Karl-Anthony Towns was asked where he thinks OG Anunoby’s tip-in will rank among the best New York sports moments of all-time: “The right hand of God. Can’t spell God without OG”
I’m sorry KAT, “The Hand of God” is already a trademarked play
I prefer to call it “The Hand of OG”
The hand of D OG
The HOG
the Hand of Dawg
just call it the paw
He could’ve capitalized. Should’ve been you!!
The Handunoby
The most iconic play in soccer being the first thing you’re told is not allowed in soccer is the most insane shit ever
Imagine if the most iconic play in basketball history involved a blatant double dribble
The most iconic play happened in that game, but it wasn’t the Hand of God, it was the Goal of the Century, where Maradona dribbled past half a team
hand of god was not the most iconic goal of that game let alone all time
I mean the most iconic play in basketball is a push off. Chicago with the lead
At least The Last Shot is in a gray area and, let’s be honest, it would have been lame as fuck to call a push off there
The Hand of God just objectively should not have counted. There’s no gray area there.
Honestly wasn’t even really a push off. If you watch the replay, Jordan’s hand is on him but never looks like a push. It just sort of falls. Russell falls because of the move. He had all his momentum going one way (even his body was turned), and Jordan crossed back. Russell slid on his own. It would have been one of the weakest calls ever.
I mean Thierry Henry knocked out Ireland with a blatant Handball lol
Thes things happen are all timers. For better or worse. Better if you’re Argentinian or French obviously lol
Harden’s iconic 3 in response to the most blatant missed out of bounds call of all time comes to mind
It’s not the most iconic play lol
I still think it was a push off.
Pure brainrot to say that this is the most iconic play in football, not even close and remembered most because of who did it and the context of the game
And also because it’s conceptually funny as fuck lol
Right? The downvotes show me that none of these cats actually watch the game, just a TikTok compilation of “top 10 iconic soccer moments”
Right hand of god, Maradona used his left.
Hand of god is but right hand isn’t
It can be The Hand of Dog.
“Tip of God.”
Just to see how it feels
Ambidextrous I see
He would’ve needed to be specific anyway. Koufax already got the nickname “The Left Hand of God.”
Kat is an elite glazer and I love it
Every press conference he talks about teammates like they’re the best thing on earth
Used to be considered a good thing but these days showing any emotion or passion or anything other than detached snarky irony is cringe now I guess
We must reject this everywhere we can.
I agree it is cool to care
I think KAT is a good litmus test of fandom
This dude has grinded his way through the loss of his mom and came out still as chill, happy, and a good baller
He used to stream while he was in Minni and he seem chill af then too
People who hate on him just got nothing else goin’ on can discard their opinions on everything else outright
Its fair to hate on him as a twolves fan because we didn’t get KAT 2.0. Would’ve been nice to cash in on a locked in, realty checked from being traded, and playing for the soul of his dead mother version of KAT but people grow at their own pace I suppose.
Too much rampaging man
Like sheeesh you mention a dudes dead moms soul once 😂 Troll comment, always been a big fan love the guy
There’s a difference between showing emotion like Kat versus acting like winning a wfc is the same as the finals
What’s crazy is his deflection on the final play literally saved the game, and I don’t think I’ve heard him talk about it once or even looked for any credit. And he’s truly not even the least bit salty about it.
it pisses me off that KAT is on NY. Can’t hate the dude.
Lol because he cheated a little bit he asked the court side fans to crowd the inbounds play.
I love elite glazer, but when you listen to him talk he sounds like a really good person.
And I know that doesn’t sound like a lot but it’s my highest praise.
Do the right thing not for clicks, clout, etc. but because it’s the right thing to do.
Now I dont know much behind what I see but even if he’s an asshole behind close doors in public he knows to show himself in a way that parents can get behind.
In a random press conference one of his last years in MN KAT called out how cool it was that the St. Paul City council or something like that was made up of all women. Told me everything I need to know about the guy to even know that in the first place. He’s the best.
The anti-Butler. I love it
KAT’s really going all in with this
Kinda dark but I saw someone in the first half of game 4 say if KAT saw his mom in games 1 and 2 who did he see in game 4…and then they came back and won lol
he saw OG
i saw a tiktok edit that went viral with that caption
i ain’t never think KAT would be seeing it 😭
Can’t spell DOG without OG and he got it in him
You can’t spell GOG, without OG, and they don’t sell games with DRM
Can’t spell HOG without OG and he GOT ONE
CRANKING MINE RIGHT NOW
Can’t spell FROG without OG and he BE HOPPIN
Can’t spell MOG without OG and he be MOGGIN
You saying OG eats dog meat?
So should the play be called the hand of dog?
That’s honestly a dope line
It’s from Mac Miller’s (who KAT is a Stan of) “100 Grandkids”
‘But what’s a God without a little OD? (Just a G)’
That’s a reach. Wow. And I’m a huge Mac Miller fan.
100% lol
Foreshadowing bar from Mac
I swear some of you Mac fans are so corny 😭
I thought it was a reference to a Daily Show segment called Sports Wars where they said the same thing.
https://youtu.be/g7J7B7AcSdU?is=k9EaVEedrhq6A0Gj
Idk if they’re linked or who said it first and all that but Thinking Basketball said the same line in his last video
A bit blasphemous but I’ll allow it
I’ve loved all the quotes coming from the Knicks on this run. The lamppost quote form Hart, this one by KAT.
you also cant spell dog without god. so og is a dog god. HUMAMAMAM
You also can’t spell frog without fro, which has to explain something
dog god my beloved
I love OG, but his demeanor makes you wonder if he really gets how big that play will be for people deep in the NY basketball culture. He’s a smart cookie though.. Probably gets it.
He’s so locked in he doesn’t care and that’s a good thing
So many children born in NYC are about to be named Ogugua
In about 18-19 years, a bunch of short Jewish boys from Park Slope will have to explain to their college classmates why their first name sounds Nigerian.
It’s not cultural appropriation when the Knicks are my culture
New Yorkers aren’t Knicks fans. They’re Knicks.
I genuinely think he’s just mad British at heart.
when the raps interviewed him for the draft he gave one-word responses, and his hs coach made everyone stay at practice until OG said something. he’s incredibly intelligent, just doesnt say much. often the mark of an actually smart person
Read an old article about him the other day that it was also just how he was raised. His dad was quoted in the article that you shouldnt talk unless you have something meaningful to say.
Just how he is, after the 0.5 second buzzer beating three in the bubble he just turned and started walking back to the Raptors bench, no expression whatsoever.
Based on past interviews, this is just him lol. He might smile if he wins FMVP.
hes just our favorite stoic
He’s the type that probably bowls a perfect game and is just like “that was pretty cool. i was excited.”
I miss KAT glazing the Wolves. He still does, but he used to, too.
Preach pastor!
the hand of og
that moment is forgotten if they blow this, so they need to focus up and win to preserve it
ORHOG Anunoby
I remember when the “Hand of God” meant smacking ninjas.
Bigger play than the helmet catch in NYC sports history?
Thats going to be the debate all summer, assuming the Knicks finish the job. I am still leaning towards the helmet catch being bigger.
It didnt end some huge championship drought, but beating the undefeated Pats with a true circus catch is pretty insane.
Undefeated pats. And obviously the Super Bowl was 1 and done. I think the fact that OG’s gave them a 3-1 lead instead of tying it or ending it makes the stakes lower than the helmet catch. It’s also just a routine tip in. The dude got UP but tip ins happen a lot. Helmet catches don’t happen
Particularly helmet catches on third down, on a dart of a throw from a QB not known for his mobility escaping what should’ve been a possibly game sealing sack with a minute odd to go in the 4th quarter?
It doesn’t take away from the importance of OG’s tip in, the helmet catch is just that much further ahead.
^^^^fuck ^^^^you ^^^^Eli
Helmet catch still #1 especially since it was against the undefeated Pats. Super Bowl is also just one single game so individual plays naturally carry more weight.
This
Have the rules of spelling changed all of a sudden? Truly the work of God. Or Ogd, I guess.
Tatum move over we have a new corny face of the league
Bro is def undercover on this subreddit xD
Hand of god belongs to Maradona sorry no dice.
If they win this series OG better get a 10 minute ovation at the ring ceremony. Delay the game for the ovation.
The right hand of God
OG ‘Bengi’ Anunoby
Are you here Kat?
So….like first??
I swear to ogd!!!
Og is clearly the Finals MVP if they win
Not sure if there’s a name that would be too hyperbolic tbh
I can tell KAT watches the Daily Show or at least the Sports Wars segments. https://youtu.be/g7J7B7AcSdU?is=k9EaVEedrhq6A0Gj
Fox and the Hound
I saw somebody call it The Tip of Manhattan, which I thought was pretty cool
L TO THE OG.
The Hand of OG
Right hand of god goes hard
Crazy thing is, if that tip hadn’t gone in, Towns was already in position and beggining to leap, he probably gets it in if OG’s top wasn’t do perfectly placed.
Corny AF
You can’t spell God without OG is a banger ngl
Accidental Mac miller reference???
Bars
I ran several calculations, numerous simulations, have had no less than 6 dozen super computers expressing countless equations to try and prove this.
It’s accurate.
Good job by KAT
Doing that off the dome
Is no one gonna talk about that backcourt??
Both feet and the ball need to cross the half court line. Ball never crossed half court. They talked about it during the game.
💡! I was watching in Japan, with the Japanese broadcast, i’ve been looking for this for days! 🙏
it’ll be funny when the spurs force a game 7
