Would CP be healthy by this point of the season? I know Fox hasn’t been 100% but CP was always banged up in one form or another every of his deep playoff runs.

I don’t think he qualifies for the “choker” level if he was healthy for his playoff runs. Maybe there’s an element where just being bigger/taller (not too tall or big either) lends to being a more durable player come playoff time.

What we can never take away from CP is he is one of the more cerebral players the game has ever seen. And that usually lends to elite career playoff performers. Which for one reason or another has not translated in reality.

I think people forget that he still felt that he was good enough to command a bench role with meaningful minutes. And in San Antonio there just wasn’t a ton of room for him to see the court, especially with the additions of Harper and Bryant. 

Another thing is, no one necessarily foresaw the Spurs being this good this quickly. I’m sure in hindsight CP3 wishes he was still a part of that, but I guarantee he was not interested in being a pseudo coach for what seemed to be a team still on the precipice of even making the postseason.

He would have helped them tremendously. He would not have done those same silly mistakes like Fox did. But the Spurs somewhat deserve this by getting rid of their veteran backup ball handler. They also are not relying upon Harrison Barnes as much as they could.

If CP was throwing in the ball on the last possession of game 4, he would have purposefully tried to throw the ball to the left side of Kat toward the corner and bumped into the fans that were standing too close and taunting him. This would have resulted in a tech and a free throw to tie the game.

I actually said the same thing yesterday to a friend. I believe that he would take well control of the ball and pace and probably would had avoided that collapse.

Yeah, Chris Paul would’ve provided an actual veteran presence for the Spurs to help them make less mistakes in tight moments.

CP3 does have some ghastly chokejobs on his record though. No guarantee he wouldn’t have fallen in with the Spurs’ stupidity in that game.

I say this as a Suns fan who loved the culture he brought to us, but the day he turned 40 he turned into a pumpkin and was just done every post season after that.

That last one, he was standing at the three point line as a decoy because he was too hurt to get a good shot from that far away.

Maybe as a bench guy he’d be more rested, and each season is another chance, he’d finally be productive in a post season. But he never showed the humility to be a bench guy and every year is a year older.

The NBA grind just got to be too much for him to have anything left when playoffs came around.

Spurs could have used a veteran guard the last 2 games. Fox brainfarted on multiple occasions at the end of the game that were costly. The Spurs youth was exposed.

He could have played a few games with the Raptors at least, but decided he was retired now. It’s too bad, but he is 41 now.

I doubt it. First, he would’ve rode the bench for most of this run anyway. Second, he was on the sidelines for those Rockets and Suns runs that ended in disaster anyway. I think CP3 is only really effective if he’s on the court. I don’t think him being there would’ve stopped the Spurs from jacking up 3s the same way Houston did all those years ago.

CP3’s late-game IQ is exactly what this young Spurs team needed. watched some of those possessions fall apart in game 3 and you could feel the lack of a vet floor general out there. shame about the timing, wouldve been something special

I love CP3 and he always raised teams up to a certain level. That said, he was a notorious choker in the playoffs, so not the first the first player that I’d want at this point.
