarter from the same spot. He hits this shot now and the game is not quite over, but it’s about as dramatic a swing in win probability as you can get without actually hitting a buzzer beater, and it’s for all the marbles and to break a 53 year curse. And it was just a couple of days ago that he had the missed layup and then the missed box out on Castle. That was the pure essence of redemption in his hands in that moment. My eyes got wide and I yelled out “JOSH HART FOR THREE!!” He missed of course– it wouldn’t have been a Knicks championship if they didn’t have to sweat out missing 4 out of 8 free throws in the last minute to just barely pull out the win. But it’s all good, Hart got his redemption in the end anyway. I fucking love this team.
This guy is motherfuckin Naruto
this is his nindo
Is Wemby Sasuke
only if at the end Wemby joins the Knicks
would you consider his flagrants war crimes? Then yes.
Nah he’s more Luffy. Brunson is chill af, carefree but cares deeply for those in his crew. He always comes back even when down to a tough opponent. Learning how to turn every loss into a victory. And those who support him always have this funny feeling he’ll always pull through. While always being shorter or under estimated by others and his opponents. Yet in the end he’s standing there smiling and victorious
Lmaooooo no dead ass
Look up my flair, I want to hate on Knicks (and I do) but I can’t really hate on the things this guy says or does, from his paycut to his comments on Tatum’s injury as the first thing after their win, to him keeping a cool-head in this run (not going near to the trophy, not engaging with critics and all) to this.
Same, hate the Knicks as a franchise but love this current team and especially Brunson+KAT. Knick fans got something special to root for in this team.
relatable.
keeping a cool-head
It helps it has so much surface area
Knick fan and elite level celtics hater here
I feel the same way about tatum and how he handled his recovery. Super impressive.
You two should make out now
As they say in European Football will all the intense rivalries and derbies, “Hate the shirt not the man”.
Yep, I’m pissed that we lost, and will always believe that the sole purpose of brunsons braids is to better sell his head snap, but this Knicks team is pretty damn likeable. Gotta tip the cap
Appreciate you man, I’ve been feeling the same way about Tatum and Hali the past few years. Just immaculate players and people on and off the court.
Another Celtics fan here who can’t find any hate for this team and Brunson in particular. Knicks fans are pretty lucky to have this group to support and go into history with.
Masking trolling his boy inside a beautiful life lesson
I fully expected this clip to just be another roast session on his best friend but nah he loves that dude
I can’t blv this is my life.gif
I don’t think he’s wrong at all. It sounds funny because it sounds like he’s fucking with Josh. But it’s the exact opposite of how these guys handled adversity last year right before Haliburton’s shot to send it to OT.
This times 100! I think Mike Brown is a piece to this as well…he seems like a great communicator
When Mike Brown was our assistant coach, he was def the only reason we were able to keep Draymond and Klay in check.
Man even in this video you see they’re soooo tired…i understand it’s the end of the 48 but it’s much more than that with the minutes and Thibs
I don’t think I can love this guy any more than I do
Dude is so likeable how could you not root for him
Clicked on this expecting to laugh, and here I am crying again.
Always pick your brothers up…because you don’t know when you’re gonna need them to pick you up.
I fucking love this guy
He’s absolutely correct. Everything could have fallen apart at that moment
That last line tells me he isn’t trolling josh hart but quite the opposite “pick each other up and have confidence to make another play”.
This man can’t stop making me fall in love with him
As much as Brunson is using the moment to show the team’s unity, he and the team are going to take every chance to fry Hart over it.
My captain is efficient on and off the court :Þ
And they all moved to pick him up at the exact same time. They are all on the same wavelength
0-0!!
Intelligent trolling right there. Well played
To quote the thing I kept yelling all playoffs. “This team don’t quit!”
ngl that play is the perfect snapshot of this Knicks run — not pretty, not efficient, but the effort on the offensive glass turned it into something bigger. the numbers won’t tell that story but the film will
In the finals yes.. in the rest of the playoffs they were insanely efficient
thats actually what makes it such a good defining moment — its not the miss itself, its how they can laugh about it after winning it all. a team that shakes off mistakes like that and still comes through is the kind thats built for championships
He meant it the first way
This is what greatness looks like this right here
THATS MY FUCKING CAPTAIN.
I’m convinced that game 4 was an exorcism of the ghosts of MSG’s past. That lay-up had to happen as a repeat of the missed Ewing lay-up of 1995, but today the Knicks win. Just some team of destiny type shi
My mother is rolling over in her grave. I promised her that I would never like a New York team, but here we are.
There’s so much beauty to this team but my favorite has to be the addition of Jose Alvarado. Just an absolute hometown DAWG.
Damn she married to Dave mcmenamin
This is the shit that’s going to ultimately lead to him supplanting Jeter as NY sports leadership icon. Just on a different tier
Answered without a second thought.
Trolling masterclass
Jeter, Eli and our Short King JB.
So lucky to have this Knicks team.
What an answer
some Naruto ahh vibes but its true
Dude is an anime fan so it fits.
What anime does he like? I only knew that he enjoyed WWE.
Brunson stop, I can’t love you more than I already do.
God she’s fucking hot
This squad is so likeable
Hart nearly killed Larry David with that layup.
goddamnit i love the knicks. it can feel like a corny answer but it’s so real
the spurs lost because of compounding errors, getting frantic and clearly not doing the basics of being a functioning team unit when things didn’t go their way.
when the knicks made an error they reset, or accepted the tough time and rallied. maybe that’s the beauty of always playing from a loss, you keep cool under that pressure and stick to what’s worked and know it pans out more often than not in the end
the irony of the wemby i’m in your head moment is he desperately wanted his super duper epic MVP prowess to make the knicks get shakey and fearful. even with redding in spurs favor (in my opinion) the knicks found a way to get through, even without KAT in big moments because they adapted and made it work. the spurs.. got shakey and worked as a series of players on a court, not a functioning team even with huge performances from a deep team with players like castle and champegney really showing up. but that does not make a functional team
funny thing is spurs were the better team against OKC and they played great as a unit. i think that did get to their head and heart as much as anything. as a bigger hockey fan ive really come to fucking love this sport in the past few years and how surprising it all is
i’d love to like the pacers with hali recovered make a deep playoff run next year or have someone else really show up, cause you really never know what’ll happen come playoff time but the knicks represent the importance of team ethic and mindset do incredibly.
“Get the f-get up” yeah they real ones for that. I genuinely think the fact this Knick’s team are homies and actually want to play TOGETHER has been a huge part of their success these last few seasons. The chemistry is elite.
That’s one of the best answers I’ve ever seen
Goddamit why did this make me cry
That’s my Cap.
He just seems like a stand-up, intelligent and inspirational dude. Can’t dislike the guy
I don’t even think it’s possible to appreciate how amazing this is.
99% of people would not have that reaction in the moment playing in the biggest game of your life.
Crazy level of leadership and maturity
This man is a fucking bus driver, take notes Kevin Durant
This is an incredible answer. Brunson is a cerebral guy. No wonder why he stunted on the spurs and the haters.
how can you not be romantic about basketball.
I love this team
If Fox had missed that lay up he would’ve just smiled from ear to ear and started clapping
This answer is why the Knicks just won a championship.
The amount of fire NY music bought to come out…
English teachers love this answer
Speaks volumes for the mindset it takes to win.
I was 100% expecting this to be a joke but that was honestly moving
u/savevideo
He was 100% trolling but somehow turned it into a meaningful answer 😂
Instrumental name? Sounds familiar
Empire State of mind
The music isn’t loud enough, I can still hear him talk.
Excluding Lebron & Curry I think Brunson might be my favorite champion of the 2020’s
Love this guys mentality
Damn so good.
When that play happened I thought it was going to be the modern version of the Missed Ewing layup (if they ended up losing). Going on to win felt like truly breaking a curse
JB is so smart, original and nice
Brunson to Wemby:
“LOOK at me! I’M the media answer king now!”
God I hate the Knicks but Brunson is one hell of a person.
Heart of a champion
Hart and Brunson have such a great friendship 😂. I still remember the video of Brunson reacting to Hart getting traded to the Knicks
Lol twas fate to win this chip for them.
He is an ambassador for the game and for the togetherness of a team
It takes an immortal spirit to act out history and let go.
All of these guys are gonna be legends, I hope they’re able to let all of the little mistakes and failures realize the moment even as their bodies yearn for these times.
It’s the imperfections that made it real for us, and I hope they let it stay real for them.
Wemby may have trained with the monks but the Knicks really embodied a force and peristence rooted outside of the ego and instead inside of the hopes and support of each other.
They left it all on the floor, including the score, at the end of each night they said it. It’s 0-0, it’s Samsara.
It’s impossible to hate on this team.
A lot of you still try tho.
Josh Hart: “I failed…”
Everyone else on the team: “Why do we fall, sir?”
It’s been a good year in sports for the “Team above player” mindset. Between the Seahawks being a “Mission Over Business” with Ernest Jones going to bat for Sam Darnold, to Arsenal being about the team and Declan Rice reminding the team “It’s not done” after they lost to Man City and seeing how the Knicks carry themselves.
2026 has been a year about togetherness and how close knit a team can be and succeed.
These onions are mad strong 🥹
Bro this got me weirdly emotional, what a guy
This team, man. This team. 💙🧡💙🧡
Won in high school, 2 time national championship, national player of the year, list can go on and guess what still fell to the second round. It’s easy to blame players for where the league is at, from chucking 3s, load management, foul bating ect.. but truly it starts from top. Again this guy even with his accolades went second round, why? Because some bozo with money and friends can make the big dumb decisions and the fans will just blame the team and coach but not management. People up top get to much praise, most of them are frauds with connections.
Reading the headline I thought he was trolling his friend. Then watching the vid I’m now all the way hyped for 26⁄27
He just bustin Harts balls 😂
Stop talking trash about this man! What a great answer 🙏🏼💙🧡
Jalen Brunson you will always be the best player in the NBA to me
That’s the difference right there. Great answer. Heart of the champs.
