KAT lost his mom and like 7 relatives to COVID, and he got COVID himself and lost a bunch of weight, but he never gave up, let everyone know that He won’t give up (literally went on twitter telling his niece that he refused to give up, refused to be buried in the casket). Been through all that and finally got the ultimate goal he wanted. Now that’s a tough guy right there.
And the first thing that he mention after winning is thanks his mom. That just show not only the mental toughness of KAT, but also how he felt at all times.

My takeaway of this finals is becoming a fan of KAT. Losing your mom early is an awful thing to go through (I’m the same age and lost my mom 2 years ago) and it really has the potential to ruin you. He honored her in the greatest way possible and inspires me to do my best for my mom
Out of all the guys that’s got a ring, I think I’m the happiest for Kat. He was unfairly maligned throughout his career, and I hope this eradicates those ideas about him not being mentally tough.
