[Highlight] Wemby after post game interview “Appreciate y’all. See y’all… never.”
Wtf does this even mean?
He is retiring from basketball to become a monk
Monk training wasn’t good enough. He’s gonna do full Jedi training and just start force choking guys instead of hitting them in the neck and trying to injure them on three point attempts
That still wouldn’t be enough for the league to call a flagrant on him
That’s it, if he chokes out one more shooting guard or imperial lieutenant, he’s getting such a flagrant
But not that one, either. That was more of an aggressive neck hug.
He’s already mastered the choking techniques
Even with the Force, he still can’t get over being posterized from the 3 pt. line.
“Get ready to learn Chinese, buddy” just got a new meaning.
The temple he went to was a scam temple too
What do you mean scam temple?
I think that some of the temples that teach martial arts aren’t actually affiliated with the Shaolin tradition and are kinda for show.
(Like westerners can go and pay to get put through their paces, get up early, meditate, do martial arts, etc. like a summer camp, but it isn’t part of the real spiritual tradition (which would take years and years)).
I’m not sure if that’s one of the ones Wemby went to.
But I mean look at this presser.
Looks like whatever he learned at the temple went right the fuck out the window. Which is exactly what would happen after a summer monk-camp setup.
Sounds about right
It wasn’t a real temple. It was all cardboard boxes and makeup
Why did he have to do that when he could just learn Claude
My interpretation is that he’d never want to be in this particular position (losing the finals) again, and will instead be the winner (despite the winners still showing up for the pressers)
But the way he said it actually makes it backfire lol
Oh yeah that makes sense. I guess it’s a language barrier
Also tbf I’m definitely giving him the benefit of the doubt for him being young and immature, and if his media tours for the series are anything to go off he’s definitely got a little bit of a cornball in him
I mean the dude is clearly a bit of nerd. So it’s not that surprising he’s a cornball.
Smell ya later
Not just immature. Wemby seems to have the French culture ingrained with him because he literally grew up there – direct, sarcastic, provocative which may not translate well to the American audience.
As someone who speaks both of the languages Victor speaks, it’s not a language barrier, he’s just dumb lol.
Man, listening to Wemby talk, if he’s “dumb” then the average NBA player is a brain dead vegetable.
Yes
Do you speak the language or did you grow up in France?
A dude speaking Japanese because he learned it or was there for 3 years is so different from a Japanese born and raised there.
Or that the season is over so he is not gonna see them again
I thought of that too but adding “never” at the end feels more awkward
I thought he just didn’t like these reporters lol.
Who does
Yeah, that probably is his intention. I never would have gotten that without your explanation though
I think he realizes he’ll never be in the finals again?
It sounds like he’s gonna kill himself lmao
He’s just upset. Give the dude a break. He’s a 22 year old kid. He’ll learn and be humbled. Still unbelievably talented
It’s wild the hate he’s getting for losing. I swear these people are such losers
I mean being cocky does that especially when you lose
That said, he’s young af and this is a nonstory
Exactly this. No humility = no break. If you talk shit all the time no one gives a fuck when you lose in sports. We enjoy it
Harper has shown far more poise and maturity as a rookie and has played better and more consistently than anyone on that team. Wemby’s overall mental isnt where you want your cornerstone to be, even at his age.
This is where I am on wemby. Anyone doubting his basketball ability is dumb as hell. But he has the composure of a chihuahua puppy when things get tight. All that yapping and scrapping with dudes a foot shorter than him ain’t doing anyone in SA any favors.
This is nothing compared to the hate LeBron got for losing in the ‘07 Finals at age 22, with a young squad around him and Mike Brown as the coach.
He’s getting hate because he’s been dirty as fuck, arrogant, and coddled by the league
The hate is for him ranting about playing the right way despite being full of shit whiny, dirty, out of shape player with a super limited game who plays entitled and without sportsmanship.
[removed]
He’s a dirty piece of shit player
He’s flying back to his home planet
I have to go now. My planet needs me.
Note: Poochie died on his way back home to his home planet.
He’s salty after aura gambling everything away
No one knows what it means but it’s provocative
It gets the people goin’!
He’s a 22 year old kid mad about losing. It’s not that deep
Shit talkers get no grace, nothing new here
Going back to France to be janitor
Imagine the reach with the mop. Bro could clean a 9ft ceiling without missing a beat
Maybe he can help clean up all the dust from Fox’s bricks.
He will be blinding himself and playing by feel from now on
He’s a child and a sore loser
he’s getting to be corny imo
Getting???
He’s been incredibly corny since he’s entered the league
Let’s beat him with hammers!!!
Getting? He’s been like this all year but it’s been getting glazed over.
This is something my 8 year old would say thinking they just really told me off
Cancun
Wemby in french on the reason they lost in this finals : ‶We don’t lack talent, we don’t lack abilities, we just make too many mistakes. I make too many mistakes.″
Q: To start, congratulations on your season and your team’s season. To go back to the game and this serie, Mitch just mentioned that he didn’t consider your team to be ready to win a championship like the other team. Do you agree with that statement and if so what exactly was missing from this serie?
A: Personally? Obviously we weren’t ready. I wasn’t ready to win a ring. It’s obvious. I think that in terms of will to do well, intensity, effort, we were at a good level. I was at a good level. But it’s experience, it’s those mistakes. We don’t lack talent, we don’t lack abilities, we just make too many mistakes. I make too many mistakes.
Q: After this final what do you want to improve the most on this summer on the court or off the court? What area of improvement have you identified for yourself to get better at next season?
A: I will work even harder to be even more durable and above all, keep my mind fresh. Maintaining control over the game. All the time. That’s what’s striking about Jalen Brunson for example. There were too many instances where, and it doesn’t come with bad intent, too many instances where i’m passive. Too many instances where i don’t have the control i would like to have over the game. And it costs us.
How much more positive to people expect him to be, that is a great answer to both questions
So few people (at least here) don’t bother to read the translation of his French responses, which tend to be to better questions on top of in his native language 🤷🏽♂️
Same shit happens with Luka in slovenian questions and answers. Same with spanish ones.
I don’t understand why people put much stock in these post game interviews at all. It’s a trap for these guys. It’s one of the most crushing moments of their lives. As long as they don’t say something absolutely insane then who cares?
Foreign players give more in-deph answers in their primary language always. But people only clip or see the english ones.
It’s actually an unbelievable answer. Full admission of his inexperience and props to Brunson for his leadership. It’s really hard to dislike him, even as a Knicks fan.
I respect his answers and he seems to be someone genuinely hell bent on getting better but as a Knicks fan, no, it is not hard to dislike this guy.
That’s what make browsing Reddit after this final so frustrating. It was a great series. Spurs couldn’t get it done, sucks for them and us as their fanbase, but it genuinely couldn’t have happened against a better team.
Yet, if you were to have followed this through social media you’d think Wemby said the Knicks were trash and the series was just a badly officiated mess. And that’s just after the opposite happening with Spurs/OKC series too.
For all the hate the NBA viewer pretend to have for narratives, they sure as hell love running to it
Reminds me of how r/soccer treats Mbappé tbh. Dude is mostly level-headed and chill, but his bad moments are magnified.
Just your usual French bashing. Nothing new
Americans expect you to be perfect in English when they also have elementary level of English in general even if its your 2nd or third language. They cannot fathom that even languages are very cultural and people are cultural.
The same sentence such as, “Can you please check my bag?” can already have way different interpretations in many different facets if you say this to a Japanese, American, British, and Filipino. Some cultures would think that this is too direct. Some cultures would have a different connotation on what ‘check’ means.
This. He’s plenty self aware.
Yeah holy shit he gets it now. Once he figures this out he’ll be unstoppable.
Sounds like losing gracefully to me!
100 percent good answer. Liked the maturity.
Respect to you for posting this translation. I have no idea why r/nba decided to casually ignore this to spin up the narrative that Wembanyama is now somehow “worse than Shai”.
Absolutely the answer you want to hear from your superstar.
I think that Wemby deserves a fair amount of criticism for some of his antics on the floor and letting his emotions get the better of him…but I think that’s all very excusable for a 22 year old.
I also think it’s been incredibly unfair to pick apart everything he says in these press conferences. There have been multiple instances where there are clearly some things lost in the translation. If you read French responses, not just from this series but from others, he is much clearer and articulate in what he is trying to say.
Mods removing the previous clip of this that was posted
They can’t handle the truth, dude is made of corn
Ethical corn
Ethical corn that throws intentional elbows when he’s frustrated
Throws much worse elbow. Then when he gets slightly elbowed “I’m in your head!!!” proceeds to blow 30 point lead lol.
Ahem…29
WE RUN ON ETHANOL BABY
Nah cause corn looks the same when it goes in and out but wemby goes in the finals with high hopes and goes out with an L.
He won his championship in Oklahoma City, to the dismay of spurs fans. And them big ole women.
Yall can’t be calling Wemby corny and then write stuff like this lmaooo
The truth is nobody wants to see the full clip where he shouts out Jalen and points out his flaws.
bold to say anything about corn with that flair
Wembys PR team working overtime
What did he say in that clip?
It’s the exact same clip, they just deleted the post for some reason
Why are reddit mods such little Goebbels?
I actually love it. Basketball is more fun when people are chippy. People complain that everyone is so buddy buddy in the league now, well this certainly isn’t buddy buddy.
for real. to them its boring when players dont talk a little trash or play physical. then it becomes a problem when they do start talking and playing more aggressive.
This sub just likes to bitch and moan. I wouldn’t let anything on Reddit impact my thoughts on ball because it doesn’t reflect reality
This sub has the greatest amount of whiners in sports
Great point! It’s fun to see competitiveness and new rivalries forming.
how come when wemby does something almost any other player would be crucified for, it’s for the passion of basketball? genuinely asking, no other player gets this PR
Every player in the league gets killed for stuff. Everyone in this thread is shitting on him in here except for me lol.
Top comments I am reading in this thread are crucifying him, to be completely fair.
You are being fair. Wemby has been getting crucified in almost every thread this series.
People in here just have a victim complex about the legitimacy of their complaining about players.
Cherry picking the one positive comment here to rant on this lol. Reddit hates Wemby now
That alone is why I’m a fan. Most of the guys in the league go docile for that check. Wemby plays dirty, physical, and is unapologetically living in the moment. I’m sure everyone who’s ever been hated as a sports player for certain antics also have another crowd who love them for it.
Imagine if every conversation you had at work was recorded. We all say weird shit lol
U just lost shake hands
You’ll see him sketching in a park or in a museum.
Yeah, he’ll be drawing more fouls
Bang
DOUBLE BANG
TRIPLE BANG
Gottemm
hahaha thats what Vito did
you can go.
This is a nothing burger. People are mad at this?
Not people, redditors.
Absolutely. Redditors who have never been in a competitive environment like this not understanding the emotions running through a person who just lost to a team that, in their eyes, they should have beaten.
Thunder fans
22 year old is upset that he lost the NBA finals. Not sure why people are making such a big deal about this
right i’m confused why is everyone in here crying 😂 reddit is so wack
Analyzing this is so funny to me I genuinely laugh at some of these people
Yeah what lol, bunch of weirdos
all these knicks fans here shitting on a 22 yr old ESL player who just lost in the finals. go enjoy your first championship in 50 years instead lmao
I don’t feel like it’s being talked enough about how wemby has gone on a generational run from being one of the most loved players to one of the most hated 😂
it’s just reddit lol
Nah a lot of sports media have been talking about the play on Brunson and the elbow in the wolves series.
If they had pulled off the win tonight and Wemby still played game 6, I think we would have seen a lot of talk about that dangerous closeout tonight.
Honestly for me it started with the elbow. It made pay attention to how he can have a short fuse. I don’t think I would do better in his position but it starting to feel like a lot of pressure on him is starting to take a toll.
Elbow on Naz. Diving at Shai’s legs. Told Plumlee to injure McCain. Alvarado head lock toss. Brunson head grab shove. Tried to Zaza Brunson tonight.
That’s quite the rap sheet he’s accumulated in a little over a months time
Completely unrelated, but as a Georgian I feel so bad that “Zaza” is a verb now 😭
& it shows in his game. He gets flustered too fast & loses control of his mental. It’s literally why they always start with a high number of being ahead and then suddenly the team comes back. Once they lose the lead, it’s downhill from there fast.
Cautionary tales fans are eating
We have the new NBA heel we needed lol. You can always count on the French eventually becoming unlikable lol.
He’s starting to play a character. It came across as genuine at first but it’s starting to feel fake and intentional now
all this nonchalant aura farming bs he does in interviews, paired with the shaolin monk stuff all felt pretty corny to me early on, but I guess its just his thing, idk. Right now though, its feeling fake, as you said.
I’m getting the exact opposite feeling lol.
That stoic Shaolin monk gimmick from the start of the season was the mask, meanwhile this irritable and emotional manchild is the real him
He’s young and fans appreciate when guys get humbled. The media softened up on LeBron when lost his first title shot with the big 3. I’m sure Wemby will be back in the good graces next year when fans will say “he had to work for it”
Wemby has given people plenty of legitimate reasons to hate him though. Bron in Cleveland was just hated for being great and for no legitimate reason.
But the hate mostly took off when he bailed to Miami. At least if I’m remembering correctly.
He’s acting like a salt factory
take grace in your horrible disappointing losses
I disagree. I want him to be mad and salty. It’s better this way and more entertaining, especially since it’s so early in his career.
It also makes him hold grudge to do better. Look at what he did to Chet.
Exactly what I’m thinking. His grudge against Chet made the unbeatable looking Thunder look beatable. Now I’m just itching to see where he takes this horrible Finals performance in the future.
No emotions in my sport!
Man get out with that, i want to see players get salty
No one cares outside of this sub, go outside bro
Like it’s something new redditors turn from hot to cold on a player in any sport. He’ll win a title at some point and people will come out of the woodworks to say they have always loved him.
As a Knick fan, give the guy some space. He just lost. Not a big deal. Refs on the other hand need to be investigated.
Bro the extender was there and yall overcame it. Thats like an extra win.
They let it go once they knew Wemby had to be suspended Game 6
Stepped away for about 10min during the game. Last thing I saw as I left was Scott Foster leaning into the camera reviewing a call.
When I got back it was still Scott Foster leaning into the camera reviewing a call.
He was extending alright… just not the series length
For what, following league orders?
I was surprised they didn’t eject KAT and OG on tip off to sell more garden 100k tickets.
I think this was an attempt at a joke
Yeah, it’s clearly just him about to say “see you tomorrow” on habit and then realized there’s no media to do for a while so be changed mid sentence.
Yeah this was clearly just an exasperated “Idk man fuck” like I’m a knicks fan and I can easily see/say this was objectively funny and it was purposefully so. I think that’s the most honest humility he’s demonstrated this series tbh everything else is very canned and politician-esque
Went to the Borat school of “not” jokes
Fox is his point guard wouldn’t you be pissed
I mean wemby should be pissed at himself for disappearing in the 4th quarter
He is. That’s exactly what he articulated during the presser
Ah reddit, hero to pitchforks in a matter of a few weeks.
Oh boy. He has a lot of growing up to do. He needs to go to the Steph curry school of PR cause this is not it
His name is Wemby, not Nimby
After this series his name should be Humby
Being a man of nearly 50, and firmly believing males don’t become proper people until their late 20s (often later, often not at all), I’m prepared to give him some slack. I was a fucking idiot when I was 22 too, with far less talent to even temper it with.
But you’re right, he’s got a hell of a lot of growing up to do.
Great point! He is only 22 and just lost in the finals. People are acting like he is a 10 year vet.
Not everyone can be Harper
Boo! I’m sick of PR.
Does he though? Whats really wrong with him being his own person, not everyone has to fit the same mold.
Steph was still still trying not to roll his ankles in year 3. Settle down.
Victim Wembanyama
He’ll be fine. There’s no player in the league that the media gives more of a pass to than Wemby.
People really expecting a 22yo to actually be a monk. His brain is literally still developing. Theres a reason people peak in the late 20s early 30s. It’s insane what Wemby did this year but he still has some growing up to do.
Lmao
Breaking news: French 22 year olds are incredibly annoying
Can remove “22 year olds” from your post
remove “French” and it’s still true.
<get off my lawn>
Rudy tried to warn us
Wemby might been the fastest i ever seen fans turn on a star like it usually takes a season
Well when you keep doing dirty shit even the septic system says nah you on your own.
[deleted]
Why are you all mad? This is competition, this is good! Rivalry, competition, battle, this is Basketball no need for soft buddy-buddy friendship battle.
This is good!
That’s what he said to the monks after using them for PR
“Screw you, mom! I’m going to my room!”
Aura debt
Wu Tang “Knicks in 5” down 27 at HT Game 4 will never be topped. NYC talked their shit trailing.
I don’t think he meant that the way it came across. I think he’s trying to say we won’t see him as a loser in the same moment again. Language barrier lost in translation. Otherwise why would he say he appreciates everyone before hand. It doesn’t even make sense the way it came across.
I love the kid, he’s angry and hurt right now. I wanted my spurs to win, but they weren’t ready this year and I’m kinda happy they are going through this because they gotta learn the hard way. He’ll adjust his attitude as he gets older.
Most of these posts are just pure jealousy.
Imagine how it’s gonna be when the rim sniping gets perfected.
Alright this is funny. GGs Wemby. The guy is 22 and still very raw of an offensive player. If he stays healthy teams better get ready to see this guy until May/June every year
No handshakes and then sound like a sore loser.
Wemby haters are eating good tonight.
Thunder fans feasting rn
Wemby went from face of NBA to draymond in a week
Eh not really dudes on reddit are just weird, when they were playing okc they loved wemby
To be charitable he’s probably saying this because it’s the offseason but it does come off salty
Is he saying he’ll never be giving a press conference after losing the finals again?
Too bad they don’t give out rings for beating Chet Holmgren
Wemby’s heel turn is generational
This is nothing, y’all are weird
A rude Frenchman?
