10 years ago today, with the Warriors leading the finals 3-1 Klay Thompson suggests that LeBron ‘just got his feelings hurt.’
people clowned lebron for this at the time. what a crazy response from him being down 3-1 and somehow walking them down in the next 3 games
Klay Thompson doesn’t get enough credit for being a complete douche. Cheated on multiple girlfriends, this comment and then walking off the court without shaking hands after game 7, calling the Bucks snapping their 26 game win streak their Super Bowl etc.
Just an unpleasant guy
Klay does a bunch of stuff like remember when he kept throwing up the 4 rings and getting clowned for it? He’s not out there enough for people to really care tbh
Yeah, he was painted as a loveable goofball but the dude is a fucking douche bag.
Yeah man he loves weed and chocolate milk and signed a toaster. Quirky king
And being on his boat. For some reason Klay boat pics were hot shit during that Warriors run.
Pretty much all “lovable goofballs” in sports tend to be douchebags.
case in point: shaq
Look, Klay has done some douchey things (and he was still pretty young when all this went down) but let’s not compare Klay’s douchery with Shaq.
Shaq is on a different level of dickhead. Shitting (literally) on your teammates stuff is some psycho bully shit.
Jared McCain would never.
Helps when Draymond is on your team. Makes you look like a saint.
Good player who won a lot of basketball games, smoked weed and rode a boat.
Now he just smokes weed and occasionally rides a boat?
He did say this about that.
What a nice reflection by Klay. Just fully admiting he got in his feelings and reacted poorly.
Devin Booker put out a Twitter post after that podcast that made it seem like he was more mad at Paul George for trying to shit stir then he was at Klay
Something like “did u get the sound bite u was looking for?”
I’m all for recognizing where you went wrong, props to him
Great player, but always been pretty arrogant.
I love that he went to the Mavs to keep competing without GSW and they immediately imploded lol
And if he had stayed home and GS gets a little better health luck they are actually making some noise in the playoffs
Bro was dropping some insane stat lines during crucial games before he got traded. Like some 0 pts, 1 ast, 1rb in 28 mins played
Yeah, people either didn’t watch his last year with GSW. It was tough system for him to be able to continually operate in at his current level. The style of player was just too much for him at that point in his career.
It was good that he left. And I think GSW didn’t want him back lowkey
His last game as a Warrior when they got knocked out of play-ins by Kings (who they had beat in 7 games first round the year before):
0/4/0 0/10 FG in 31min lol
It was wild to me that Klay legitimately thought he should have been Top 75 in NBA History.
He’s one of the best shooters of all time, played great basketball on the way to winning multiple championships, definite Hall of Famer. But he’s only made 3rd Team all NBA twice his entire career, and has never received an MVP vote. By that metric you could argue he was only regarded as one of the top 15 players in the leagues twice in his career.
Klay left because he got his feelings hurt when GSW didn’t want him playing 38 mins/night anymore
He and Kyrie sleeping in the beds they made 😈
spoiled rich kid douche who was also immensely talented. now hes just a spoiled rich kid douche
Another thing that’s just so crazy about LeBron, really did start at the bottom
Counting rings on the bench as well
He recently cheated on Meg. Bro is a habitual bag fumbler.
After she got Bone Thugs, his favorite group, to perform for his birthday party. He never deserved her.
I’ve been a proud hater since he was at Wazzu. Probably what all that alcohol in his youth did to him. But it’s a required class to take, guess I can’t blame him.
Glad people finally see it, dude has always been a cockhead.
Worst of all Golden State as a whole perpetuated this “holier- than-thou douchebag” attitude.
Klay has always been an insecure dude. Its a shame him and Draymond got 4 rings.
I honestly do not think this comment was in the list of all the things that are listed above. Yes, it came back to bite him in the ass because this was Lebron’s “it became personal with me” Michael Jordan moment but the comment itself was nothing to gnaw at. Lebron used this to gain a competitive edge and it would probably be an innocous forgotten statement, if the reporter hadn’t brought it up. it was arrogant, sure but hardly douchey.
it was notable mostly for the fact the person who made the comment is the one who got/gets his feelings hurt quite often.
He’s an underrated front runner
Rich kid behavior.
Someone SMALLER took his throne and made him DANCE for his amusement!
Jesus, that was a Reddit comment right?
Only a Redditor could cook up cringe like that
In that moment, he was euphoric.
In that moment he was upvoted and people were agreeing lol
Not because of any phony god’s blessing.
Yes lol
It’s a legendary comment.
this is the original
damn and this dude is still on here with the same account, i almost have to respect that
Ayy /u/aprimmer243 is still active on reddit too, what’s up buddy? No shame in making dumb comments years ago.
Dude was probably a kid back then.
he got to witness when lebron became the goat at least
Lmfao. I wish. I was 24.
Glad people still laugh at it though.
whats worse, that or the Klay Thompson chocolate milk comment?
I saw it first in the wild a gaming forum thread about the nba finals thst no longer exists before knowing it was a reddit comment first
Dude was copy pasting it away from reddit too lol
A classic
they were so many poorly aged social media comments from that finals series. like when people said lebron isnt gonna drop 41 on draymond after game 5 and he dropped exactly 41 right on his head in game 6
I’ve watched all of the Warriors Finals games multiple times, but I always avoided re-watching these years. I recently watched it, and it’s unreal how LeBron puts his team on his back and carries them to a championship. Historic performance.
That whole ‘15-‘18 LeBron era was really unbelievable basketball. I still think LeBron in game 1 of the 2018 finals is the best individual game I’ve seen anyone play.
I do kind of always wonder what it would have looked like if the 2019 Raptors had to play some version of the LeBron Cavs to get to the finals.
Like even if they might have been the better team. There were guys on that roster who were HAUNTED by the very idea of LeBron.
Goat 🐐
It’s the macro version of Wemby telling Mitch Rob he’s in his head right before falling off a cliff lol
Something something dance for his entertainment
What Klay say
His little chuckle. You could play me a millisecond of that and I’d know what it was
Bron chuckled for a second and took it personally.
Him having his eyes looking down thinking to to himself “I know I must’ve misheard that” is so good
Lmao every time I say this on here somebody responds earnestly just like bro did to you
Probably called him a bitch based off Lebrons other reactions to that word. Edit: Draymond was the one trash talking in the game but the reporter asked Klay about it Edit 2: Woosh
Lol.
No man the previous post is what LeBron asked during the press conference when LeBron was asked to respond to klays comments.
Woosh. But you probably a bot
Bro, it’s even worse because that part is fucking included in the video that people are replying to is nobody talking about this actually watching the video that they talk about what the fuck? The internet is so washed for discussion of any sort.
People always talk about Klay and Lebron. Not Enough credit going to that reporter for stirring the pot
Bill Livingston. He passed in January. Considering how he phrased the question, he knew exactly what he was doing. Guy put in 34 years on the Cleveland sports beat for the Plain Dealer. Damn good writer and reporter.
I’m always fascinated by people like you who can follow a journalist’s career and I mean that in the best way. I usually skip the writer.
Loss of local media/papers and everything getting nationalized into the 24 hour news cycle is a heavily underrated part of the collapse of American society.
So true. Just rewatched “Spotlight” the other night and it’s fascinating seeing how reporting has changed and that was even in 2000-2001 so it had already changed a lot by then already
And the thing that sucks is there are people who are passionate and ethical and want to do that old style of journalism, but there’s no money in it. No funding. So if they want to get paid to write they have to fall in line with new online media standards. Or work for free on top of a job to pay the bills and hope your indie paper or blog takes off. Or hope you win the lottery so you can fund it. Or be one of the lucky few who manages to break through.
Nah fr. Enshitification has hit all industries.
I think about this and how fragmented everything is nowadays. No monoculture, which is fine I guess but there’s so much going on all the time now it feels like my head is spinning. For example, with music releases. If you’re not a fan of the person already, it’s harder for everybody to know about a release coming. People also don’t check for new releases as much as they used to. We can get very insulated in our little unique knowledge bubbles
Recognized him from his byline photo. Details are from his obit. But I used to read him all the time.
It was a lot easier before the internet exploded. There used to only be a couple of reporters covering your team.
And for Lakers fans, two of them were TJ Simers and Bill Plaschke. LA media fucking sucks lol
Awesome to see the behind the scenes people get shoutouts, had never heard of him before RIP to him
Loved him as the Cavs beat reporter when I was in high school. Reading the paper in study hall.
I hadn’t heard that he passed. Thanks for the update. One of the best ever.
Rest in Peace to a Legend
Elite aura lob to bron if he pulled it off, and he did
Bro literally made himself a part of NBA lore. Through sheer craft. Love it.
I believe the transcript will support that
10 years? Fuck
Pretty much everything is a blur post Covid
Still feels like it’s 2021 or some shit.
feels like everyone around me just went on with their life meanwhile I’m here still recovering from yesterday’s events, and by yesterday, I mean 2019.
It’s all that weed you smoke now
Nope smoked weed before that too
Exactly people blaming everything under the sun. I think we all agree time feels different after 2020, we just can’t explain why
so many people just blaming “post covid” when it’s just adulthood, the years start just churning by
Bron saying “I’ve been taking the high road for 13 years” and I’m just like damn, it’s been almost as long since he came into the league to 2016 as 2016 is to now
Surely this fuckery can’t go on much longer
Klay looked like a fucking baby then
A baby you wanna punch in the face.
Why does Klay talk like a high schooler trying to sound cool
That’s who he is lol
Unfortunate because that’s really off putting and sounds contrived
Tough for normal people to mature in their 20s but a superstar millionaire athlete that’s had sunshine blown up their ass their whole life has no shot.
Not to mention the NBA dad
Quite shallow and pedantic, I agree
He insists upon himself. 😤
indubitably
I agree, shallow and pedantic
Rich kid who grew up with rich parents in a loving household always gotta prove that he’s “tough” lol
That’s my read too. Sounds like some kid named Kevin from white suburbia trying to talk like his favorite rapper.
So Chet Holmgren?
This guy’s a gangster? His real name is Klayrence! And Klayrence lives at home with both parents And Klayrence parents have a real good marriage This guy don’t wanna battle, he’s shook cuz ain’t no such things as halfway crooks!
Talks like a 2k my player in a cutscene
Warriors’ PR team did such a good job making this guy seem quirky and lovable
Because he’s a nepo-baby poser with the mentality of a high schooler.
This is the year our timeline diverged. Harambee, Cubs, and Cavs
You didn’t even mention the craziest one: Leicester
It was also an election year 😭
A ROUGH one too..
Mention it? I can’t even pronounce it
Lester
that being in 2016 is unfathomable
All time aura gamble that did not pan out
What gamble, this is frontrunning
At the time it was thought to be impossible
He risked NOTHING! ……. And the gods don’t favor a fraud
Until the final buzzer, it was still thought to be impossible. That moment is frozen in time for me.
That might be the moment for Klay but the defining aura overstep of the series for me was that reddit comment about Steph taking LeBron’s crown and throne and “making [him] dance for his amusement.”
People literally clowned warriors fans for years with that one (rightfully so) even as they were winning more chips lol.
Warriors fans were so obnoxious during that run
As a Warriors fan (for many years, even the bad ones) the most satisfying title for me was 2022.
Post Durant, post injuries, Steph basically showed the world he’ll just do it himself. Years after the dynasty ended too. That was his legacy series.
That’s the only one people really respect them for too. 2015 they only won because of injuries and 2017-2019 were KD years
2022 was truly special
They didn’t only win in 2015 because of injuries. Stop it. It definitely helped, but that warriors team won 67 games. They were extremely good.
They were but the cavs were better and absolutely would’ve won if healthy
They were even up 2-1 without Kyrie and love, including the game 1 loss where Kyrie got hurt
I think we can all agree that was the most impressive chip the Warriors got. They deserved it in 2015 too but we were robbed of a proper finals cause of injuries.
Now they are MIA since Warriors suck again.
Lets be honest 99% of Warrior “fans” were just Curry stans.
Uno Reverse Aura
Lebron wearing the Undertaker shirt was such a nice touch. Some solid foreshadowing right there.
I loved the photo of him wearing the Ultimate Warrior Shirt and hoisting the trophy coming off the plane. All time troll.
Didn’t he have a very funny and petty Halloween that fall as well?
LeMartin Scorsese
And after that when poor Undertaker was waiting for him in full getup and never got to meet him lol
The whole clip was actually worse than the quote. So arrogant and cocky.
Truly was a generational hate watch from there.
Definitely, just the way Klay was talking was so damn cocky.
I wish KD didnt go there. Cavs/GSW was spinning up to be an all time rivalry
Truly, we were robbed. Should have been 2-3 more years of epic battles, with the Warriors adding some more reasonable weapons rather than acquiring a tactical nuke
Iirc they most likely would’ve just re-signed Harrison Barnes
That would keep it fair, Barnes was so ass in that series
Honestly not sure if they win another one if that happened. It’d end up being Cavs, Rockets, Raptors.
Klay has always been like this, but his “chill guy who likes weed and the beach” PR covered it up.
There’s another reason I dislike him , but I can’t quite recall it for some reason.
Sore loser? Cheats on his gf?
That thin ass pencil goatee he used to rock.
I just remember seeing that shot with lebron having glasses on and the stat line for teams being down 3-1 in the Finals and I said to myself, If there’s probably one player who could, it’d be Lebron, and the mofo does it.
That photo is etched in my memory. It’s the first thing I think about when I remember the series.
We’re just gonna try and be humble until this thing is over. My heart can’t take the stress
Lol. Too late someone threw an egg at Wemby
The players, man.
Wmby’s going to use that egg as a fuel.
He offered him an egg in this trying time.
Wemby gotta go parabolic for 3 games straight for 48 mins. Cause we all know a lead isn’t safe against the Knicks. He’s not conditioned for that, he was gassed and missed his free throws after 39 mins of play.
Cavs fans were throwing batteries at you guys when Lebron went back then he gifted them the greatest moment in NBA history.
Cav fans were setting LeBron jerseys on fire, what a time to be alive lol
frankly thats damn polite compared to what other fans have done
“It’s a man’s league” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
It gave us the best hype video ever made, in my opinion:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctav7o_us0U
Mos definitely! This should won an Emmy.
Klay might have an iq of 81
Pisses off LeBron into walking down a 3-1 deficit, fumbles Megan Thee Stallion…yeah, not the sharpest shooter.
Megan alone man, dude is a fucking moron
I know there’s that stupid line “For every hot woman out there, there’s a man tired of her”, but I reject that premise on the basis that he’s an idiot.
Keeping his IQ low out of respect for Bam. What a good guy
Nah his iq is 82 out of respect for bam
“It’s so hard to take the high road but I continue to do it” is generational
Lebron being probably the greatest athlete to ever play the game while also not solely relying on his athleticism, reinventing his play style multiple times throughout his career, and having on all time off the court persona is just an insane combo.
I never ever ever ever ever watched this clip as a warriors fan because it was about klay poking the bear and the lost was too painful. Fast forward to today and the warriors are already in shambles so I watch this clip finally. Holy shit LeBrons reaction is confident. What strikes me is how young he looks here (klay too)
Klay’s body language feels like someone puffing his chest out. Not gonna go so far to say fake tough guy (though I’m sure others in the comments might say so), but it feels like he’s reading a script in his mind, this is how tough guys respond. Bron’s reaction on the otherhand feels natural, you can sense his genuine initial bewilderment that Klay would say that and his response was the type from a real confident dude just shaking his head thinking, “Okay bro. Okay. We’ll see.”
And then they had to sign kd because they got thier feelings hurt
Gave bron the energy to pimpslap them for 3 games straight
Bron gave them straight belt for the rest of the series.
First and only player in history to lead both teams in all 5 major statistical categories for the series
Belt to ass and then no milk before bed either
Not to mention the first & (currently) only player to ever come back from a 3-1 deficit in the Finals. Bro is an anomaly.
This series was absolute cinema
Greatest series and Game 7 and moment of any season of basketball I’ve ever watched, college or NBA
Literally shit that you’d roll your eyes at in a movie. People have somewhat normalized what LeBron did here. It was not normal in any way.
Lebron saying it’s his 13th season in the league here. Time flies man
We owe Klay and Barnes a lot for that 2016 championship.
shawn livingston needed more help
Steve Kerr’s substitution patterns too
Festus Ezili was out there in 4th quarters of a Finals series
10 years later: wemby gets his by an egg on his way into a hotel.
Dicks out for Harambe
It didn’t actually hit him. It hit the pole.
Depending on the finals result, it will be that or Wemby’s “im in your head” moment that turned the series.
The second the journalist repeated Klay’s statement to Bron - Klay in the other room started questioning who was playing the faint boss music
Respect to the Knicks fans who on they “Jobs not done” type shit
My team being so ass has me watching way less basketball, but my god, this was the most entertaining non philly sports event I’ve ever watched. Absolute masterclass from the goat.
as a kings fan i always tell people 2016 was the closest i’ve gotten to a championship win
Holy aura assist from that reporter
Whoever does LeBron’s doc better do it right. A generational career filled with fairytale moments…you literally can’t make it up.
One of the greatest moments in NBA history
Next three games for LeBron
41/16/7, 3 steals 3 blocks
41/8/11, 4 steals 3 blocks
27/11/11, 2 steals, 3 blocks
The absolute peak of the #1 or #2 of all time. Maybe you can find stretches where he exploded for more points, but the fact that he played 3 complete games, dominating in every possible phase, that’s what LeBron is and should be remembered for.
Goat shit.
“And I took that personally “🤷🏾♂️
Never liked Klay and never really understood why people do outside of warriors fans. Always seemed like a douche, on and off the court.
I’m fucking old
I still cringe when I see this clip
This is LeBron’s “and I took that personally” moment.
In case you still wonder how Klay could’ve fumbled Megan.
LeBron, Kyrie, you two did a service in beating his ass (& the rest of the Warriors’, too) on that hard-wood floor.
Greatest to do it.
