It’s something special to see a city come together for that team.
I truly feel that the Knicks winning this NBA Championship means more to New York City than the Giants winning the Super Bowl, the Yankees winning the World Series, or the Rangers winning the Stanley Cup.
As popular as some teams are… Some sports are just integral to the city over others.
I felt it in Seattle when the Seahawks won the Super Bowl. Some events just elevate a city.

I live upstate, grew up in Saratoga, but I’ve spent plenty of time in the city and I love it there. I spent two weeks living near Central Park while my brother was having life-saving surgery at Mt Sinai (he’s OK now thanks to them) and it was one of the most memorable times of my life. I was beyond stressed out because he was like 50⁄50 to survive the procedures, so I just walked constantly, and there is not a more fascinating place to walk and distract yourself from what’s troubling you than NYC.

MILLIONS of people were celebrating in the streets last night across the vast expanse of NYC. I just checked the crime reports and the NYPD said 63 were arrested in connection with violence at the celebrations. That’s actually really impressively low. Yet there are like 100 videos swirling around social media of the same two vehicles that got vandalized.
And I wonder how many arrests are normally in those areas. The problems are all in midtown. I walked from 120th to 150th last night down FDB and vibes were great.
I don’t have a big clue about how New Yorkers are but I’ve seen people constantly talking how there’s going to be big riots so they were probably just looking for proof of that, only the people who understand the city better were saying New Yorkers love their city too much to do something like that.

Most people don’t have cars, so no car payment, insurance, gas, etc means those costs don’t exist where in 99%+ of the rest of the country that’s not possible
There are a lot of neighborhoods that are more affordable. Finding a $3k studio is pretty easy. It’ll be a small place but one can manage, and it teaches you to live with less
It’s just a different lifestyle to what most are used to in the US
Because that’s in the heart of the city, the four outer boroughs are still exorbitantly expensive, but doable.
Guess youll have to settle for a 4200/month 200ft studio in Back Bay
