I love the parity in today’s NBA, but Im predicting OKC wins their 2nd title in 3 years next season.

While I’m not a huge fan of watching OKC and SGA, I still have to give them their credit/respect. What other team could’ve won so many games and go so far in the playoffs with their 2nd best player absent and their 4th or 5th best player missing significant time.

Injuries have become so common that it’s prematurely closed a lot of windows which helped create this parity, but that can’t realistically go on forever before changes are implemented. Also in the earlier part of the decade you had a lot of older guys sort of on their way out. Now that the younger guys have officially taken hold I think we’re bound to see someone repeat. I’m betting we end the 20s with 9 different champs. At least one team is going to repeat.

NBA parity nowadays should give any competent organization hope. Throughout history you always needed an MVP, not candidate but a winner. Before 2018 only 3 squads failed to have an MVP on the roster and win a championship.

You imagine that Spurs are a favourite to win extending itto 9 years. But then you still have OKC, Boston, Nuggets, Lakers, Knicks, to win in the next two years, as well as Spurs after.

At the current level we would probably need Detroit, or Timberwolves to go off which isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Biggest contenders to keep this streak going are San Antonio and Minnesota from the west, and Detroit, Cleveland and Indiana in the East.

I have no idea how Indiana are gonna look with Hali back especially with the team changes made in the last year, and Cleveland’s window is probably the closest to being over out of these, but I think Detroit are more than capable of being a true East contender and San Antonio will he fresh off a finals appearance and if their team history and Wembys drive are anything to go by, they’ll be back with a vengeance

OKC is probably the odds favorite for next season.  Knicks probably run it back and are favorites in the east.

Lakers don’t seem ready to be true contenders, but are a darkhorse if OKC gets hurt as is Denver.   So pretty much SA has to make it back or Minny/Houston have to make a big leap or the finals team from the west would end the streak (if they win).

From the east the Knicks have to be the favorite after this run, unless they lose all their FA.  Even if not the Knicks, the Celtics are going to be in the mix to ruin the streak, so it’s up to Cavs and Detroit to keep it going.  Maybe Atlanta.

So yeah, possible but seems like it will end next year.

I think so. San Antonio was wayyy closer than the 4-1 loss would make it seem. If they spend the entire summer learning how to not choke away a 4th quarter I could easily see them winning next year.

On the East side I could see the Pacers making it back if Hali comes back fully healthy and back to form. Knicks winning should also light a fire under them and Carlisle is a top 3 coach in the league.

Other than them though I don’t really see any other non previous champ making it. Maybe the Wolves if they’re fully healthy and get favorable matchups, or the Pistons if they add a legit second option to Cade

Before the offseason, I’d say the top eight most likely to win next year are (in alphabetical order so as to not rustle anyone’s jimmies):

• Boston

• Denver

• Detroit (new)

• Indiana (new)

• Minnesota (new)

• New York

• Oklahoma City

• San Antonio (new)

You could reasonably swap some of these out, but that’s still about half of the top contending teams that would keep the streak going, which is pretty impressive given how long it’s been going and thus how many possible repeats there now are.

I like the Knicks chances of getting there again but injury luck is just so crucial. We almost lost OG this postseason alone, and brunson fucks up his ankle every third game.

Spurs likely win one. That makes it an easy 9. I just don’t know what team is beating OKC/Spurs/Knicks/Celtics in the next 2 years. I can’t see the Cavs or Wolves or Lakers getting over that very good but not contender hump.

It’s… possible. If the new look Pacers return to form, the Heat/Blazers trade for Giannis while also finding an extra kick somewhere, The Pistons get a 2nd creator, the Wolves swing big in the offseason, the Magic figure out how to play elite offense with a trade or two, or the Cavs start making sense that’s 6 potential teams that just have to take 27 or 28 and that’s without a potential Spurs run.

The problem is that the Knicks will be back, Denver still has Jokic, Boston will be back next year and with potential upgrades, Lakers have Luka and capspace coming soon, and the Thunder are still elite.

I don’t think the streak hits 10 personally, but it is very possible.

Yeah. Teams can’t stay healthy 2 years straight for one. I can’t see a team being healthy enough over 200 games to repeat. Now I think Thunder have a chance to win this upcoming season and be first to get 2 chips this decade but the Spurs or even pistons or Twolves with right move can win too and keep it going

I think the Thunder probably win it again next year if healthy, if not, the Spurs have a real shot again. Out of the East I don’t see anyone taking the leap to beat the Knicks or Celtics tbh.

Teams that go on deep playoff runs for multiple years seem to succomb to alot INJURIES afterwards. Contending teams usually take several years before they get to the finals… and it seems that repeating becomes difficult due to the injuries that occur afterwards (maybe the bodies naturally break down).

The champions want to defend their titles, so their injured players end up playing hurt. Trying to recover too quickly to come back an play becomes detrimental because players end up re-injuring themselves.

The offseason is too short to fully recover too.

So lets see… who will be the first team to win back-to-back. Can the Knicks do it? Or shall another team take it next year.

(Here’s me hoping that this Pacers’ gap year gave all our players (not just Hali) enough time to fully heal and recover from the last 2 years of deep playoff runs… and reset our window. )

Of the teams listed, I think Celtics, Knicks and OKC have the strongest chances of breaking that barrier. OKC should be pretty self explantory, (they were within 1 game of making to the finals second straight year) and Celtics just look like a really well oiled machine given a fully healthy year of Tatum + Brown, they will need to get a better surronding cast again though after their firesale at the beginning of last season.

The salary cap rules will do its best to see this keep on going. Okc had the best chance to repeat, at least make it back. Now their big salaries will hit, let’s see how they work the salary cap. Spurs have a window to do it. Knicks could potentially repeat next year.

Timberwolves and Spurs for sure. Knicks were healthy. As were the Spurs. All it takes is injuries to one team and health to another and series flip. Every year. Load management is going to become more of a thing unless the season shortens

I’d love to see 2 new teams with the next 2 titles, but a lot of that depends on team lineups, both theirs and the ones they’ll most likely face in the postseason.

For me the ones that has a high chance of making it in Finals are the following:

Western: OKC, SAS , MIN (lets see what will happen in Giannis sweepstakes)

Eastern: NYK, DET, IND, BOS, 76ers

* note: for me Cavs is just a good regular season team, come playoffs time and it will be a different discussion

It’s a good reset, it’s probably worst if what lbj did continues. Need the young stars to have a fight and compete mentality with other stars for rings instead of joining up to eliminate competition.

Probably about even odds to go another year. The knicks, thunder, celtics, and nuggets should all be contenders to some extent, Lakers and Raptors both have a shot depending on the offseason, Bucks and Warriors both still have an all time great so who knows?

As for new teams, Spurs might be THE favorites for next year, but it’ll depend. Cavs and Timberwolves should be contenders. Rockets will probably be in the mix. And i wouldnt be crazy for any of Philly, Orlando, Charlotte, or Indy to make a leap.

The current CBA makes it really hard. It forced the Celtics to break up their championship team after 1 year, it is about to do the same to OKC to some extent. Spurs have a little while before their 3 straight years of top 5 picks collectively make up 105% of their cap space, but then they’ll have to breal things up too.
