The problem also was that they were all second star guys. OG to Brunson, Siakam to Haliburton, FVV to Sengun, Norman to Kawhi etc.

They all worked when they could play that role with Kawhi but the moment he left and there was nobody to replace him the team fell apart. No wonder it was such a shitshow, I don’t envy Masai for having to deal with it.

He’s such a smart player and has worked so hard. I saw a video of him as a kid about a year ago getting coached hard by his dad and you can really see how hard he has worked his ass off to get to the position he’s in today. Not the most physically gifted person on the court, but he makes up for it in other areas. Plus he just has the killer mentality that you need to win games.

He guaranteed his payday and generational wealth without having to play another year and risk injury/bad play and losing the bag.
By taking a more team friendly deal and allowing the team to improve around him, he has a better chance at winning a chip and securing more outside money in endorsements. He was already raking in endorsement money, and now he will be set to get even more.
By taking the deal then, his next contract will be significantly higher because of the coming expanded salary cap. If he had waited another year to sign the bigger extension, he would have had to wait two more years after the end of his current contract making him older and possibly less valuable.

Knicks fans: OG was great offensively and defensively the whole series and that G4 play will go down in history. Brunson was the leading scorer through all games and carried the team in G5 scoring almost 50% of the team’s points to close the series.
