A 17-year-old teenager suffered a seizure and fell into a coma after being beaten up by San Antonio Spurs fans livestreaming outside Madison Square Garden following Game 4 of the NBA Finals, the NYPD alleges.
The incident unfolded at about 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, on West 35th Street, just two blocks from Madison Square Garden and right after the Knicks defeated the Spurs in a historic comeback, police said in a statement.
In the livestream video, which was reviewed by PEOPLE, a man decked out in Spurs colors is seen shouting “Spurs in 7” within a massive crowd of excited Knicks fans. Someone shouted back “F— the Spurs, suck my d—,” which caused a chain reaction that led the streamer and others to start throwing punches.
The 17-year-old was punched and kicked in the head, a police source tells PEOPLE.
The boy eventually suffered a seizure, then went into a coma, police said. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he is no longer in a coma and was listed in critical but stable condition, per the source.
The streamer and others allegedly involved are wanted by the NYPD for gang assault but have not been caught, per police
